The Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo attributed to the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello. The earliest extant manuscript containing Johann Sebastian Bach's solo keyboard arrangement of the concerto, BWV 974, dates from around 1715.Bach's keyboard version was published as an arrangement of a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi in the 19th century. In 1923 the C minor version of the oboe concerto was published as a composition by Benedetto Marcello, Alessandro's brother. In the second half of the 20th century several publications indicated Alessandro again as the composer of the piece, as it had been in its early 18th-century print, and the oboe concerto was again published in its D minor version. This arrangement for C or Bb euphonium with piano accompaniment of the marvelous second movement (adagio) of the concerto is suitable for any occasion. Molly Malone (also known as Cockles and Mussels or In Dublin's Fair City) is a popular song set in Dublin, Ireland, which has become its unofficial anthem. The Molly Malone statue in Grafton Street was unveiled by then Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alderman Ben Briscoe, during the 1988 Dublin Millennium celebrations, when 13 June was declared to be Molly Malone Day. The statue was presented to the city by Jury's Hotel Group to mark the Millennium. On 18 July 2014, the statue was relocated to Suffolk Street, in front of the Tourist Information Office, to make way for Luas track-laying work to be completed at the old location. The song tells the fictional tale of a fishwife who plied her trade on the streets of Dublin and died young, of a fever. In the late 20th century a legend grew up that there was a historical Molly, who lived in the 17th century. She is typically represented as a hawker by day and part-time sex-worker by night. In contrast she has also been portrayed as one of the few chaste female street-hawkers of her day. There is no evidence that the song is based on a real woman, of the 17th century or any other time. The name Molly originated as a familiar version of the names Mary and Margaret. While many such Molly Malones were born in Dublin over the centuries, no evidence connects any of them to the events in the song. Nevertheless, the Dublin Millennium Commission in 1988 endorsed claims made for a Mary Malone who died on 13 June 1699, and proclaimed 13 June to be Molly Malone Day.A variant, Cockles and Mussels, with some different lyrics, appeared in Students' Songs: Comprising the Newest and Most Popular College Songs As Now Sung at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, ... Union, etc in 1884. Vixen The Hipster Reindeer (Lower Brass Quartet)

An original 21st Century piece which fuses influences from nearly every genre and period. The Nocturne showcases the performer's tone quality, particularly in the upper register. The melody has hints of Contemporary Classical, Post-Romantic, and New Age, but overall is Minimalist. The Piano Accompaniment in this section is entirely a 2 chord ostinato in the Right Hand only. The Rondo has continuity from the Nocturne in that the Piano Accompaniment continues with Right Hand only chords. This section is heavily rhythmic with West Indian/Caribbean rhythms and some pulsing Rock influence, yet still with characteristics of Contemporary Classical. This Nocturne and Rondo makes a great Audition piece to show your musicianship. Or a formal Recital performance piece. Nocturne - 64 mm, Andante, 4:30-5 min.Rondo - 61 mm, Allegro, 1:45-2 min. 7 page score, 3 page solo part. Air Varie for Euphonium or Ophicleide

Bl_music #6644623. Published by bl_music (A0.842573). Narcisse Bousquet (ca. 1800 – 1869) was a French composer, flageolet player and the conductor of the Elysée-Monmartre orchestra. He appears to have been active in both England and France in the first half of the Century. The dates given are the conventional ones, though there is a lack of evidence to support them. In about 1855, Bousquet worked with Jules Prudence Rivière at the Casino Paganini. There is a reference to him working in Paris at the Bal Barthélémy between about 1860 and 1865. One book Le Polycorde ou Nouveau Traite Théorique et Pratique de Musique, published in 1872 by J. Frédéric Giraud, describes a six-key French flageolet as the Systéme Bousquet so he may have been involved in the development of this type of instrument. Beyond this, very little is known about Bousquet and he does not appear in any of the usual sources for information about 19th Century French musicians. Jingle Bells arranged for euphonium & piano. Jingle Bells is perhaps the most famous songs in American music history. James L. Pierpont published the song as One Horse Open Sleigh in the late 1850’s. Since its introduction, people began to insist that Pierpont wrote it for a Sunday school choir. However, it seems unlikely that such a secular song would be considered appropriate during that historical period for Sunday school.Christmas Repertoire Pierpont wrote the song for the Thanksgiving holidays, but over time people began to think of it more as a Christmas song. Some choirs adopted it as part of their Christmas repertoire in the 1860s and 1870s. Jingle Bells was first recorded in 1889 on a wax cylinder. Origins No one knows where Pierpont composed the song. One theory suggests he wrote it in Medford Massachusetts in 1850. Sleigh races were certainly popular in 19th Century Massachusetts. To this day, a commemorative placard appears in Medford square claiming that it is the birthplace of Jingle Bells. Others suggest that he wrote it in Savannah, Georgia where he was an organist and music director at the Unitarian Church. This theory gains support from the copyright date of 1857. We know he was living in Savannah by then. Traffic Signals Horse-drawn sleighs are relatively quiet in the snow. Consequently, horses were usually equipped with bell-laden straps so as to avoid accidents at blind intersections. Sleigh drivers in 19th Century New England were constantly vigilant, listening for the sounds of approaching horse-drawn sleighs. The tune imitates the rhythm that the trotting horse bells produce. Social Context Jingle Bells was sung as a drinking song at local revelries: during the song folks would rhythmically jangle the ice in their glasses. A sleigh ride gave couples an opportunity to be alone together. The term Jingle bells is a poetic descriptive adjective referring specifically to the more accurate term sleigh bells. In many arrangements, sleigh bells are used to accentuate the rhythm during the song chorus. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com
