Here is an anthem with fresh perspective and innovative musical elements. Unfolding slowly, this impressionistic tone poem marries text and music with great care and elegance. The lyric comparison of creation to a sanctuary is unique but, when joined with the composer's palette of compositional colors, the result is an anthem of great scope and beauty. Praiseworthy!

Since the days of Renaissance composers - beyond accusations of plagiarism - the admiration for a fellow composer has taken the form of quotations from his works or even new versions of his works. No less a work from the classical period than Joseph Haydn's oratorio The Creation (first performed in 1798), was the basis for the Schopfungsmesse (Creation Mass) by the Salzburg Court and Cathedral Music Director, Luigi Gatti. Gatti heard the oratorio in Salzburg performances conducted by Johann Michael Haydn in 1800. With great skill and sensitivity Gatti was able to underlay the choruses and arias of The Creation with the text of the Mass (at times he reduced and adapted the instrumentation), without doing harm to the admired original. Score available separately - see item CA.2705300.

Bednall's creation, rooted in the tradition of French organ improvisation, tenderly evokes the mysterious beauty of Wells Cathedral's remarkable 'Jesse Window'. The radiant music ebbs and flows calmly, moving through freely expressive passages of rich harmony, before closing with gentle murmurs at the top of the instrument.

Handel's Utrecht Te Deum HWV 278 enthralled London audiences right from its first performance, and it continues to do so today in concert halls and churches all over the world. It was performed for the first time in a festive service on 13 July 1713 in St. Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the Peace marking the end of the twelve year-long War of the Spanish Succession in 1713. The Te Deum was the first commission by the English royal house and was also Handel's first sacred work in the English language. For Handel the Utrecht Te Deum was an important milestone at the beginning of his London career. The composition brought him an annual pension from Queen Anne and helped him to establish himself as a composer of prestigious music for the English royal family. Four further settings of the Ambrosian hymn of praise by Handel followed, including the equally popular Dettingen Te Deum (Carus 55.238). The six soloists required can in practice be reduced to four, and the Te Deum does not contain any stand-alone arias. The chorus is scored in five parts in a few movements (SSATB), with the concluding doxology beginning in double-choir scoring (SST/AATB). For this frequently-performed work Carus offers a musical text reflecting the latest scholarly discoveries. The Critical Report contains information on all the important facts about the work in a practicable, compact form. A detailed foreword contains insights into the creation of the work and its reception. The vocal score, chorus score, and orchestral parts provide for the needs of practical performance; these are complemented by carus music, the choir app for practising the choral parts, as well as the Carus Choir Coach practice CDs and a Vocal Score XL in reader-friendly large print.

You loved SAVAE's bestselling recording Ancient Echoes, now enjoy their latest release, an authentic re-creation of the first Christmas music of the Americas! Celebrations of Christmas Eve (La Noche Buena‚ in Spanish) were spectacular events in the cathedrals of Colonial Latin America. Nativity plays featured lively music influenced by that of the Aztec and Maya indigenous Americans, as well as the rhythms of the African laborers. The diverse dialects, rhythms, and melodies on SAVAE's Christmas recording capture the lively cultural exchange between Spanish and Native Latin American musicians of New Spain. This music was the first Christmas music composed on American soil for the first American converts to Christianity. A unique and special holiday gift for any music lover!

Peter Davis's arangement of Harold Darke's forgotten masterpiece As the Leaves Fall brings this moving elegy for the fallen of 1914-18 within the scope of choral societies and church and cathedral choirs in search of fresh and effective repertoire to mark the centenary of the Great War or the annual commemorations of Remembrance Sunday. Singers and audiences will be delighted to discover the work of little-known soldier-poet Lieutenant Joseph Courtney RAMC, whose verse drew from the composer a 14-minute setting in which Elgarian melancholy and passionate denunciation are transformed into a message of hope. This score is the complete choral performing material for soprano solo and SATB choir, either in performances with organ or, as vocal score, if given with the original accompaniment for small orchestra which is available for rental.
