Sextet Based On The Piano

arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet-Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra...(+)
arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet-Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra No.4 Op.58: arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet.Piano Violin (2) Viola (2) Violoncello. This anonymous sextet arrangement of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto was highly popular in Vienna during the composer’s lifetime. We know this from at least two sets of handwritten parts which were then in circulation. No Piano part has been handed down; indeed the original sets of parts probably omitted the Piano. The soloist presumably studied his part from the first edition of the solo part published with the original performance material in 1808. (The full score did not appear until 1861).The sextetversion deftly integrates the original wind parts into the string texture. The arrangement stands in the tradition of Piano reductions with chamber music accompaniment of the sort which were also made for Mozart’s Piano concertos K.413 to 415 and later for the Chopin concertos. This Urtext edition edited by the renowned Beethoven scholar Jonathan Del Mar presents this arrangement for the first time in print. The musical text is supplemented by an informative Introduction and a Critical Commentary.First ever publication of this arrangement.Includes a separate solo part as was customary in Beethoven’s day.Provides new possibilities for soloists to perform this work.

For Violin Viola and Piano (Reduced from the orchestra version). Britten was so...(+)
For Violin Viola and Piano (Reduced from the orchestra version). Britten was so remarkably prolific as a young composer that many of the works from his teens were put aside to await revision or completion as he rushed on tothe next piece. This was particularly the case around the time of his Opus 1 Sinfonietta composed in the summer of 1932 his second year as a student at the Royal College Of Music. The Sinfonietta waswritten (in less than three weeks) very soon after Britten had completed the first draft of the Double Concerto; but after finishing the Sinfonietta he went back to revise the Concerto's second movement. He started workon his Op.2 Phantasy for Oboe and String Trio a few weeks later.Although the Concerto follows the same three-movement pattern as the Sinfonietta it is more ambitious in scale; and since the sketchis unusually for Britten complete in practically every detail it is puzzling that he never made a full score of the work after finishing the composition and seems to have made no attempt to get it performed. It is not clear ifhe had particular performers in mind (he was of course a Viola player although he is not likely to have intended the part for himself). He showed the work to his composition teacher at the college John Ireland who as Brittenrecorded in his diary was 'pretty pleased' with it; but it is distinctly possible that his experience in rehearsing the Sinfonietta with a student orchestra in 1932 ('I have never heard such an appalling row!' readsanother diary entry) discouraged him from going on to complete the Double Concerto in score. He was not to hear any of his orchestral works until the first performance of Our Hunting Fathers in 1936.In theabsence of Britten's full score it was necessary for me to prepare the work from the sketch. But the instrumentation is so carefully indicated in the draft that the resulting score is not far from being 100% Britten - only between

Clara Wieck’s sincerest wish was that her future husband Robert Schumann ...(+)
Clara Wieck’s sincerest wish was that her future husband Robert Schumann turn his extraordinary genius toward the larger and more challenging task of composing orchestral music. Confiding in her diary in 1839 just one year before her marriage she explained that “it would be best if he composed for Orchestra: his imagination cannot find sufficient scope in the Piano…” In the years that followed their marriage Robert Schumann continued to devote much of his attention to Piano music but he also found the time to comply with his beloved Clara’s wish by creating a number of musical pieces composed specifically for Piano andOrchestra. Although Schumann’s genius is most in evidence in his masterful solo Piano compositions and superb lieder his lively and provocative imagination manifests itself with equal aplomb in the works composed for Piano and Orchestra. The same compelling romantic and lyrical qualities that captivate lovers of Schumann’s Piano music are evident in these compositions. Three of his finest are presented here in full score including the A Minor Piano Concerto one of the most popular and frequently performed concertos ever written. All demonstrate his remarkably innovative approach to music diverting substantially from the classic models of the day and display his immense creativity as well as his warmth and sensitivity. Included in this collection of Schumann’s compositions for Piano and Orchestra are: Piano Concerto In A minor Op. 54 (published 1846) Concertstück Op.92 (Introduction and Allegro appassionato; published 1852) Introduction and Allegro Op. 134 (published 1855) These three works by one of the greatest masters of romanticism will delight musicians music lovers and students as well as devotees of Schumann. Pianists will be especially pleased to have these appealing Schumann works in one convenient edition available at

Piano Reduction-A talented pianist and composer it stood to reason that Camille Saint-Saëns would engage with the Piano concerto genre early on particularly as in France the 'concerto brilliant' was very popular at that time.Saint-Saëns did indeed begin to compose his own concertos however; he gave a clear renunciation of the 'concerto brilliant' declaring instead that 'the solo part of a concerto must be set out and treated like adramatic role'. He realised this concept of a 'symphonic concerto'; in his Piano Concerto No.2 In G Minor composed in 1868.The solo part is technically very challenging and at the same time closely boundup with the Orchestra. Johannes Umbreit is responsible for the Piano reduction based on the composer's own version for Two Pianos; Pascal Rogé supplies the fingerings for the solo part.

Piano: Instrumental Work 2 Pianos, 4 hands [Reduction] Barenreiter
for the Left Hand for Piano and Orchestra Piano reduction and solo part-In 1929...(+)
for the Left Hand for Piano and Orchestra Piano reduction and solo part-In 1929 Paul Wittgenstein a pianist and war veteran who lost his right arm in the Great War commissioned Maurice Ravel to write a concerto for him to perform. The result was one of Ravel’s most thrilling compositions and for Wittgenstein the most important of the many works he commissioned over the course of his career. This scholarly-critical edition of Ravel’s Piano Concerto For The Left Hand is based on previously inaccessible and unknown sources. The editor Douglas Woodfull-Harris was able to consult manuscripts in the private library of the Paul Wittgenstein Estate which allowed him to retrace the work’s evolutionfrom Ravel’s autograph working copy to the first printed edition.A source of key importance to our new edition is a handwritten French copy of Ravel’s own Piano reduction (the autograph is inaccessible) that he gave to Wittgenstein to facilitate rehearsing the work. This copy is the sole source reflecting Wittgenstein’s own interpretation and containing his changes to the final cadenza. It also helps us to understand omissions in the first edition of the score as well as the Piano reduction and enabled the editor amongst other things to correct a great many notes which could be found in previous editions including the solo Piano part. The Piano reduction in our edition contains both Ravel’s and Wittgenstein’s fingering. Also included is a solo part without fingering thereby giving pianists the opportunity to enter their own fingering after having studied those of Ravel and Wittgenstein.Score and orchestral parts in large format (25.5 x 32.5 cm)Includes source descriptions and a Critical Commentary with alternative readings (Eng)Informative Introduction on the work’s history and genesis (Ger/Eng/Fr)With facsimile pagesPiano reduction with separate Urtext solo part enclosedFull score & parts (BA7881) and two-Piano reduction (BA7881-90) available for sale

Karl Kohaut (1726 - 1784) was an Austrian lutenist and composer of Czech descent considered to be one of the last important composers of music for Baroque lute. Although also a violinist active in the Viennese music scene he was most well-known as a lutenist. He composed a total of seven lute concertos during his lifetime including this Concerto in F Major No. 2 (not to be confused with his Concerto in F Major No. 1 which is considered the most popular) in three movements: Allegro moderato Andante molto and Tempo di Minuetto. In this edition Victor Van Puijenbroeck has created a piano reduction of the orchestral score and also has adapted the lute part to be played onguitar.
