String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.861933 Composed by Mark O'Connor. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 44 pages. Mark O'Connor Musik International #6208117. Published by Mark O'Connor Musik International (A0.861933). The American Seasons (double basses part – violin and string orchestra) MO148HDouble Basses Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor40 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Double Bass,String Bass Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018941 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072983. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018941). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings , with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Les Indes Galantes (French: "The Amorous Indies") is an opera by Jean-Philippe Rameau with a libretto by Louis Fuzelier. It takes the form of an opéra-ballet with a prologue and (in its final form) four entrées (acts). Following an allegorical prologue, the four entrées have distinct and separate plots, but are unified by the theme of love in exotic places (The Ottoman Empire, Peru, Persia, and North America). The most famous pieces from the work, Danse des Sauvages and the final Chaconne, come from the final entrée (Les sauvages).
The premiere, including only the prologue and the first two of its four entrées (acts), was staged by the Académie Royale de Musique at itstheatre in the Palais-Royal in Paris on 23 August 1735, starring the leading singers of the Opéra, Marie Antier, Marie Pélissier, Mlle Errémans, Mlle Petitpas, Denis-François Tribou, Pierre Jélyotte, and Claude-Louis-Dominique Chassé de Chinais, and the dancers Marie Sallé and Louis Dupré. Michel Blondy provided the choreography. The ballet's Premier Menuet was used in the soundtrack of the 2006 film Marie Antoinette.
The Sauvages: The stage shows a grove in a forest in America, on the borders of the French and Spanish colonies, where the ceremony of the Peace Pipe is about to be celebrated
Adario, a Native American, is in love with Zima, daughter of a native chief, but he fears the rivalry of the Spaniard Don Alvar and the Frenchman Damon (Air: Rivaux des mes exploits, rivaux des mes amours). The Europeans plead with Zima for her love, but she says Damon is too fickle and Alvar is too jealous; she prefers the natural love shown by Adario (Air: Sur nos bords l'amour vole) and the couple vow to marry (Duet: Hymen, viens nous unir d'une chaîne éternelle). The act ends with the Europeans joining the natives in the ceremony of peace (Chorus: Forêts paisibles).

Cello,Double Bass,Flute,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576980 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. 64 pages. David Warin Solomons #566725. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576980). Westerly is inspired by the old English folk song Westron Wynde and by the Renaissance masses based on that folk song It is an expanded version of Celebration originally written for James Pellerite and his North American Native flute [NAF] In order to make the piece accessible to a wider range of performers this version uses a concert flute, with wider range and with just a few of the NAF decorations, and the violin solo part has also been expanded, resulting in a miniature Double Concerto. Â Westerly uses four distinct themes and weaves them into a joyful whole. Â The flute soloist introduces himself with the traditional call of the North American Native flute (a repeated minor third phrase), which reappears from time to time in the rest of the piece, and then embarks upon a sort of jig in E flat major (second theme). The violin soloist copies these flute phrases but then introduces the third theme of the work in the related key of C minor, and the string orchestra comes in. Â This third tune is based on the old Westron Wynde melody but it uses an unusual rhythm (3 3 2) and the excitement gradually begins to mount. Â So the two soloists rhapsodise on the various tunes and permutations along with the orchestral strings, mixing the various tunes together. Â In due course the fourth theme comes in, and it is quite surprising how it fits in with the E flat major - C minor interplay, since it is merely a 12 tone row. It follows some of the traditions of the 20th Century atonal composers, but, due to the context in which it is set, it takes on a warmth seldom found in atonal music. The pdf file contains score and parts.

Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Double Bass,Guitar,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522196 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Concert,Holiday,Jazz,Latin,Patriotic,Wedding. Score and parts. 35 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3397237. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522196). Three numbers in popular style for two alto saxes and piano (or alto and tenor) with optional part for guitar and/or bass. These pieces are in jazz and Latin styles and are intended for intermediate students. They’re ideal for an end-of-term concert or recital but would be useful for any festive occasion or celebration. The 13-page piano score also includes the saxophone parts. The highest note in the 1st sax part is (written) C6 and that in the 2nd sax part is A6. Both parts avoid low D and C. Five-page parts for the two E flat alto saxophones are provided as well as an optional part for tenor sax, which is exactly the same part as the 2nd saxophone. In the piano parts the improvisation chords are shown only in the 1st alto part purely for the sake of visual tidiness, but they appear in all the saxophone parts so that any participant can offer an improvised solo. The guitar and bass parts are combined and the bass part is similar to the left hand of the piano part. All five parts are presented in a single PDF file. An MP3 file of all the piano accompaniments is also available as a separate item. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679812 1. Hit the Town This is an entertaining swinger in the concert key of E flat and 4/4 time. It uses “jazz†eighth notes (quavers) and would be good introduction to playing in a jazz style. The improvisation section can be repeated as often as required. 2. Cool company A slow number in F major in a Latin-American style, this gives the opportunity to practise a soft singing tone-quality. There is one short section for improvising. 3. Freeway Written in 3/4 time in B flat, this jazzy waltz also uses “jazz†eighth notes (quavers) and the improvisation section can be repeated as often as required.

Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251539 Composed by Arr. Michael Sweeney and Percy Aldridge Grainger. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Folk. 24 pages. RayThompsonMusic #845816. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1251539). Lincolnshire Posy is a musical composition by Percy Grainger for concert band commissioned in 1937 by the American Bandmasters Association. Considered by John Bird, the author of Grainger's biography, to be his masterpiece, the 16-minute-long work has six movements, each adapted from folk songs that Grainger had collected on a 1905–1906 trip to Lincolnshire, England. In a similar fashion to these folk songs, many of the movements are in strophic form. This is my arrangement of No.VI. The Lost Lady FoundArranged symphonic wind dectet (double wind quintet) and bassA lilting 3/4 melody in strophic form. As the tempo is too fast for the conductor to gesture each beat of every measure, the movement is typically conducted in 1 where each gesture given by the conductor indicates a full measure instead of each beat. Every section of the ensemble states the theme at some point in the movement. This movement is based on the ballad of the same name,in which a lady, who while living with her uncle in a village is kidnapped by three Roma. After being missing for a long time, the villagers begin to speculate that the uncle is responsible for her disappearance, later imprisoning him and condemning him to death. At some point, the lady was found in Dublin by a young squire who loved her and was subsequently brought back to the village. Upon return to the village, the villagers, mere moments away from executing the uncle at the gallows, realized their error and set the uncle free, celebrating the lady's return with church bells (which are emulated by the tubular bells in the closing of the movement), music, and frivolity. As this movement was not yet completed at the time of the work's premiere, it was omitted for the performance. For Info:Green Bushes is an English folk song  which is featured in the second movement of Vaughan Williams's English Folk Song Suite, in Percy Grainger's Green Bushes (Passacaglia on an English Folksong), and in George Butterworth's The Banks of Green Willow. The melody is very similar to that of the Lost Lady Found movement.
