String Ensemble - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1037867 Composed by Pierre Phalèse. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance. Score and parts. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #642781. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1037867). Unlike country dances, the formal dances of royal courts in the sixteenth century required a good deal of study and practice. Many dancing masters published self-help instructional books, especially in France and Italy. Composers and publishers saw a commercial potential in collections of dance music and one of the earliest collections was that by composer and publisher Tielman (or Tylman) Susato, who published his Danserye in Antwerp in 1551. These music books were usually arranged with four independent instrumental parts and intended for use by any instruments that happened to be available. The two almands in this arrangement were well known popular melodies at the time of publication. They still retain their freshness and charm today and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. This arrangement is for virtually any string ensemble and the single PDF file includes a full score and parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello and bass (combined), keyboard and simple percussion. Two additional melody part are provided in the treble and bass clefs and the chords (for optional guitar) are shown in both keyboard and cello-bass parts. In the spirit of the original publication, you can add to the melody line any other C-pitch instruments that happen to be available. Even the additional of a couple of recorders will enhance the sound. Alternatively, you can do opposite and create a pleasing contrast by omitting various instruments for certain sections. The audio demo will give you an idea how this might be achieved. While you can add flute, recorder, oboe, glockenspiel or whatever you want, additional instruments are not essential but can add contrasting tone colour. The keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible, the keyboard player should feel free to improvise around the part and the chords shown. A digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic than a piano. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The optional percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a tambour or hand-held drum, antique (finger) cymbals, wood-blocks and tambourine. Two or three players can be used (but feel free to add more) and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

Piano,Recorder Solo,Soprano Recorder - Level 3 - SKU: A0.898117 Composed by Willem de Fesch (1687-1761). Arranged by Douglas Brooks-Davies (1942-). Baroque,Concert. Individual part. 19 pages. Douglas Brooks-Davies #6287455. Published by Douglas Brooks-Davies (A0.898117). One of the Op 4 Sonatas (1725) and originally for violin, this Sonata In G has become a favourite with recorder players, though not easy to obtain. This edition contains (1) soprano recorder part, with editorial trills and mordents, plus a written out ornamented cadence to the penultimate bar of the opening Largo; (2) keyboard part with figured bass; (3) bass continuo (cello, viola da gamba, or bassoon). All tempo markings are editorial; the keyboard realisation is editorial and can, of course, be modified at will, as can ornamentation of the recorder part. NOTE: a limitation of my notation software has necessitated using hash for the figured bass sharp sign, and for the figured natural, I have used hash cancelled with a slash. A lovely, approachable Sonata.

String Ensemble - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1041170 Composed by Pierre Phalèse Jnr. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance. Score and parts. 18 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #645901. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1041170). These two dances are taken from a collection entitled Recueil de danseries, contenant presque toutes sortes de danses (“Collection of dances, containing almost every kind of dancesâ€) published in Antwerp in 1583 by Pierre Phalèse Jnr (c.1545-1629). He was continuing the work of his father Pierre Phalèse the Elder (1510-1575) the most important publisher in the Low Countries during the 16th century. The piece known as Ungaresca evokes the atmosphere of street music rather than that of the court and the drone accompaniment that Phalèse provides suggests the sound of the peasant bagpipes. As the name implies, the dance came from Hungary though it may have simply been a dance in the Hungarian style. Even so, the melody was tremendously popular during the fifteenth century though the author is unknown. The dance calls for a lively performance, and you can use plenty of percussion to enliven it. This music was meant for dancing and entertainment and musicians would often combine several dances to make a more substantial piece. In this arrangement, the rather wild Ungaresca is paired with the stately Almande Poussinghe. The music would have been played by any instruments that happened to be available. The dances still retain their freshness and charm today and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. This arrangement is for virtually any string ensemble and the single PDF file includes a full score and parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello and bass (combined), keyboard and simple percussion. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1018135). Following from the success of the Hits of the Renaissance for Strings, featuring well-known dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius, this arrangement is from another classic book of dances from the same period. Pierre Phalèse (1510-1575) was a Flemish publisher and his First Book of Dances, an extensive collection of dances in four parts, was published in Leuven in 1571. String Orchestra - Level 2 - SKU: A0.522223 Composed by Anonymous. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional,Renaissance. Score and parts. 20 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3915085. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522223). Les Courantes are two well-known dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius. They have been arranged for strings, keyboard, optional guitar, recorder or any C-pitched instruments and simple percussion. In this series, Renaissance Hits for Strings, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too and the flexible instrumentation allows any players to take a solo with the melody part. They can be played by string quartet, string orchestra or ideally string ensemble plus any other C-pitch instruments that happen to be available. This publication consists of a score showing the four-part ensemble, keyboard and percussion parts. There are separate parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello/bass, percussion and keyboard. Additional instruments are not essential but they add contrasting tone colour. The keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option.Every instrumental part (except percussion) also shows the melody line. This allows anyone to take a solo and play the melody, while the other players remain tacet. Solos can be decided in advance and the parts marked accordingly. Just cross out what you don’t need! The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a tambour or hand-held drum, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usually required and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that. Â

Small Ensemble Alto Flute,Cello,Clarinet,Oboe d'Amore,Piano Accompaniment,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.902150 By Rainer's Rainbow. By Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Arranged by R G Roth. Baroque,Christmas,Easter,Instructional. Score and parts. 94 pages. Rainer's Rainbow #6433799. Published by Rainer's Rainbow (A0.902150). Giovanni Battista Pergolesi lived from 1710-1736. The earliest records of this concerto for flute are from a publication of 1750, therefore the piece came to be known after Pergolesi's death. I have created a small orchestra accompaniement to the solo which has rarely been available. In addition to a standard flute in C part (which can be played on a Soprano Recorder), I have included alternative solo music for Oboe d'amore in A (playable on A Clarinet) and Flauta Dolce in G (playable on an Alto Flute in G).

