This instrumental chacarera was composed by Atahualpa Yupanqui's (1908-1992) wife Antonietta "Nenette" Paule Pepin Fitzpatrick (1908-1990) under the male pseudonym "Pablo del Cerro". According to the lists of recordings (https://www.atacris.com/ata/odeon-liste.html) Yupanqui recorded this piece twice. My transcription is based on the first version he recorded on the 5th of November 1959 in Argentina for the record label ODEON. This version recorded in E minor was released on the album "Canto Y Guitarra Volumen Nº 7" (1960). Ten years later, he recorded a second version for the label LE CHANT DU MONDE in France, which was released on the album "Preguntitas Sobre Dios" (1969). For this second recording, he used a capo in the 4th fret, so it sounds in G# minor, but except for tiny variations, it's played more or less the same way. A few weeks ago, I transcribed Yupanqui's solo guitar version from 1959 and arranged it for charango. The melody line of my adoption is pretty much what you hear on the original recording, and even the bass line is quite close to the original. However, the harmonies of the B part are a bit reduced, and I didn't play the repetition. The A part is quite simple and easy to play, but the B part is a bit more difficult on the charango, especially if you were to perform it at the same speed as Yupanqui's original recording.
