Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869204 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. With Andante … 3. 2 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #3901. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869204). Program note: This is the third duo for violin and piano in my portfolio. The first one was written back when I was a student at the New England Conservatory of Music. It was my opus 3, The Sensuous Gargoyle (1975). My next one was a four-movement work entitled Tunesmith … An American Beauty Pageant (1993). It was commissioned by the Music Department at Lehigh University and premiered by two of its faculty members, Paul Chou and Paul Salerni. The violin has always been my favorite instrument. I have written twelve string quartets. For the violinist extraordinaire Irina Muresanu I wrote a big violin concerto in 2009, and a Partita for solo violin in 2011. I am slated to write another concerto, albeit a chamber one, for the Boston Classical Orchestra and violinist Sharon Roffman for a premiere in the fall of 2013. Last year I decided to write a third duo for violin and piano. I wanted to do something substantial and grandiose, hence the title Grand Duo, opus 151. Both Schubert and Lou Harrison have written works with the same title. So I thought, why not? The work is in five movements. 1. Misterioso … 2. Andante … 3. Allegro … Trio! 4. Largo … 5. Allegro … Enjoy! Audio link. Copy and paste the URL link into your browser.https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/grand-duo-opus-151-2012Video link: https://youtu.be/xThob_BQkDE

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869365 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 102 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #29655. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869365). Instrumentation: 2222-4321-2perc-pf-strings. When Andrea Bates, executive director of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra, first told me that the Brockton Symphony had commissioned me to write a new work to be premiered in 2003-2004, I immediately thought that since its music director, Jonathan Cohler, is a marvelous clarinetist I would be most attracted to the idea of writing a clarinet concerto for the occasion. Both Andrea and Jonathan were very receptive and enthusiastic about my idea. Andrea also told me that the commissioned work should somehow bring to attention the diverse cultures of the recent immigrants that have settled in the city of Brockton. So in the spring of 2003 I came down to Brockton for a meeting to which Andrea had invited representative members of these new communities. Three showed up: Maria Evora-Rosa, Rick Marrero and Fred Fontaine. Andrea had asked them to bring recordings of the music from their countries for me to listen to. There were CDs of very exciting and fun music from Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. After spending months listening to the music from these countries, all of them islands in the Atlantic or the Caribbean, I slowly began to get a sense of the beauty and the magic of the musical style and language of each place, each individual island. The end result is a three-movement work for clarinet and orchestra. Unlike the traditional Concerto form which is Fast-Slow-Fast, this work begins with something slow. A fast number follows as a second movement; and then, after a short, slow interlude, another fast number appears. The first movement is my adaptation of the morna of Cape Verde – slow, melancholy and sad. The diva of the morna is Cesaria Evora. Her singing brings to mind a fusion between the African blues and the Portuguese fado. The second movement is my take on the merengue as performed by the inimitable Xavier Cugat. It is dance music through and through!!! The third movement is also a dance number: the ever-popular music from Haiti, the reggae. And in order to give some contrast between the two dance numbers, I added a slow chorale for clarinet and strings that serves as a prelude before the dancing begins in the final movement. I envision the chorale as a little church music before the people go out and dance the night away. Throughout the entire work, the solo clarinet is the principal voice … singing, dancing, and cavorting!!! Gotta dance!!! Have fun and enjoy the music!!! I surely did as I was working on it ….

