Bernhard Heiden (1910 - 2000) was a German conductor composer and music teacher who settled in the United States in 1935. He started composing pieces at the age of 6 and studied Piano Clarinet and Violin from an early age. Much of his music is for either chamber groups or solo wind or string instruments with Piano. His Sonatina For Clarinet And Piano is one of this most frequently played works. It is written in three movements: Con Moto Andante and Vivace.

Arranged for Clarinet and Piano-Taking inspiration from Jascha Heifetz masterful transcription of George Gershiwns wonderfully original Three Preludes Charles Neidich has created a work that functions as a real duet between the clarinet and piano. Rather than simplytranspose the Heifetz violin part Neidich adapted the work to fit the clarinet taking what works well and changing other parts often returning to Gershwins original to fit the character of the clarinet. Composed in 1956 by Bohuslav Martinu the Sonatina for Bb Clarinet and Piano is a neo-classical piece. This work to be played as a single movement has been written in three different sections: Moderato Andante and Poco Allegro. The rhythms are reminiscent of a Polka and a March and the piece contains unexpected syncopation. Being one of Bohuslav Martinu‘s later works it was written in New York after he spent some time in Paris. Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) was a Czech composer and a violinist. Even though he was interested in different style including Romanticism Jazz and Expressionism he wrote mainly neo-classical pieces including 16 symphonies 14 ballets and 15 operas.

This arrangement for clarinet expands the instrument?s solo repertoire with a work of the highest compositional calibre, representing a mature stage in Witold Lutoslawski?s oeuvre. Among clarinettists, the composer is known principally for the Dance Preludes, which appear both on concert bills and also on the programmes of competitions and auditions.
