This is a misfortune for it means that a golden age of music which included Handel and Bach and a host of lesser but admirable composers has hitherto been a closed book to clarinetists.This delightful little work is a free arrangement of movements taken from two of Tartini?s sonatas for Violin arranged for Clarinet and String Orchestra by Gordon Jacob. Although Ferdinand David is mostly known as a composer for a couple of his instrumental works, namely a Concertino for Trombone, and this Concertino, Op. 12 for bassoon, perhaps he should be most well-known as the violinist who premiered the Violin Concerto of Felix Mendelssohn in 1845. He was appointed as concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig when Mendelssohn, a childhood friend, became the principal conductor in 1835. This Concertino for bassoon also exists in a version for viola, and now subsequently this edition for bass clarinet. It is a fun solo in two parts, first an aria-like melody, followed by a technical 'Presto agitato.' The key has been kept the same asthe original version, and although it is preferred to perform with an extended range instrument, indications are made for adapting it to a standard range bass clarinet. Et puis... et puis vient le temps de l'écriture...une errance chargée d'encre et de papier, tentative d'écrire dans sa propre langue ce qu'on ne sait pas encore écrire 'Né en 1960 à Perpignan, Bruno Giner commence ses études musicales à Toulouse, puis dans sa ville natale et à Barcelone. A Paris, il suit régulièrement les cours de Pierre Boulez au Collège de France et travaille la composition (électroacoustique et instrumentale) successivement avec Luis de Pablo, Ivo Malec et Brian Ferneyhough.Aujourd'hui, ses oeuvres sont jouées dans de nombreux festivals français et internationaux, et sont interprétées par différents ensembles de musique contemporaine (Aleph, Sic, Fa, L'instant donné, Grame, Nomos, Motus, Intercontemporain, Quatuor Arditti, Klangheimlich, Frullato, Xasax, Ars Nova Nürnberg, Ixtla, Slowind).
