Following the composition of Harold En Italie for Viola and orchestra in 1834, Berlioz began work on the opera Benvenuto Cellini , which subsequently failed on its first performances at the Paris Opera in 1838. Berlioz withdrew the opera for substantial revision, and from some of the discharged material he later fashioned this Reverie Et Caprice (in versions both for Violin and orchestra and Violin and Piano). Dedicated to Berlioz's violinist friend Alexandre-Joseph Artot, the piece was quickly taken up by several celebrated violinists of the time, including David, Joachim and Wieniawski, and was played all over Europe. This new edition for Violin and Piano, by the musicologist and performer Neil Heyde, is based on the first edition of the score.

The Hungarian Dance Csárdás is the best known work by Vittorio Monti (1868-1922) an Ita - lian composer born in Naples, who worked extensively as a conductor and composer in Paris. Originally written for Violin, or Mandolin, with piano or orchestra accompaniment Csárdás was immediately selected by numerous virtuosos who adopted it as a showpiece. Nowadays, it is still widely heard for just about every instrumental combination from various solo instruments, particularly solo violin, to versions for many instrumental combinations from gypsy orchestras through to marching bands. We are proud to publish this fine solo guitar arrangement by the virtuoso Russian guitarist Dimitri Lavrentiev, who resides and teaches in Augsburg, Germany. / Guitare

9 Pieces for Solo Guitar and 1 Duet. Maria Linnemann was born in Amsterdam in 1947 and grew up in England. She attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying conducting, piano and violin. Later, inspired by the guitarist, viola player and painter, Martin Nicolai, she turned to the guitar. Since 1971 she has lived and worked in Germany as a musician, composer and pedagogue. She has travelled through many countries and lived and worked in China for five years. Many of her compositions, numbering around 500 to date, were written on these journeys, and include works for solo guitar, guitar duets and trios, songs and chamber music. Maria Linnemann?s music is loved and much played all over the world.
