During the time the arranger studied bassoon in college, he always got the impression that the Premier Solo by Eugene Bourdeau was one of those minor pieces, meant to be played early on as a student before being able or allowed to play the real repertoire. Originally composed for the Concours of the Paris Conservatory, there really is a lot going on in such a relatively short piece and the piece transposes remarkably well for the bass clarinet! Included are a part for a standard-range instrument (to low E-flat), and for an extended range instrument (to low C), with the latter being identical to the original bassoon part. From the edition for bass clarinet and piano, this arrangement has been created for solo bass clarinet and clarinet choir, although it is perfectly suitable for a bassoon to be the soloist as well.

What began as an arrangement of this movement for a budding high school bass clarinet soloist has evolved into a full arrangement for soloist accompanied by clarinet choir. Naturally, even though the original intent of this arrangement is for a bass clarinetist to be feature, the solo part could also be successfully performed by a bassoon, euphonium, or even a trombone. Written when Mozart was only 18 years old, this concerto is a cornerstone in the repertoire, and bassoonists are typically expected to play at least part of it in any orchestral audition.

Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition. The vocal score has been newly prepared to reflect current practical requirements. As an economical alternative, a chorus score is available. Bruckner's Te Deum is also available in carus music, the choir app. The app contains the music and a recording, as well as a coach to help with learning each choral part. In preparation: arrangement of the Te Deum for soli, choir, brass quintet and organ. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2719000.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the death of Louis Spohr, for the first time Carus is publishing a critical edition of The Last Judgment, the most important of his four oratorios. It was first performed on Good Friday, 1826 in Kassel. It is based on the theologically most significant portions of the Revelations of John in the New Testament, whose visions of death and eternity Spohr vividly portrayed in music. The work represents an important enrichment to the repertoire of the oratorio, especially suitable for the end of the church year. It is captivating on account of its masterful instrumentation, excellent use of chromaticism, large-scale solo recitatives and accessible choral passages filled with heartfelt sensitivity on the one hand, and exciting drama on the other. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2300300.

The musically convincing and, in many respects, original setting of the liturgical text in Herzogenberg's Mass represents a final culmination in the late romantic repertoire of the genre Missa solemnis. The full score, which is published here for the first time, makes this most inspiring work by Herzogenberg accessible for performance.