Small Ensemble Cello,Flute,Guitar,Handbell,Multi-Percussion,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.835782 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Score and parts. 88 pages. Paul Burnell #3222659. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835782). Composed 2017. One of a series of fourteen accompaniments to texts published between the years 1886 and 1899. Duration 30:00 For narrator and ensemble Text from the novella by H.G. Wells (1866 - 1946) published in 1895 The subtitles for each of the six movements are: Part 1 - the Model Part 2 - the Journey Part 3 - the Eloi Part 4 - the Morlocks Part 5 - the Eclipse Part 6 - the Ghost 'The Time Machine' is a science fiction novel by Herbert George Wells, published in 1895. H. G. Wells is commonly credited with the popularisation of the concept of time travel - using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel intentionally and selectively backwards or forwards in time. Ensemble instrumentation: Keyboard(s) - accordion, organ, glass harmonica, vibraphone, piano, toy piano, etc. Flute or tenor/bass recorder Violin or viola or violincello. Wine glass 1 tuned to Bb Wine glass 2 tuned to C - ideally a minor seventh below wine glass 1 Handbells, three players using bows and beaters: Voice or guitar (acoustic, electric or bass guitar) Percussion - Suspended cymbal, low drum(s), whirly tube(s), ‘found’ resonant instruments, plastic bag(s), singing bowl, guiro(s) There is no overall score. Performers (except percussion) play from a series of graphic scores. The percussion parts are written in more traditional notation. It is not necessary for the ensemble to contain all the instruments. If all instruments are available then the ensemble may vary the instrumentation, or omit instruments, for each of the movements, or within movements. The dynamic balance between players should be sympathetic to the forces available. This may mean, for example, that an accordion is muted or sited away from the other players. Effects such as reverberation or distortion may be applied to the instrumental sounds. Variety of expression is encouraged. The narrator’s text readings must each have a duration of under five minutes. For each of the six movements the ensemble begins playing one minute after the speaker. It is allowed for the movements to be performed as single pieces, and without the narration.

Choral Choir (SATB) - SKU: A0.835786 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Octavo. 124 pages. Paul Burnell #3405305. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835786). Composed 2007, duration 8:30 approx. The music and text of ‘The Sense of a Place Will Remain’ was inspired by pictures of an early carved stone cross and a tenth-century Viking burial stone on the island of Inchcolm in Scotland. First performed by Inchcolm New Music Ensemble 29 June 2007, conductor Steve King. Instrumentation is flexible; the following is a guide: Part 1 - Violin 1, flute 1 (doubling piccolo if possible) oboe 1, Part 2 - Violin 2, flute 2, oboe 2 (doubling tenor recorder if possible), clarinet 1, trumpet Part 3 - Viola, clarinet 2, horn in F, Eb horn (2 players doubling harmonicas in C) Part 4 - Cello, bassoon Part 5 - Double bass, bass guitar (or Cello 2 - playing as if usual bass clef, but an octave lower where possible) SATB voices (doubling metal spoons and pitch pipes) Optional:Percussion (one player) - claves, glockenspiel (could be a child’s toy instrument such as an ‘Angel’ glockenspiel), mark tree, spring drum (thunder shaker), frame drum, musical jewelry box (or similar clockwork device).Should a glockenspiel not be available, a special part has been created which arranges the glockenspiel for two flutes, together with the other percussion music. This special part is not visible in the score. Keyboard instrument with sustaining capability - piano sound Instructions: Wind players can breathe ad lib. during any very long notes. From letter D onwards non-wind players who are not soloists blow across the top of small bottles. The pitches produced are not specified, but they should not be shrill. A soft breathy tone is preferred. About half of the voices play pairs of metal spoons (share printed part between two singers and anyone not holding the music holds metal spoons). Hold the spoons one in each hand, and strike the larger ends together. Spoons are struck together where shown with a large patterned note head. Strike rapidly where a tremolo sign is given. Four singers play pitch tuning pipes: 1 Soprano and 1 Alto play viola/cello pitch tuning pipes, 1 Tenor and 1 Bass play violin pitch tuning pipes Pitch pipe playing is indicated with square note heads - player should breathe ad lib. during very long notes. Where there are very long sung notes, the singers may stagger breathing ad lib. Spoken sounds are indicated with x note heads and with the text in italics. There are many pauses. These can be of varying duration, but on the whole they should not hold up the momentum of the piece, but be of sufficient duration to establish the solo and pitch pipe notes. Text: Carve stone Strike out Stay at home Or go far alone. Blocks of stone are laid Emblazoned with the signs of great deeds That signify our memory, Mem’ries of who we are. Careful carvings erode through time, Chiseled grooves smooth away. Families, they scatter and fade As generations age Descendants pass on memory time. Sense of our allegiance shifts when major faults are found, Feelings of belonging fall on shaky ground, But the sense of a place will remain.

String Ensemble - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1038231 Composed by Pierre Phalèse. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance. Score and parts. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #643162. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1038231). The dances still retain their freshness and charm today and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. The Pavane was a slow and dignified processional dance popular in Europe during the 16th century.
