For SATB Chorus with SSATB Soli and Orchestra. Of the 4 surviving settings of the Te Deum by Charpentier, the present one composed in the 'joyeux et tres guerrier' key of D major, is undoubtedly his most famous work, thanks to television producers who chose its opening prelude to be the Eurovision signature tune in the early 1950s. Although Charpentier's Parisian career is quite well documented, little is known about the genesis and first performance of the Te Deum but it has been suggested that it may have been performed during the celebrations of the military victory of Steinkerque (3 August 1692). It is likely, however, that it was commissioned by the Jesuits of the church of Saint-Louis (today, Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis) for whom Charpentier had been working as maitre de musique since 1687.

Handel composed the “Te Deum†in B-flat major HWV 281 in 1718 for the future Duke of Chandos, hence its nickname “Chandos Te Deumâ€. Here it is called “Te Deum for Cannons†after the Duke’s stately home named Cannons where the first performance took place. The unusual scoring for flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, two violins and basso continuo plus a choir (one soprano, three tenors and a bass) probably reflects the musicians which were available at Cannons, bearing in mind that three tenors were used also in “Acis and Galateaâ€, the masque which was composed at almost the same time. Though in many respects this “Te Deum†is reminiscent of the “Utrecht Te Deumâ€, its smaller forces tend to give it more the character of chamber music. This edition is based on the Urtext from the “Halle Handel Edition†(BA 10708-01), which offers the first complete scholarly text of the music for the “Te Deumâ€.

With his organ symphonies, the composer Enjott Schneider (born 1950) from Munich has been a profound sensation in recent years and seen world premieres at major European organ events. The Organ Symphony No. 6 'Te Deum' (premiered at Bruckner's St. Florian above Bruckner's tomb in 2008 and recorded there on CD) adopts the five-part structure and several motifs from Bruckner's 'Te Deum', thus becoming a forceful compact work pervaded by the Gotteslob. 1: 'Te Deum' is based on Bruckner's original figuration of fifths and eighths which is connected with the Latin Te Deum; 2: 'Te Ergo' is a 'preghiera' with pleading and praying gestures; 3: 'Aeterna fac' is an extremely virtuoso perpetuum mobile; 4: 'Salvum Fac' a basso ostinato and finally 5: 'In te, Domine speravi' a toccata which, after taking many detours, inevitably leads to the C major.

Two settings of the Te Deum by Jan Dismas Zelenka have been survived: the Te Deum in D major ZWV 145 of ca. 1724 and the present Te Deum a due cori in D major ZWV 146, which was composed in 1731. Whereas the Te Deum ZWV 145 is scored for five voices (soli e tutti) and an orchestra including two trumpets and timpani, the setting of the Te Deum a due cori, which includes five soloists and two four-part choirs, as well as four trumpets and timpani, and soloistic flauti traversi is magnificently realized in a more decisive manner. The large, solemn scoring suggests that the work was composed for a worship service on the occasion of the birth of the Electoral Princess Maria Josepha of Saxony. The Te Deum is a Latin prayer that has been set to music countless times. But never before has there been a “Te Deum” for multiple choirs and Bluegrass band. Building on the immense success of “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” (48019834), this new major work casts the adult choir as the Angels, the Bluegrass band as “The Mortals” and the children's choir as the ever evolving mix of both. Here is a new major work that is equally at home on the concert stage and in the sanctuary.

After Missa Latina and Magnificat, Te Deum is now the third major composition by musician and composer Karl Albrecht “Bobbi” Fischer published by Carus. Fischer’s musical roots lie in classical music, which he combines with jazz elements and Latin American rhythms. All three styles appear in the Te Deum. In keeping with the proclamation “Te Deum laudamus” (We praise thee, O God), the work begins with the festive (Cuban) energy, propelled by timpani and trumpet; the choir can also be heard imitating fanfares. Later, a cappella choruses become a recurring element, in which phrases set as Gregorian chant are presented against an ever-changing chordal background. But the score also features elements of swing and rhythm & blues, frenetic choral outbursts of joy, as well as moments of mystic contemplation. Moreover, the instrumentalists are given ample opportunity for improvised solos. Interwoven into the otherwise Latin text is the well-known German chorale Großer Gott, wir loben dich. Here several verses can be sung with the congregation; alongside the original German text, the score features the English translation “Holy God, we praise thy name”.- An exciting combination of classical choral music with elements of jazz and Latin American music- The congregation can take part in the performance (chorale)- Singers can choose between Latin/German or Latin/English- Varied mix of styles- An enrichment of our crossover program

As professor at the Munich Academy of Music, the German organist and composer Harald Feller (*1951) not only takes care of the young generation of musicians and is in the limelight as a soloist, but also adds to the organ repertoire by writing major new works. 'Te Deum' is based on the beginning of the Gregorian melody of the Ambrosian hymn. Using polyrhythmic structures, canonic elements and ostinato rhythms, Feller turns a small cell into ecstatic music in the praise of God - 'Te Deum': a powerful symphonic organ work!