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869351 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 81 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #15869. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869351). Instrumentation: 3232-4331-timp-2perc-strings. When I received the invitation from Jonathan Cohler to write a Concerto for Orchestra for the Brockton Symphony, I immediately thought of all the composers who wrote works inspired by Bartok’s seminal work of the same title: Roger Sessions, Elliott Carter, Michael Tippett, Witold Lutoslawski, Joan Tower and, most recently, Jennifer Higdon. My Concerto for Orchestra, opus 111, is in five movements. It will be heard without pause between movements. I. Largo … Misterioso! II. Allegro con moto … Evidence!!! III. Adagio … Epistrophy! IV. Andante … In Walked Bud! V. Presto … Rhythm-a-ning!!! My initial idea for the Concerto was contrast - contrast between the timbres and colors that the various sections in an orchestra provide. For example, the woodwinds would provide a sharp contrast against the brass; the percussion section against the strings, etc. I also was interested in writing a work where each movement would flow into the next without pause – thus providing another form of contrast, that of tempi and mood change. A third form of contrast would be the different styles and forms of music that I would come up with. And I had a lot of fun conjuring up the many possible scenarios and orchestral tableaux. I actually started with the second movement: the Allegro con moto. I wanted something that had a nice surging quality that the whole orchestra could jump into. When I finished that, I thought perhaps it would be too intense for the opening of the work. I thought, maybe I should begin with something slower, more brooding in nature before the explosive stuff. I noticed that Carter’s Concerto began with a slow Introduction. It had a title: Misterioso. Being an avid fan of Thelonious Monk, aka Thelonious Sphere Monk, Misterioso brought to mind a Monk composition of the same title. That epiphany gave me the idea of naming each of the five movements after a Monk tune. Monk’s Misterioso is a blues with an insistent theme of 8th note patterns of rising 6ths; which has nothing to do with my first movement. My Misterioso features a solo for the bass clarinet in the midst of a shimmering atmosphere that is punctuated by accents in the bass. They are both mysterious, but divergently opposed in mood and substance. Monk’s Evidence is a tune with jabs and punches, irregularly placed within the measure – not unlike what I did in the second movement. This movement is perhaps the most Monk-ish of all. Monk’s Epistrophy is a tune constructed with a four-note pattern that is angular and twisted. I wrote a solemn brass choir movement that is an epistle in nature, a sermon of sorts. The title of Monk’s In Walked Bud refers, of course, to the amazing pianist Bud Powell. I took the word walk and translated it into an andante. What resulted was a silly, but jolly movement featuring the woodwinds. I wanted to end the work with a fast and furious finale. Inspired by the word rhythm in Monk’s Rhythm-a-ning, I began the last movement with a solo for the percussion section – timpani, tom-toms, bass drum!!! The orchestra eventually joins in the mayhem, breaking into a scherzo-like frenzy. It ends with a big bang!!! Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/concerto-for-orchestra-opus-111-2005

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869642). I saw an obituary in the New York Times entitled Overlooked No More: Claude Cahun, Whose Photographs Explored Gender and Sexuality. I was so fascinated by the article that I went and purchased a book of her poems and writings. Within it I found a series of poems under the subtile of Délectations Moroses that were truly fantastic. A year ago I wrote a work for soprano and string quartet titled Gaspard de la Nuit on a set of poems by Aloysius Bertrand. Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit is for solo piano, a set of tone poems inspired by the poems of the same A. Bertrand. I enjoyed my Gaspard so much that I wanted to write another work for soprano and string quartet, this time using these fascinating poems by Claude Cahun. The work is in seven movements.1. Allegro (de l'oubli)2. Largo (de l'oubli)3. Allegro con moto (d'un enfant difficile)4. Moderato (de l'amour)5. Moderato (de l'art)6. Allegro (Vocation)7. