Here is the distinctive Duke Ellington classic in a very easy setting for band. By using a moderately fast tempo in 4/4 Michael was able to capture the feel of the original using nothing faster than a quarter note in the windparts. The percussion are featured briefly and compliment the style of the arrangement very nicely.

The great Karl King wrote many wonderful marches, and The Caravan Club is one of his most interesting and unusual works. Heavy and ponderous at times, light and frisky at others, this march was used often in the circus to accompany tiger acts. An ominous introduction leads to a lumbering first strain, followed by a delightful contrasting, almost ragtime-like second strain. The trio features a wonderful melody with euphonium countermelody, in the style made so famous by King. The weighty breakstrain returns to a minor key feel, and then concludes with an embellished version of the trio. One of the march King’s very best! Immense!

In a Persian Market was composed in 1920 by English composer Albert W. Ketelby. It is a short tone poem that describes the hustle and bustle taking place at a busy, exotic Persian bazaar. Camel herders, beggars, a princess, jugglers, snake charmers and a myriad of others fill the musical scenes. The princess and her caravan eventually pass by and all is back to normal. Tohru Takahashi's arrangement perfectly conveys the sights, sounds and smells of a Persian market.
