Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos series contains 153 progressive piano pieces published across six volumes by Editio Musica Budapest. The series, which was written between 1926 and 1939, starts with very easy beginner etudes and progresses to difficult advanced technical displays, and remains an essential part of modern piano lessons and education.
The word Mikrokosmos may be interpreted as a series of pieces in many different styles, representing a small world. Or it may be interpreted as world of the little ones, the children.

Par MARTON KEREKFY. Introduction and Dance exploits the alto saxophone's characteristic sound and virtuosity. It starts with a slow, nascent music, which gives way to a very fast dance with aksak rhythm in an asymmetrically segmented 8/16 meter. The work was commissioned by and is dedicated to saxophonist Levente Puskás and pianist Judit Váradi, who premiered it in September 2020 in the Hungarian Radio, and then first performed in concert in November that year. Márton Kerékfy (b. 1981) studied musicology and composition at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (2000-2007) and received his PhD in musicology (2015) from the same institution. In 2006 he spent one semester on an Erasmus Grant at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Aulos to a certain degree continues Orbán's easy piano pieces for children, which he composed for Ágnes Lakos's piano tutor and which Editio Musica Budapest published in a separate volume entitled Enchanted Forest in 2011 (Z. 14742). Yet on this occasion the composer took on something which was both significantly different and more than his earlier pieces for children. On the one hand, he did not compose for beginners but for more advanced students who have studied piano for at least three years. On the other, he did not set developing the technique of piano playing as an aim, rather a systematic presentation of different polyphonic genres and compositional procedures (imitation, fugue, stretto, inversion, augmentation and diminution, double counterpoint, latent polyphony, double and triple fugue, cantus firmus technique, etc.). Orbán introduces his students to the mysteries of polyphony in a direct and practical manner, and thus actually makes them familiar with the art of composition.The educational use of the series is significantly increased by the fact that before each piece the composer presents and clarifies with demonstrative illustrations the polyphonic procedure he introduces. Orbán's explanations are not text-book-like at all, but are deliberately personal and subjective, full of lessons and individual associations taken from his practice as a composer. They were written in the same spirit as the works themselves - while they perfectly fulfil their educational purpose they are equally individual, witty and inspired pieces of music that are a joy to play. / Piano

Claude Debussy: Valse romantique - arranged for clarinet and piano by Zoltán Kocsis.Zoltán Kocsis, who died recently, was not just a phenomenal pianist. He is mourned also as a musical polymath, whose genius embraced the activities of a composer, conductor, editor, and not least instrumentalist and arranger. In the last capacity, he added some 150 works to the symphonic, chamber, song and piano repertoires. He gladly adapted music of the turn of the 20th century, as appears from his transcriptions of Richard Strauss, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Enescu, and above all Debussy. (Many of these are distributed by Editio Musica Budapest.)The arrangement pinpoints superbly the sensitive, almost ingratiating tunefulness of the Waltz, adding to the clarinetists repertoire a piece that plays well and is rewarding to perform. / Clarinette Et Piano

New edition based on the composer's manuscript-This edition of the three concert études is the first and only for which the composer's autograph has been taken into consideration. This allows Liszt's popular Piano cycle to be seen in the most authentic form available today. No closer information has emerged about the origins of the études which appeared in 1849. The autograph which contains all three studies in complete form with elaborated notation and furnished with performance markings appeared in a catalogue in the mid-1930s. But after it was bought by the French pianist François Lang (1908-1944) there were doubts about its whereabouts for several decades. So even Volume I/2 of thecomplete New Liszt Edition published by Editio Musica Budapest in 1971 could rest only on the notation of the first printed editions. The new version edited by Adrienne Kaczmarczyk that appears here pays close heed to the points where knowledge of the manuscript calls for alteration and addition. The autograph also used as the engraver's copy confirms an earlier suspicion. The widely used subtitles (1. Il lamento 2. La leggerezza and 3. Un sospiro) were thought to be alien to Liszt's approach and are now known not to originate from the composer. They were presumably dreamed up by a Paris publisher.
