Commençant par un prélude déclamé par deux clarinettes, le train démarre effectivement très lentement puis accélère Vivace et emporte avec lui les voyageurs dans un tourbillon sans fin. Une pièce plutôt facile qui convient tout à fait aux petits orchestres d?harmonie. Mais les réalisations visibles comme les bâtiments et les infrastructures ne sont que des preuves de ce qui constitue son véritable c?ur : les personnes qui ont vécu dans la ville et ceux qui y vivent encore aujourd?hui. Le pouls de la ville, mis en mouvement par les battements de son c?ur, évolue avec le temps. Qui ne connaît pas ces images en accéléré, qui montrent des lignes vacillantes faites de lumières provenant de voitures, dans lesquelles les gens se rendent au travail tandis que d'autres se tiennent aux feux de circulation et se déplacent ensuite comme sur simple pression d'un bouton ? Ces lignes sont comme des artères, animées par un c?ur fort. Léonard de Vinci décrivait déjà les fleuves comme la circulation sanguine imaginaire de cette terre. Dans chaque ville, ce ne sont pas les rivières, mais les mouvements et le travail des personnes qui y habitent et y vivent. Cependant, le c?ur ne bat pas toujours régulièrement mais son rythme est influencé par la joie, la peur et toutes sortes d'autres choses. Chaque ville a son propre pouls. C'est également le cas dans la ville universitaire de Marburg, où des personnes de plus de 100 nations vivent aujourd'hui ensemble, dans une communauté cosmopolite et tolérante. Interestingly, in 1956 the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford, Illinois changed their original name from the Rockford Rangers after having heard the piece played by a different corps. The music emulates the sound of distant trumpets and soldiers marching, drawing closer to the listener bit by bit. As the music gains strength, the marching and trumpets get louder and after passing the audience, it slowly fades away as they disappear into the distance again.