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869594). I have always admired Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit for solo piano. When I found the poems by Aloysius Bertrand that inspired his work, I immediately thought instead of tone poems like Ravel's I would do the right thing and set the poems to music. My work for soprano and string quartet is also titled Gaspard de la Nuit, albeit sung ... in French, of course. I chose five from a huge collection of fantastic, macabre and bizarre scenarios.1. A little story about this piece In my early teens I dreamed in my sleep that I met a very nice gentleman, in a beautiful garden. At the time I did not now that the man in my dream was my „genetic Grandpa himself, I had never seen a picture from him, only many years later after this dream. Now back to the Dream. Grandpa toke me from the garden to a House full of sculptures and art work. There was also a room with 3 great pianos, sat to perform on 3 different stages. Family life size portraits where hanging on a corridor. Another room was full of swords and ancient family weapons. In the end of the dream a dangerous Entity approached the house, Grandpa disappears and I had to leave the place in a hurry without being noticed. I climbed up the house and went hiding on the celling. I could than see a middle aged, middle-Lower class lady coming in the House, she was very stiff, all dressed in black like a widow. It was a very weary feeling, I woke up to never forget this dream. About 20 years later I was in that garden. It was really abandoned and I spend much of my time hanging there, I wrote a lot of music in this garden. I knew about The owner of this garden, he was living not so far away from me. Curious I decided to visit him. He leaved in the house that I dreamed of and he was actually my Father but I did not know that he was my Father and either did he knew about me being his son. He died shortly after we met. His name was Pedro Augusto Franco Dos Anjos Teixeira and my Grandpa was Artur Gaspar Dos Anjos Teixeira. Thanks to Claudia Eppelt for the all the Love and cover design. Gareth Jones, University of Calgary, 28 Janaury, 2011Première of the version for violin and 17 instruments: Frédéric Moisan, violin Orchestre 21 cond. Paolo Bellomio, Unveristy of Montreal, Canada, 2 March 2012Preface:In the early 1890s, Debussy composed the opening of a lyrical piece in E major for violin and piano, perhaps as a shorter companion piece for the violin Nocturne he was planning for the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. After Debussy’s death in 1918, his second wife Emma often gave away sketch pages to performers or composers as memorials to her beloved husband , and this particular page was given to the Cuban born pianist and composer Joaquin Nin (1879-1949). It came up for sale in the catalogue of the British antiquarian dealer Lisa Cox in 2010 and although it might possibly be an early song for contralto and piano, the more dynamic idea in bar 12 strongly suggests the violin, especially as it begins on an open D string. Moreover, there is no text and in pieces of this length, Debussy usually wrote at least one word in, if only to remind himself where he had got to in any song. So my starting point was a complete 12-bar melody gently undulating in the violin’s lowest register over a sensual accompaniment, rising to a climax in bar 12 and giving me a contrasting idea that I could use as a link between sections and in the cadenza. As the B section (bars 14-26) derives directly from Debussy’s opening theme by metamorphosis, my own additions were restricted to the central section (bars 27-57) - comprising a new scherzando idea (C) and the more lyrical D (bars 36-46). C returns at bar 47, followed by the opening sections in reverse order, so that the Sérénade begins and ends with Debussy’s material and is cast in arch form (ABCDCBA). Robert OrledgeBrighton, 19 June 2019Robert Orledge was born in Bath in 1948 and educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he gained his doctorate for his study of the composer Charles Kœchlin in 1973. Between 1971 and 1991 He rose from Lecturer to Professor in the Music Department of the University of Liverpool, publishing books on Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Charles Kœchlin and Erik Satie, as well as numerous articles, editions and reviews. As a historical musicologist, Professor Orledge specialized in the way composers composed, ,and since taking early retirement in 2004, he has concentrated on completing and orchestrating Debussy’s unfinished works, and especially his theatre projects. His completion of Debussy’s opera The Fall of the House of Usher (1908-17) was successfully premiered at the Bregenz Opera Festival in Austria in August 2006 and has since been performed in America, Portugal Germany and Holland, as well as being broadcast throughout Europe. A DVD of the Bregenz premier is available on Capriccio 93517, produced by Phylida Lloyd and conducted by Lawrence Foster. His completion of the Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence (1914) was also premiered in 2006 in Los Angeles and ot.

