Karl Kohaut (1726 - 1784) was an Austrian lutenist and composer of Czech descent considered to be one of the last important composers of music for Baroque lute. Although also a violinist active in the Viennese music scene he was most well-known as a lutenist. He composed a total of seven lute concertos during his lifetime including this Concerto in F Major No. 2 (not to be confused with his Concerto in F Major No. 1 which is considered the most popular) in three movements: Allegro moderato Andante molto and Tempo di Minuetto. In this edition Victor Van Puijenbroeck has created a piano reduction of the orchestral score and also has adapted the lute part to be played onguitar. Included are parts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). Concerto No.2 'Haydn' A series of works based on the surviving two bars of Haydn's 'lost' Double Bass Concerto. Based on the two surviving bars of Haydn's 'lost' Double Bass Concerto and dedicated to David Heyes, this magnificent new concerto is a tour-de-force from a respected and leading Czech bassist-composer. In a tonal and accessible style, there are musical and technical challenges for the advanced bassist and this edition is only available in solo tuning. Influenced by the late 18th-century style, but imbued with Czech lyricism and influences, this new three-movement concerto is a major addition to the repertoire and utilises the entire range of the double bass. The concerto has been performed throughout Europe many times, most recently in Macedonia and Serbia by the composer. Miloslav Gajdos has composed and transcribed many works for double bass in a 40 year career and is Professor of Double Bass at the Vejvenovsky Conservatoire in Kromeriz (Czech Republic) alongside many international recitals and masterclasses. Performance Level: Advanced Miloslav Gajdos is one of Europe's most active and inventive bassist-composers. He was born in northern Moravia in 1948 and initially learned violin before transferring to the double bass, studying with Alois Kriz, Jiri Bortlicek and Ludwig Streicher. He has been Professor of Double Bass at the Vejvenovsky Conseravtoire in Kromeriz (Czech Republic) since 1971, and was a member of the Olomouc Symphony Orchestra for a number of years. He is Director of the Gregora International Double Bass Competition, founded in 1979 and held every two years in Kromeriz, and has been a juror at many competitions in Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic. Miloslav Gajdos is a prolific composer and arranger and, for almost 40 years, has produced a vast body of original works and transcriptions for double bass which are performed worldwide. His original works combine Czech lyricism and melody with brilliant technical demands, and music from one to sixteen double basses. He writes in a traditional and accessible style, producing music for every level of performer, particularly for the advanced bassist, and his many works for unaccompanied double bass are frequently chosen as international competition repertoire. Miloslav Gajdos was Recital Music's Featured Composer in 2007 and has recently revised a number of earlier works for the intermediate bassist which will be published by Recital Music.

It was there that he won the favour of Wilhelmine of Prussia Margravine of Bayreuth a lutenist herself and the sister of Frederick the Great. He composed a variety of music for lute including this Concerto in F Major in three movements: Allegro Andante and Vivace. Für Klavier und Orchester-Johann Joseph Rösler (1771 1812) was a composer conductor and pianist who was active in Prague and Vienna. Later he was in the service of Prince Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz. His Piano Concerto No. 2 in E-flat major of 1803 is a fitting companion to the piano concertos of Beethoven; indeed his first Piano Concerto in D major was mistakenly attributed to Beethoven until 1925.Now Rösler?s second Piano Concerto is appearing in print for the first time. This is due to editor Alena Hönigová discovering and identifying an autograph score which is the only preserved source in the Prague Conservatory archive. In this Urtext edition Hönigová takes into account the distinctivefeatures of Rösler?s handwriting and the division of parts in the score as befits the performance practice of his day.

Composed at the end of 1785 Mozart?s Piano Concerto in E-flat major forms a group of three with the two famous concerti in A major K. 488 and in C minor K. 491 which he completed in March of the following year. What they all have in common is Mozart?s inclusion of Clarinets in the Orchestra for the first time. In this he succeeded to particularly impressive effect with the lyrical passages in the slow sections of the E-flat-major concerto which was well received by the audience at the first performance. Indeed his father Leopold reports in a letter that Mozart ?had to repeat? the Andante immediately. G.Henle Publishers is issuing this concerto undeservedly overshadowed by its famous siblings in a handy study edition in full score; a Piano reduction is in preparation.

The Bohemian composer Jan K titel Va hal/Johann Baptist Vanhal (1739 1813) settled in Vienna around 1763. There he wrote several concertos for various instruments of which two for Viola have survived. Both are evidently not original compositions but arrangements by Va hal of some of his own works a common practice of that time. The Viola Concerto In C Major is based on Va hal's Cello concerto in the same key.Barenreiter's new revised edition makes this Concerto available once again.
