Published by David McKeown (A0.1118320). Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United States’ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. The Rags included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite. They have been arranged as solos for one Trumpet with piano accompaniment, and include all sections of the original compositions. You will download one pdf file that contains both 22 pages of piano score and the 10 page solo part. These pieces are suitable for players at an intermediate and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime solos ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Trumpet and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.747404 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Darrell Goforth. 20th Century,Instructional,Ragtime. Score and parts. 20 pages. Darrell Harrison Goforth #2218133. Published by Darrell Harrison Goforth (A0.747404). The Cascades is one of Scott Joplin's most descriptive works, depicting the Cascades Gardens at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. While setting this piece for Brass Quintet, I decided to use Euphonium instead of Trombone to allow for a more fluid sound. However, it works fine with Trombone as you can hear from the accompanying mp3 (the MIDI sound file for Euphonium is not really the best). This Rag should add a little spice to any performance, recital, etc.Comments or questions are always welcome at dgoforth2@comcast.netLike me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/goforthmusic/ andvisit my YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/dgoforth2
