The third volume of four volumes of Llobet's masterful transcriptions for solo guitar. His transcription of the Tchaikovsky Mazurka Op. 40 no. 5 is a brilliant achievement. Cécile Chaminade's charming Aire de Ballet no. 3 from 1925 for piano in Llobet's transcription is a first publication and a most welcome addition to the guitar repertoire by a famous composer. The Berceuse by Villar is a first publication of the version that Llobet used to perform, which is quite different to the UME edition. As a matter of interest, note that our 15-volume edition of Llobet's collected works includes no fewer than 60 first publications.

Affiliating herself with nationalist composers such as Saint-Saëns and Gounod, her style was very much rooted in both Romantic and French tradition. Her tuneful and highly accessible works were also tremendous favorites in the United States. Chaminade's Album of Songs was originally published between 1892 and 1893 and included thirty-seven total songs across two volumes, with versions for both high voice and low voice made available. LudwigMasters has made all thirty-seven songs available, with three books for each volume, totaling six books each for both high and low voices. Included in Volume 1, Book 3: Amour d'automne (W276, 1889); Souhait (W264, 1886); Colette (W285, 1891); L'absente (W271, 1886); L'anneau d'argent (W284, 1891); Amoroso (W283, 1891); Sur la plage (W286, 1892).

The great talent of Cecile Chaminade (1857-1944) showed very early: At the age of 12, she published her first composition. Georges Bizet, a friend of the family, predicted her great future. After her successful debut as a pianist in Paris in 1877, she began busy concert activities as a solo pianist, chamber musician and conductor in many European countries as well as in the USA and Canada.Although many of her compositions became bestsellers during her lifetime, they are almost all missing in the concert programmes of today. Only the Concertino for flute and orchestra Op. 107 is still performed regularly. The demanding piece was written in 1902 as a competition piece at the Paris Conservatoire - initially still with piano accompaniment. The orchestral version was composed by Chaminade two years later.The piece begins with a wide melody and then turns into a virtuoso solo section which is followed by a cadenza. The piece ends with the initial theme as recapitulation and a coda.
