Frederic Chopin’s Nocturne is a fabulous example of the genre mysterious and melancholic. It has been expertly and effectively arranged for Viola with Piano Accompaniment by Alan H. Arnold and edited by William Lincer. The rounded sound of the Viola is perfect for the late evening and evoking dusk and nightfall.The solo viola part is also included on a separate insert.

Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. Les musiques de Nuit instrumentales du XVIIIe siècle, destinées à être jouées en plein air, sont à l'origine du Nocturne. Mozart et Haydn ont composé des 'Notturni' pour divers ensembles. Cependant, John Field est considéré comme le créateur du Nocturne pour piano. Chopin le tenait en grande estime et faisait souvent travailler à ses élèves les Nocturnes de ce pianiste et compositeur irlandais au même titre que les siens pour qu'ils se familiarisent avec le 'legato' et qu'ils acquièrent un beau son. Frédéric Chopin compose 21 Nocturnes. L'année de composition de chaque Nocturne ne peut pas toujours être certifiée avec précision mais celle de leur publication est une référence exacte. Trois Nocturnes ont été édités après sa mort. Chopin a l'âme romantique et la musique de ses Nocturnes en exprime les états. L'ambiance crépusculaire est en effet propice aux tendres épanchements, à la mélancolie, aux improvisations poétiques et musicales, comme le dialogue de la Muse et du Poète dans la Nuit de Mai d'Alfred de Musset. Tout en conservant une forme classique (forme Lied A.B.A. généralement), Chopin s'éloigne de la romance et sublimise le Nocturne par son inspiration et son sens pianistique: la mélodie, influencée par le 'bel canto' italien est plus ample et se développe en variations ornementales expressives, souvent chromatiques - l'harmonie est plus raffinée et plus audacieuse par ses dissonances et les dessins d'accompagnement de la basse en forme d'arpèges ou d'accords brisés sont plus ingénieux. Les Nocturnes de Chopin ont beaucoup contribué à sa célébrité et, malgré les difficultés techniques de certains, ils apparaissent comme une bonne introduction à la connaissance et à l'étude de ses autres oeuvres. Frederic Chopin was one of the most original and influential composers in history. Although he only lived 39 years he wrote music that has thoroughly embedded itself in our culture. His melodies are often instantly familiar to us and show a profound lyric sense. Many qualities of Chopin's music are ideal for guitar transcription. He wrote pieces that are short with a manageable range. The textures are mostly single melody lines with harmonic accompaniment without the complex counterpoint that can be so difficult on the guitar. His music is often soft intimate subtle and full of naunces of articulation dynamics and phrasing. These qualities transfer quite naturally to the guitar. While remaining as faithful as possible to the composer's musical intentions these pieces experienced some modification that is noted in the provided performance notes. Intermediate in difficulty this book assumes the player has basic knowledge of the guitar and familiarity with either standard music notation or guitar tablature.
