Par CAGE JOHN. Bacchanale, John Cage\'s first work to exploit his influential \'prepared piano\' technique, arose from a request for musical accompaniment by dancer Syvilla Fort. Intending to write her a percussion piece, Cage discovered that the theater in which the premiere was to take place was too small to accommodate any instruments beyond the piano already present, and instead adapted the piano into a palette of percussive sounds by placing small foreign objects among the strings. A new arrangement by guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan translates this six-minute work from the prepared piano to an even more novel instrumentation: a duo of prepared guitars, the sound of their vibrating strings transformed by the addition of alligator clips, washers, and slips of paper. This performing score (EP 6784a) includes detailed, illustrated instructions from the arranger on how to prepare the instruments. The original version of Bacchanale is now available for sale in John Cage\'s Prepared Piano Music 1940-47, Vol. 1 (EP 67886a). Par BARTOK BELA. Béla Bartók’s “For Children” is one of the best known pedagogical works for piano teachers of the twentieth century, second only perhaps to the same composer’s “Mikrokosmos”. It was based firmly on the huge number of folk songs he collected, recorded and studied with his colleague Zoltán Kodály. At the time, Bartók was offering something very new to piano teachers and their students. Siegfried Steinkogler became acquainted with “For Children” at the beginning of his guitar studies and, from them, learnt a great deal about melody and harmonisation. He has chosen 38 of the original 79 pieces to offer in arrangements for the guitar. They are presented with helpful fingerings, technical solutions and aids to familiarize the younger students with common notations. For beginners, ten of the pieces are played exclusively in the first position before a gently increasing level of difficulty helps the player broaden their skills. In these arrangements, Bartók’s ingenious teaching pieces will be as invaluable to guitarists as they have been to your pianists for over one hundred years./ Répertoire / 2 Guitares

La Sonatina canonica pour deux guitares opus 196 de Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) fut composée en 1961 pour le légendaire duo de guitares formé par Ida Presti (1924-1967) et Alexandre Lagoya (1929-1999). Ce fut le premier épisode d'une longue collaboration qui eut pour fruits des oeuvres d'une grande valeur. Conçus en forme de canon, les trois mouvements de la Sonatina représentent un hommage voilé à la musique pour clavecin d'inspiration hispanique de Domenico Scarlatti et sont restitués ici dans le texte original, respectant scrupuleusement les nombreux signes d'articulation et indications du compositeur présents dans les manuscrits. / 2 Guitares