Instrumentation: 2222-2200-timp-stringsSteve Laven, cellist with the Boston Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, contacted me a month ago and asked if I would be interested in writing a work to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. I said, Sure!!! He said it would be nice if I would consider a concerto grosso in which the principal players of the orchestra would each get a feature. I agreed that that would be a fine idea. So, on June 18th, 2017, I started working on it. And since I am on summer vacation from teaching I was able to finished the 557-measure work on July 2nd, fifteen days after I started. In 2018 just before I made plans to get the work recorded I made some revisions. One major change was that I cut the fourth movement out completely. It is now a mere 482 measures long. The work is now in three movements. 1. Introduction; Allegro 2. Presto 3. Thomas Oboe Lee #2071135. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869428). Instrumentation: oboe, english horn, 2 french horns, and strings. I met Sharon Roffman in the fall of 2011 when maestro Steven Lipsitt and the Boston Classical Orchestra premiered my Symphony No. 8 … The City of Light at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. Sharon was the featured concerto soloist on the same program. She was an electrifying soloist in concertos by Mozart and Haydn, respectively. She wowed every one with her chops and musicality! A year later I went to hear Sharon and the BCO again, and this time I said to Steven Lipsitt that I want to write a concerto for Sharon. He thought it was great idea, and so did she. The title Serenade Rondo has the same acronym as Sharon Roffman. So in this case, the form precedes the composition. Originally I had planned to compose the concerto in the usual three-movement format. And I thought I was going to make the last movement a rondo, something in the usual ABACA thing. But as I proceeded with the composition, I realized that the work was moving in such a way that the whole thing could be conceived of as a rondo. Ultimately Serenade Rondo ended up in this form: ABACDAAudio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/serenade-rondo-2013Video link: https://youtu.be/4UPHQlqVNp8

Instrumentation: 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 English horn, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns, timpani and strings.Program note: In the year 2010, my wife Kristin Beckwith and I went to Paris twice, the first time in May and the second time in December right after Christmas. The weather was magnificent in May. Our friends Seph and Roger met us there. Being long-time veterans of Paris, they took us all over the city: Le Marais, the Left Bank, Montmartre, Sacré Coeur, Père LaChaise cemetery, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Notre Dame cathedral, Eiffel Tower, the flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, the canal at Saint Martin, etc. Since the weather was so great we basically stayed outside the entire two weeks. My wife Kris said that we had to return next again to Paris to go inside the museums. So we did. The weather in Paris after Christmas was very damp and chilly. So we did indoor activities: Le Louvre, Musée D’Orsay, Palais Garnier, etc. We even attended a beautiful performance of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet at L’Opéra Bastille. I should also mention that on both occasions I met up with a former student of mine from Berklee, Joe Makholm. He makes a living in Paris playing jazz piano. Joe got us a gig at the Swan Bar in Montparnasse. On the first occasion we did it as a trio with a French bass player. I played flute. On the second occasion, we did it as a duo. Playing jazz in Paris? You can’t beat that!!! Early this year, Steven Lipsitt and I had a chat about my writing a new work for the Boston Classical Orchestra. My last work for the BCO was a piano concerto with Robert Levin as soloist. I told Steven that this time I wanted to write a symphony. He said, Sure. Go ahead. I told him it would be about Paris. He said he would put Mozart’s Paris Symphony on the same program. I said, Fabulous! Symphony No. 8 … City of Light (2011) is in five movements. 1. La Seine Presto, Moderato 2. Basilique du Sacré-Coeur Largo 3. Palais Garnier Allegro, Trio 4. Avenue des Champs-Élysées Allegro 5. Musée du Louvre Largo, Moderato This work is dedicated to my wife and muse, Kristin Beckwith. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869354). Instrumentation: solo flute & 2222-2221-timp-2perc-strings. Program note: I lived in São Paulo, Brazil, during my teenage years, from 1959 to 1966. Consequently, the samba and the bossa nova are forever engraved into my heart. So, when Larry Tamburri, Executive Director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, proposed that I write a flute concerto for Bart Feller, principal flutist of the NJSO, he (Larry) thought it would be most appropriate if I wrote something inspired by my musical experiences in Brazil. The result is Flauta Carioca, literally meaning, flute in the manner of the people of Rio de Janeiro. The work is in three movements. The first is a chôro, an instrumental ensemble music that features a soloist that is often virtuosic when it is fast, and lyrical when it is slow. The second movement is a bossa nova. It features Bart on the alto flute and the music is very luscious and sexy. The listener can fantasize about Rio and the beach at Ipanema. The last movement begins with a slow introduction, a pastorale. Without a break, a forró enters in the strings, followed immediately by the percussion. Forró is party music, and this last movement is all about dancing. As a matter of fact, Bart wants to party all night ... The evening finally ends when someone turns the light out!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/flauta-carioca-2000.

