Acclaimed American composer Wallingford Riegger wrote Dance Rhythms in 1954 originally for orchestra but then adapted it himself for band. Noted for its light-hearted mood and energy it is an impressive study in rhythm andorchestration. This important work for band is available now again.

Score-Although beyond the capabilities of most student orchestras this tonal work was composed for didactic purposes. There is a certain amount of licence with harmony and counterpoint resulting in a style reminscent of Reger acomposer Schoenberg admired. The structure of the Suite is traditional with a large Overture followed by a slow movement and three dance movements - Menuett Gavotte and Gigue.

'I responded to this exciting but rather daunting commission by writing a very lively and I hope very accessible piece which I decided before I started composing should be full of tunes. I wrote it in memory of my dear friend Sheila MacCrindle who died in 1993... although this partita is in her memory it never occurred to me to make it gloomy or dirge-like; that is not how I remember her.' Concert Overture-The Hebrides Op.26   Concert Overture   The Hebrides the third in Bärenreiter’s series of critical editions of Mendelssohn’s great overtures is one of Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s most performed compositions.  Previously this work was only available in one composite version: the Julius Rietz edition from the 1860s.   The new Bärenreiter edition consist of two versions each containing additional material from further sources.   Version one the “Rome” version exists itself in two versions and has never beenpublished in a performing edition.  Version two the “London” version also exists in two versions one of which was published by Mendelssohn in 1835.   This pioneering edition documents the development of the composition and the various changes made by Mendelssohn.  The new edition offers orchestras for the first time the possibility to perform this famous work based on all known sources. This Orchestral score and instrumental parts have been arranged by Frank Naylor for school and amateur Orchestras. This set includes a conductor’s score and instrumental parts as well as Piano accompaniment elementary Violin Alto and Tenor Saxophone and 3rd Violin. With the composition of the Thunder and Lightning Polka Johann Strauss completed the elevation of the polka from an Eastern European peasant romp to a dance form embraced by Vienna’s most fashionable circles. The ‘Waltz King’ was also a prolific composer other dance music: gallops and polkas marches and quadrilles. His sparkling dazzling Thunder and Lightning quick polka has become such a favourite in therepertoire that it is played every year along with The Blue Danube in the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Day Concert. The programmatic scoring evokes elemental weather events through the extensive use of timpani and the clashing of cymbals szforzandi and dramatic accents. The piece ends with as much excitement and energy as it begins not flagging for a second.
