This jazz original takes a signature lick of Dexter Gordon's and works it into prominence within two contrasting movements. The first movement is lyrical and subtle, with a steady, patterned accompaniment created to facilitate ballad-tempo solos (written or improvised). The second movement uses offbeat rhythms to displace the beat. Titles: Blue * Boppin'.

Franco Ambrosetti (born 1941 in Lugano, Switzerland) successfully managed two lives for a long time: on the one hand as a world class jazz trumpeter, on the other hand as manager of an international company with two offices in Switzerland and Italy and 600 employees having taken over from his father. His musical career is related to celebrities like Kenny Clarke, Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, Phil Woods, Michael Brecker, Steve Coleman, John Scofield, Greg Osby, Geri Allen, Kenny Barron and many others. Ambrosetti has played in many venues around the world. In his autobiography, he takes the reader to these places, plus his encounters with many colourful figures of the jazz world. At the same time, he recounts how he managed to master the balancing act of his life in a charming and modest tone. The result is a fascinating walk through jazz history - with some serious side views to the world of business and its changing ethics. The autobiography is introduced by Jess Levenson and Roland Spiegel and contains a discography (2019). Translated from the Italian by Flavia Ambrosetti and Paul Kilbey. The table of contents is available as PDF.

This five-part suite stands for lifestyle, fun, and emotion, and incorporates blues, jazz, gospel, and soul. The compositions encourage both ensemble and solo playing since every part presents one of the musicians of the quintet as a soloist. The solos are written in the style of famous saxophonists (Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, Dave Sanborn) and can be used by the individual musicians as a basis to create their own improvisations. For advanced students, but also for students at music colleges and professional musicians who wish to enrich their repertory with groovy and gripping jazz tunes. The free improvisation parts are suitable for every level of difficulty. Titles: I. Count Peanuts * II. West Side Blue * III. Box E * IV. Blue Spirit * V. 3 for 5.

This harmonic system complementary to traditional harmony aims at making the contemporary harmonic language effortlessly accessible to everyone interested. Unlike other harmonic systems or treatises on the same subject, the harmonic system proposed by Orlando Sánchez Cubajazz is made up of chords formed on the basis of one note (bass) plus a perfect major chord. Founded on this extraordinarily simple concept, not only the modes of occidental music---major and minor---can be determined but also seventh chord substitutions, other kinds of chord substitutions as well as inversions of perfect major chords. The harmonic system introduced in this book suggests a new theoretical as well as practical approach to this topic, offering an easily comprehensible system that provides straightforward and practical solutions. A valuable cultural exchange at a global level promotes cultural growth and development; mutual influences are inevitable. The author feels that jazz---on a world scale---represents popular music at its maximum expression; and for Cuba and artists such as Orlando Sánchez himself it does carry very special connotations.
