Robert Sieving\'s arrangement of Allegro for Double String Orchestra by Antonio Vivaldi, RV593, originally a motet featuring the vocal setting of Psalm 69 for soprano, 2 oboes, 2 SATB choirs, and double string orchestra, provides the opportunity for two orchestras to perform in opposition and have a musical conversation through fugal writing. Sieving has maintained Vivaldi\'s writing and sound, as the two orchestras battle it out to be the reigning orchestra. Each orchestra and section have interesting parts, with string crossings, minimal shifting, stylistic Baroque bow use, and call and response sections or echo sections. Invite a neighboring orchestra to perform this wonderful double string piece or divide your orchestra in two groups. Par GANDER BERNHARD. fourchanniballads by Bernhard Gander is an 11-minute work for orchestra scored for: 2Ob, EHn, 2BCl, CbCl, 2Bsn, Cbsn – 3Hn, 3Tpt, Tbn, BTbn, CbTbn, Tba – 3Perc – Str(12.12.12.8.6). It is influenced by riff-accentuated heavy metal and focuses on the themes of the downfall of the individual through the supremacy of masses, power, politics and greed. Commissioned by Westdeutscher Rundfunk (West German Broadcasting), the work was premiered on 4 May 2015 by the WDR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer at the Cologne Philharmony. Par TYSHAWN SOREY. Tyshawn Sorey\'s For George Lewis draws inspiration from The Will to Adorn, a dense work for chamber orchestra by the composers friend, collaborator and mentor George Lewis. Where Lewis\'s score is frenetic, however, Sorey\'s enters into a meditative stasis for most of its 51-minute duration, slowly accumulating and breaking down different sonorities of harmony and colour. Alarm Will Sound, for whom the piece was composed, gave the world premiere in November 2019 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, conducted by Alan Pierson, who also worked closely with the composer to edit this score. Benjamin said that the piece attempts “to conjure a trace of the energy, humour, and spirit” of Knussen. It is varied and dynamic across its unbroken 18-minute span – skittish lines play against still, suspended ones – and full of star turns for its various instrumental protagonists. Par REIMANN ARIBERT. Aribert Reimann’s ‘Trilogie lyrique’ is based on three plays by Maurice Maeterlinck: In L’ Intruse, a family is sitting at the table with their blind grandfather. They are waiting for the doctor to arrive and tend to his daughter who is lying ill in bed after having given birth: her new-born son has not yet made a single sound. The old man senses that something is wrong due to the uneasy atmosphere in the room. ‘Who is sitting in our midst?’ he asks. He is the only one who can see the presence of death. Intérieur: Once again a family is gathered round the table in the evening, but this time we observe the action from outside, looking through the window with the grandfather and a stranger: no sound can be heard. Outside the house, the stranger reports that the eldest daughter has drowned and that he has pulled her out of the river. Although the corpse is already being carried through the village to the family, the grandfather cannot bring himself to destroy this idyll. La Mort de Tintagiles: The young Tintagiles is told a story about a mysterious castle and the aged queen who has all potential heirs to the throne murdered. His siblings sense that Tintagiles has been summoned to the castle to be murdered, but nobody openly expresses this fact. Haydn Symphony No.69 in C major (Laudon) (Hob.I:69) (Full Score) Letters of the composer have come down to us only on a few of Haydn’s symphonies, amongst them the “Laudon” Symphony Hob. I:69. In one of these letters, Haydn agrees to the publisher’s suggestion to name the symphony after the widely known and favoured general Gideon Ernst von Laudon (1717-1790). By using this name, both composer and publisher hoped to increase the commercial success of the work which possibly deserved a military eponym considering its instrumentation with timpani and trumpets. Also, the symphony requires two bassoons, but no flutes, corresponding with the available musicians at the court of Esterházy between 1775 and 1776.
