The Flute trios which Joseph Haydn composed in London in 1794 are spirited pieces similar to divertimenti. They first became known thanks to Leo Balet's carefully prepared edition of 1933. These trios which are of moderate difficulty and let both Flutes partake in the musical activity to an equal extent have won a permanent place in Flute teaching as well as in home music making.

Dass ihr kompositorisches Denken nicht von bildhaften sondern vielmehr von rein musikalischen Anregungen bestimmt wird verraten die Bezeichnungen 'Toccata' 'Refrains' 'Variations' und 'Epilogue'. Alle vier Sätze sind zusammen nicht länger als 10 Minuten schon 1969 der Entstehungszeit des Divertimento strebte die Komponistin nach äußerster Präzision Verknappung und Verdichtung die für ihr ganzes weiteres Werk prägend sein sollten. Das Divertimento wurde 1975 erstmals vom Parnassus Ensemble am Graduate Center der City University New York aufgeführt.

Folk Suite for Double Wind Quintet. Par CESARINI FRANCO. Divertimento Op. 4 fait référence au genre musical classique pour instruments à vent. Suite Siciliana is a true tribute to this beautiful island, a piece composed by seven dances in the musical form typical of the baroque period. Divertimento, an early work of Franco Cesarini, illustrates the composer's love of popular song. A piece characterised by skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form. Le Cortège du Roi Renaud is a suite in five parts based on tales that originate in southern European folk songs dating back as far as the 16th century. Pastorale de Provence, a suite in four movements, was written by Franco Cesarini in memory of the great Provençal composer Darius Milhaud. As the title says, Greek Folk Dances is entirely in the sign of Greek dances starting with a kalamatianos, followed by a zeibekiko. The piece ends with a hasapiko.
