Une ?uvre de piano solo écrite en 1996 par le très apprécié compositeur milanais. Einaudi écrit L'idée de Le Onde était d'écrire quelque chose inspiré du roman de Virginia Woolf The Waves. J'étais particulièrement intrigué par la forme du roman, complexe et intéressante, certaines parties étant écrites en italique et d'autre en texte normal. Les parties en italique sont comme une cadence courant à travers l'oeuvre. Le livre est une description de ce que les gens voient durant une journée, en commençant par la lumière de l'aurore et en finissant par la tombée de la nuit. Chaque fois que les chapitres en italiques reviennent, vous voyez un changement de la lumière sur ce qui arrive sur le rivage. Il commença à écrire tous les morceaux de Le Onde inspiré par cette idée, mais il atteignit un point où il sentit qu'il y avait toujours un morceau manquant dans l'image d'ensemble. J'ai dis oui, il manque Le Onde , qui avait dans son ouverture la cadence d'une vague. L'idée était que la musique coule et qu'elle se développe d'elle-même, de l'arpège d'ouverture, comme quand vous voyez une onde se développant dans son espace, elle se développe parce qu'elle le doit.
