Trombone Duet Trombone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1109603 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score. 5 pages. David McKeown #711973. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109603). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This duet version for Trombone Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. Chicory Music #3116333. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734358). March of the Three Kings for Trombone Duet arranged at the Advanced Intermediate level. The Crusades, those religious expeditions to rescue the holy places in Palestine from the Muslims, created an enormous interest in both faith and fighting in the Middle Ages. French peasants from Provence in the 13th century, when the tune for this March of the Kings was being sung and danced to, must have endowed the Three Kings of the Christmas story with all the virtues and appearance of their own folk heroes nearer at hand. These were the French dukes, clad in gleaming armor, carrying brilliant banners and bejeweled shields, who fought for the Pope far more willingly than they would have for the lives of their own serfs. Hence the martial references in this text, sung to a tune that is perhaps even older than the verses. Georges Bizet, composer of the opera Carmen, used the same tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet’s play L’Arlesienne (The Woman from Aries). The March of the Three Kings has been arranged in the trombone friendly key of c minor at the advanced intermediate level.Performance time: approx. 2 minutes. Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Trombones. Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. Trombone Duet Trombone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.590705 Composed by David McKeown. Holiday,Latin,Love,Wedding,World. Score. 5 pages. David McKeown #6233607. Published by David McKeown (A0.590705). Amor, (Portuguese for Love), is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Trombones, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world. This duet is based on the Brazilian style of Bossa Nova which evolved in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1950s. Bossa in its purest form is lyrical song accompanied by nylon-stringed guitar. The rhythm derives from Samba but is played at around half tempo. The harmony is often complex and influenced by jazz; indeed it was the collaboration between guitarist João Gilberto and American Saxophonist Stan Getz that led to the huge international popularity of Bossa Nova in the 1960s and beyond. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Amor has a performance time of around three minutes.
