A serene romance the work takes its title from a poem by George Meredith. The Violin's magical evocation of the lark's 'chirrup whistle slur and shake' as it soas above delicate orchestral textures demonstrates the composer's mastery of the pastoral idiom. This new edition of the version for Violin and Piano includes an introduction by Michael Kennedy and is produced with the support of RVW Ltd.

Completed in 1909 it is a vast work inspired by and based on four poems by Walt Whitman that Williams fashioned into a vast score containing some of his finest choral writing and a highlight of its era. It is non-ecclesiastical work and has a humanist agnostic viewpoint with a broad general theme of the Human Soul being a vessel cruising the oceans and seas of life. This suite for Soprano and Baritone Soli SATB chorus and originally Orchestra is a varied work that includes elements of Sea shanties and noble pomp in creating a majestic and evocativerepresentation of the sea.

Vaughan Williams’ Six Studies In English Folk-Song is a simple yet effective work which has been adapted here for Clarinet in B flat. This is the solo part only.

The Tuba Concerto was composed in 1953/4 after the London Symphony Orchestra invited Vaughan Williams to write a work for inclusion in the Orchestra’s fiftieth anniversary concert. The first performance was given by Philip Catelinet in the Royal Festival Hall London on 13th June 1954 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir John Barbirolli.The brass band arrangement is by Phillip Littlemore and is a welcome addition to the brass band repertoire.

Paperback-Vaughan Williams fist encountered the old English folk song Dives and Lazarus when he was 21 and here presents five variants that are in his own words 'not exact replicas of traditional tunes but rather reminiscences of various versions in my own collection and those of others'.The work was premiered in Carnegie Hall as part of the 1939 New York World's Fair and is a wonderful example of the sumptuous string textures and modal tonalities that have become the composer's trademarks.