I go to Rome every year during my winter break from teaching. My favorite statue in the Galleria Borghese is Bernini's Apollo and Daphne. It is amazingly alive and beautiful. When the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston asked me to write a work for string orchestra, I immediately thought of the fabulous Apollon Musagète by Stravinsky. Wouldn't it be fun to write a companion piece to the Stravinsky and call it Daphne? And since the Stravinsky Apollo is a ballet, my Daphne would be one as well, although an imaginary one. Daphne is in three sections. 1. Moderato ... Apollo struts around at a party, flirting with the nymphs and then suddenly he notices Daphne. He falls in love immediately. 2. Fuga ... Unnerved by Apollo's attention, Daphne flees. Apollo chases after her. 3. Largo ... Apollo catches up to Daphne and declares his love for her. She struggled to free herself from him and calls for help. To save Daphne from Apollo, her father Ladon, the river god, transforms Daphne into a laurel tree. Curtain.Audio link. Oboe Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983174 Composed by Craig Wadley. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Individual part. 5 pages. Wadley Publications #4980645. Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983174). The title of Sonar’s Riddle is an anagram of Dr. Daniel Ross, and stands as a tribute to a musician known for both his kindness and humor. Dr. Daniel F. Ross (1944-2019) was a Professor of Music at Arkansas State University, where he taught the double reed studio from 1968 to 2018. During his illustrious career, he became known as not only a world-class musician, but an innovator in the field of reed-making with his Ross Gouging Machine. As a performer, he served as Principal Oboist with the Arkansas Symphony and performed with the North Arkansas Symphony, Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra, Tupelo Symphony, Delta Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Nashville Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, and the St. Louis Chamber Music Society. He was a frequent soloist with the Forum Sinfonia of Krakow, Poland, touring with them in the United Stated and Europe. He held the title of Visiting Professor of Oboe at the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland and has been a soloist with the St. Petersburg and Moscow Philharmonic orchestras in Russia. As a teacher, Dr. Ross stressed the importance of expression. For him, being a musician was an extension of being human. In order to make music, one must cross the threshold from producing technically accurate sounds into a mysterious and sometimes elusive realm of heart, love, compassion, gentleness, and joy. In Dan Ross’ studio, one learned that a musician capable of evoking strong emotions must first be a person of great character. Dan Ross excelled in all things musical, but more importantly, he was an excellent man. He may well be remembered as a great musician, a great performer and teacher, or as an innovator in the art of reed making. But his true legacy lies in the hearts that he touched and the lives that he molded. I count myself fortunate to have been one of many. Sonar’s Riddle is a brief musical portrait of Dr. Dan Ross, attempting to capture the essence of his kind spirit and boundless humor.

