Continuing in the tradition of previous publications in the Classics series: Classic Solos and Classic Duets, Mary Karen Clardy has selected 24 of the most significant standard études from Carl Joachim Andersen's op. 21, 30, 33, 37 and 41, Antoine Benoit Tranquille Berbiguier's Studies and Ernesto Köhler's Romantic Études op. 66. Performance notes, composers' biographies and a glossary of terms are included providing helpful historical background to the pieces. An optional second flute part has been composed for each étude providing opportunities for the teacher or another player to support and reinforce phrasing, rhythm, tone quality, intonation and style. These parts may be downloaded for free from our website. Including the Transcendental Etudes Ed. Busoni-Liszt's reputation as perhaps the greatest pianist of all time is powerfully supported by his dazzling body of work for solo piano. The undiminished popularity of his etudes with pianists and audiences alike have made them among the most performed and recorded works for solo piano in the Romantic reportoire. The first volume Series 1 include many of Liszt's most inspired piano works and are edited by the great pianist composer and musical scholar Ferruccio Busoni for the Franz Liszt Society and published by Breitkopf and Hartel in Leipzig in 1910-11. Each set of Etudes is a highly successful work in its own terms and are all fiendishly difficult. The separate ' Mazeppa' isyet another working of one of the etudes from these sets. Par FINE ELAINE. The etudes in this book offer students a musically and intellectually satisfying means of practicing scales in all major and minor keys, even while remaining in first position. Although presented in the traditional order of the circle of fifths, this is where similarities to other violin scale-oriented books end.Of course, the etudes can be played using a mixture of positions by more advanced students. The studies also resonate very well on the viola if played at pitch. These are instructive etudes and can be played as appealing solo pieces. The stepwise motion in the etudes makes intervals between pitches easy to hear, even in keys with many flats or sharps.Both the book and etude titles refer to names of animals that have scales, so you will see natural and harmonic minor scales named after various moths, and major scales named for unusual reptiles, birds, and mammals throughout.
