Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1358962 Composed by L.A. Rescala, R. Stewart, Pee Wee King, R.A. King. Arranged by Michael Maschmeier (ASCAP). 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Traditional. 99 pages. Warrior Musician LLC #943380. Published by Warrior Musician LLC (A0.1358962). Waltzing Throught the Mid-west is Grade 2.5-3.0. This waltz uses three official state songs for source material, Hush-a-bye Ma Baby (Missouri Waltz), Beautiful Ohio (Ohio Waltz) and the Tennessee Waltz. It has one foot in traditional entertainment aspects from Wind Band's history, and the other foot in modern choices in tempo, time signature changes (including two juxtaposed feels that will challenge even your best students), along with chordal changes that keep it from sounding 'dated.' I feature several low instruments, giving them the limelight at times and with three mallet instruments written into the score, your melodic percussion have plenty to do. This piece lays well in more than one part of your lconcert line-up, including as the feature piece. Der Tanz in der Dorfschenke | Mephisto Waltz No. 1 (Score) - Score Only

The program note that appears in the original printed score is noted here:There is a wedding feast in progress in the village inn, with music, dancing, carousing. Mephistopheles and Faust pass by, and Mephistopheles induces Faust to enter and take part in the festivities. Mephistopheles snatches the fiddle from the hands of a lethargic fiddler and draws from it indescribably seductive and intoxicating strains. The amorous Faust whirls about with a full-blooded village beauty in a wild dance; they waltz in mad abandon out of the room, into the open, away into the woods. The sounds of the fiddle grow softer and softer, and the nightingale warbled his love-laden song. Mephisto Waltz No. 1 is paired with a work preceding it, Midnight Procession (Der Nächtliche Zug), however this piece is not as widely performed. Liszt later transcribed the waltz into a piano duet and a virtuosic solo piano work. Each of these versions were written around the same time, roughly 1859-62. The orchestral version also has an alternate ending, which is softer and fades away. This arrangement features both endings. This work was then followed by three more Mephisto Waltzes. No. 2 was also written as both an orchestral and piano work, while Nos. 3 and 4 were for piano only. Of the four, the first is the most popular, although the third is also praised as highly musically. Instead of opening with a traditional overture, the 1945 musical score to Carousel begins with a 8 minute musical waltz suite titled “The Carousel Waltz.†Staged by Rouben Mamoulian and choreographed by Agnes de Mille, the wordless ballet sets the scene for Carousel with characters interacting at the bustling fair, all set to Rodgers’ sweeping waltzes.  This arrangement is for Symphony orchestra, 2121. 2231. Percussion, Harp and Strings. A full score and all parts are included and this is the complete composition as heard in the John Wilson orchestra recording. It makes an excellent concert item, suitable for a variety of programme themes. The Christmas Waltz

John Ivor Holland #1047381. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1469360). The Christmas Waltz is a Christmas song written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne for Frank Sinatra, who recorded it in 1954 as the B-side of a new recording of White Christmas. Cahn recalls, One day during a very hot spell in Los Angeles the phone rang and it was Jule Styne to say, 'Frank wants a Christmas song.' Cahn resisted. Jule, we're not going to write any Christmas song. After Irving Berlin's 'White Christmas'? The idea's just ridiculous. Styne was emphatic, however. 'Frank wants a Christmas song.' The two met in Styne's apartment to begin work on the project, and Cahn asked the composer, 'Hey, Jule, has there ever been a Christmas waltz?' He said no. I said, 'Play that waltz of yours.' He did so, and Cahn began work on the lyrics of The Christmas Waltz, which many other artists have also recorded, including Doris Day, Peggy Lee, Bing Crosby, Natalie Cole, The Carpenters and many more. This arrangement has been created for concert band from the jazz ensemble version by John Berry.