Thomas Oboe Lee #15877. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869357). Instrumentation: 2222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-pf-strings. Program note: First of all, a huge embrace for Max Hobart who has been so very supportive by promoting and premiering new works for the orchestra. Since 1991, I have written three works for Max and the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston. Symphony No. 4 ... War and Peace is my fourth contribution and this work is dedicated to Max. A year ago, John Finney and the University Chorale of Boston College premiered my Mass for the Holy Year 2000. It was a millennial commission by the Jesuit Institution for the community of Boston College. For that occasion I had originally planned to write a Mass whose texts would include both the Latin from the Ordinary of the Mass - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus & Agnus Dei - and poems concerning the atrocities and senseless killing in warfare during the last century. However, as it turned out, the poems I chose ended up reflecting the Latin text, which is all about faith and redemption. But I still wanted to write an anti-war symphony. When I approached Max with this idea, he was very excited. Initially he was a little concerned that I might want to use the Tolstoy novel as my inspiration. I assured him that it would not be a four-hour symphony. In order to convey a political message through a symphonic work, texts set as songs are the most direct way. For this symphony, I have narrowed my focus to poems written by veterans of the First World War - some euphemistically call it the Great War. The first poem by Rupert Brooke, The Soldier, has an uneasy, patriotic cheerfulness to its message. The second poem by Wilfred Owen, Dulce et decorum est, is a more realistic view of warfare. Dying for one's own country is not so cool when the dead and the dying are staring at your face!!! The third and last poem by Ivor Gurney, To his love, reflects on the aftermath of war: peace, but at what cost!!! Rupert Brooke (1887 - 1915) died on a naval expedition near the Greek island of Gallipoli. He died of blood poisoning. Wilfred Owen (1893 - 1918) was wounded three times in France in the spring of 1917 and was sent back to England to recuperate. He returned to the Front, and was killed on November 4, 1918, just a few days before the Armistice was signed. Ivor Gurney (1890 - 1937), a composer as well, was acutely sensitive to the horrors of the war and, after being wounded and gassed in 1917, he was sent back home to a mental hospital. He died twenty years later without ever recovering from the traumas of war.Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/symphony-no-4-war-and-peace-2001

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869355). Instrumentation: solo alto saxophone & 2222-4231-perc-drumset-strings. Program note. Maestro Max Hobart called me in the spring of 2009 and told me to check out this young jazz phenom on the saxophone named Grace Kelly. I said OK, that’s cool. That summer we went to the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square to hear her play with her band, and I was duly impressed by her musicality, soulfulness and chops. Max asked if I would be interested in writing a concerto for her and the Wellesley Symphony. I said, Sure. It sounds like a great idea. One of the most cherished jazz records in my vast collection is the collaboration between Stan Getz and Eddie Sauter entitled Focus. Eddie, who used to be an arranger for the Benny Goodman Band in the forties, went on to create the Sauter Finegan Band in the early fifties. The band was one of the first to include the piccolo, oboe, bassoon, harp, celesta, French horn, tuba, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, timpani, and other unusual symphonic instruments in the standard big band format of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section of piano, bass and drum set. On the album Focus Eddie Sauter composed seven tracks of music for string orchestra and rhythm section. Stan Getz did not have a written part - he just improvised over the written music. If you are not familiar with this recording, then you will do yourself a huge favor if you go find it and add it to your own CD collection. The music is phenomenal and Stan is on top of his game, soaring above the strings with endless melodic inventions, flights of imagination and whimsy! It is one of those desert island CDs one should not be without. When I emailed Grace about this project and mentioned Stan Getz’s Focus, she said, It’s one of my favorite albums. So, we got off on a positive note immediately. My work, Focus on Grace … Concerto for Jazz Saxophone and Orchestra, is very much inspired both by the Stan Getz album and by the performances I heard of Grace and her band. The first movement is based on a funk groove in D minor: Grace’s part is initially written-out but she improvises freely in the coda. The second movement is a boss nova: as in the Stan Getz album, Grace does not have a written part but improvises over a set of chord changes provided by the orchestra. The third and last movement is an Afro-Cuban groove in six-eight: Grace has a written melody at first but soon launches into improvisation on a 12-bar blues in F. She ends the concerto in a free cadenza to show off her virtuosity and saxophone chops. ENJOY!!!

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869215 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 94 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #2016287. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869215). During the spring of the Millennial year 2000, music director John Finney and the Boston College University Chorale premiered my Mass for the Holy Year 2000 for chorus and orchestra in Trinity Chapel at Boston College. It was a large work, close to an hour long in duration. It was a momentous occasion and I was extremely pleased with the performance by John and the BC University Chorale. Ten years later in anticipation of the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Boston College, I decided that I wanted to write another choral work for the BC Chorale. This time the subject would be something directly connected to the Jesuit identity of Boston College. I chose for text the poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J. (1844-1889). This Manley Hopkins project would come in two parts. Part One would be a private uttering of faith in God, and Part Two would be a public declamation of the same topic. The private utterance would be in a chamber setting. I decided on a song cycle setting for soprano and piano. The public declamation would be the choral work with orchestra for the Boston College University Chorale. 1. Part The First … THOU mastering me God! (2010) for soprano and piano The ten poems for this song cycle came from GMH's The Wreck of the Deutschland, Part the First. This 30-minute song cycle was premiered in Bapst Library on March 31, 2011. The performers were Megan Stapleton, soprano, and Diane Braun, piano. 2. God's Grandeur (2012) for SATB chorus and chamber orchestra. For this work I chose five poems by GMH. Pied Beauty God's Grandeur The Habit of Perfection Thou Art Indeed Just, Lord. Inversnaid Why did I choose GMH's work besides the fact that he was a Jesuit? I was very surprised and thrilled that his poems are so fanciful, imaginative and abstract in form and content for someone who lived in the 19th century. These abstract poetic qualities are the very things that a composer in the 20th and 21st centuries would find inspiring when they are seeking texts for musical settings. I did indeed find the sound and silences of GMH's words quite inspirational. Hearing music in those words came directly and quickly as I was working on the piece. I hope the audience will enjoy the work as much as I did when I was creating it.

Cello,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869492 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and part. 41 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #3030241. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869492). Program note. I saw Clare perform with the NEC Symphony Orchestra a couple of years ago in Jordan Hall. She played principle cello and had several solo features in the program. I was so impressed with her performance that I hired her to participate in several recordings of my music. She played cello in my string quartet, Sodium, my Octet in D, and my song cycle Alice. She is now a senior at NEC, and I decided that as a parting gift I would write a cello duet for her. The end result is Concerto Barocco for cello and piano. Concerto Barocco like the Bach dance suites is in six sections. 1. Allemande … Moderato 2. Courante … Moderato 3. Sarabande … Adagio 4. Gavotte … Moderato 5. Air … Adagio 6. Gigue … Allegro Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/concerto-barocco-2017-for-cello-and-pianoVideo link: https://youtu.be/iL-2pOEk-Ec

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.746748 Composed by Keith Terrett. Contemporary,World. 33 pages. Keith Terrett #3129265. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746748). ere at last is my ’’Elegy sentimentale’’ for orchestra, and my first original composition (opus 1), for full symphony orchestra.I hope it makes an excellent piece for amateur and professional orchestras alike; with some challenging and interesting string, woodwind and brass writing for all.I envisage the ’’Elegy’’ eventually making a good piece of film music, and in consequence any directors or producers looking for a movie theme; please feel free to contact me!Elegy Sentimenatle is a mournful & melancholic work, suited for performances on the concert platform.A Supreme Work of Art!The Elegy Sentimentale opens impressively. Keith Terrett plants a C deep in virgin soil; orchestrated brilliantly for bassoon, harp and delineated by pizzicato double basses this bass line is a tree of a forest; and we are at once held by the strength of the roots. The tonality is immediately clear, and there is a grand feeling of space and power in the wide layout of the score. A lone solo clarinet high in the tessitura accompanied by a solo cello with a counter subject state the opening eight bar theme which embodies the seeds of two ideas, which supplies the generating force for the slightly agitated Piu Mosso which follows. The counter subject given by the solo cello at the beginning is now reiterated by the plaintive voice of a solo oboe and a third motif makes an appearance in the solo clarinet; oboe and clarinet duet beautifully over arpeggiated rhythmic impulses in the harp. A new subject of an accompanying nature, derived from all the material thus far presented now comes off at a tangent on the strings cascading downwards and accompanying woodwind who, play the chief melodic subject while horns cry in anguish. This first section is then repeated; I found the whole experience spiritual, detached and wondering, intensified by the breath-taking stillness. Mr Terrett in the middle section that follows now uses his full orchestral forces; after a key change the emotional charge that follows is cataclysmic in its cry of anguish; the main theme is stated in a full dress orchestral tutti, which is then repeated. The music ebbs and flows with slight variations in the woodwind recalling the main ideas; at the very end high strings bring consolation and finally peace. Keith Terrett shows an admirable command of orchestration and melodic construction and combines these qualities with rare imagination and insight.Gerald Manning
