Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-5566 Original and Arrangements. Composed by Othmar Schoeck. Edited by Franz Hindermann. Arranged by Franz Hindermann. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. Arrangements for violoncello (EB 5566) and bassoon (EB 5567) are also available. Sonata; Romantic; Late-romantic. Score. 36 pages. Duration 15'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 5566. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-5566). ISBN 9790004164433. 9 x 12 inches. It is considered a milestone in the repertoire for bass clarinet: Othmar Schoeck's Sonata op. 41, composed in 1927/28 for the Swiss music patron and amateur clarinetist Werner Reinhart. In the tension area between late Romanticism and currents of New Music of the 1920s, Schoeck created a work of fascinating colorfulness, which even has jazz elements flashing up in the finale. This classic work is one of the most exciting, boldest instrumental works by the important song and opera composer. Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32078 Composed by Friedrich Schneider. Edited ...(+)
Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32078 Composed by Friedrich Schneider. Edited by Nick Pfefferkorn. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. Sonata; Romantic. Score. 76 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 32078. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-32078). ISBN 9790004186633. 9 x 12 inches. Friedrich Schneider is known today above all for his extensive oeuvre in the area of the oratorio. No less important, however, in addition to his symphonic work, is his group of works for piano and/or chamber music. His cello sonata in F major, with all four movements large in scale, was probably composed in 1831 for the daughter of the Cologne music patron, Dr. Erich Heinrich Verkenius. With its expressiveness, monumental structure, and post-Beethovenian sensuality, this sonata already seriously anticipates Romanticism. Our edition offers two solo parts: an unmarked original text as well as a version with fingerings and bowings by the Leipzig based cellist Jurnjakob Timm. $39.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

As in the earlier volumes, here too the range of notes for the stringed instruments does not extend beyond the first position, but the pieces vary in difficulty and in length, the easiest are playable after two years of serious study. The varied material includes works by not only German, Russian and French composers, but also some representatives of national romanticism. Consecutive works by the same composer can be performed as a suite. $26.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
| Suite for cello and string orchestra (1967) - Solo part and piano reduction Cello, Piano Fennica Gehrman
Violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-903-1 Composed by Victoria Yagling. Arra...(+)
Violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-903-1 Composed by Victoria Yagling. Arranged by Yuriy Leonovich. Classical, contemporary. Score and part. Fennica Gehrman #55011-903-1. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-903-1). ISBN 9790550119031. Victoria Yagling's Suite for Cello and String Orchestra (1967) is one of her first successes as a composer. The movement layout of the Suite is fast-slow-fast-slow. The first movement, Toccata, is a perpetual motion with a brisk tempo of 100 per dotted half. The Aria is reminiscent of Rachmaninov's Vocalise melody and Prokofiev's tonal language. This movement is the centerpiece of the Suite. The Humoresque is closely connected in style and motives to the March and Aria movements from Boris Tchaikovsky's Suite for Cello Solo. Mostly homophonic Finale plays with bitonality and contains several circle-of-fifth sequences.
This product is is the reduction for violoncello and piano by prof. Yuriy Leonovich. Orchestral material available on hire from the publisher. Stydy score with solo part is available for sale (ISMN 9790550116436).
Victoria Yagling (1946?2011) was born in Russia and lived in Finland since 1990. Her long career as a cellist served as an excellent accompaniment to the composition she began at an early age. For 11 years she was a cello student of Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory and Dmitry Kabalevsky and Tikhon Khrennikov taught her composition.
Yagling won the first prize in the Gaspar Cassadò Cello Competition and the following year the second prize in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition. Her solo engagements took her to countless countries. She has also taught at several international music courses and master classes and was often a jury member for international cello competitions.
Yagling left a profilic oeuvre, and the three cello concertos are her main works. Her other orchestral works include Finnish Notebook, Lyrical Preludes and the Suite for Cello and String Orchestra. She has also composed solo works (e.g. the Suite for Cello Solo No. 1 chosen as an obligatory piece for the 7th Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982), chamber works, including two string quartets, and vocal music. Her expressive, romantically orientated style is Russian in spirit and has grown out of the soil provided by Prokofiev and Shostakovich. $22.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.OB-5283-15). ISBN 9790004332832. 10 x 12.5 inches. Robert Schumann's Violoncello Concerto op. 129 can be regarded as the first great concerto for this instrument's repertoire. It is thus somewhat surprising that this work had an extremely problematic reception history at the outset.Schumann wrote the score in 1850, during his Dusseldorf years, but there was neither a concrete occasion nor a soloist for a world premiere. After its publication, more years elapsed before the world premiere. It was only towards the end of the 19th century that Schumann's Cello Concerto finally made its breakthrough as a repertoire piece. The Urtext edition is based on the original print of the parts and the piano reduction, which had still been supervised by Schumann. In addition, the autograph of the score was consulted for purposes of comparison. The internationally renowned soloist Heinrich Schiff took part in the preparation of the edition for violoncello and piano. His experiences have been incorporated into his arrangement of the solo part. With his comments, Schiff also provides valuable tips on the interpretation of the work.

Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32083 Urtext. Composed by Camillo Schum...(+)
Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32083 Urtext. Composed by Camillo Schumann. Edited by Maria Kliegel. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. With supplementary violoncello part marked by Maria Kliegel Sonata; Late-romantic. Score. 108 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 32083. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-32083). ISBN 9790004186299. 9 x 12 inches. There are many composers about whom it is believed, today, that they composed conservatively, or against the taste of their time. The question is also raised, today, which extract of this large amount of effective and high-quality music, unknown for the most part, should receive our attention; which of it is worth rediscovering or re-editing. Camillo Schumann is one of the most important representatives of these composers, but his works are still largely unknown today. He was born on 10 March 1872 in Konigstein, Saxony. His musical language combines the sound world of Brahms with the grand, late-romantic Liszt School. He wrote piano parts of incredible power and virtuosity, approaching the sounds of Rachmaninoff. His wonderfully individual melodic language makes these works a valuable testimony to a composer who never had his due recognition. The cello sonatas Opp. 59 (EB 32082) and 99 (EB 32083) are the first of three works for this combination. Op. 59 was composed around 1905/06, Op. 99 followed in 1932. Nothing is known so far of the circumstances of the composition of this work, including for whom it was composed. However, it is quite evident that Schumann wrote it, like most of his works, primarily for his own concerts and befriended musicians. The extensive entries in the piano part bear witness to a considerably practical approach. Crossed-out bars, notes added or crossed out in chords as well as a number of revisions of other kinds are more the rule than the exception. The composer's own fingerings written in the piano part also underline this assumption. The present edition contains two solo-parts each. One clean Urtext-part free of any additions from the editor and a second one with bowing marks and fingerings by Maria Kliegel who recorded both sonatas for the first time with the label Naxos. Both sonatas show evident resemblance to the works of this combination by Johannes Brahms and are therefore a must have for ambitious cellists.

Score. 60 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 32072. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-32072). ISBN 9790004186619. 9 x 12 inches. Eduard Franck's two Violoncello Sonatas opp. 6 and 42 were published in 1843 and 1882, respectively, thus, almost 40 years apart. Although no authentic manuscripts sources are extant, the sonatas were likely composed fairly close to the years of their publication. That for decades Eduard Franck was reluctant to publish some of his works is well known; this then led him, only a few years before his death, to pour out a cornucopia of new compositions, some of them composed decades earlier. With this new edition of the two sonatas we are offering an important addition to the field of romantic cello sonatas. $40.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-9406 Urtext. Composed by Joachim Raff. ...(+)
Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-9406 Urtext. Composed by Joachim Raff. Edited by Claus Kanngiesser. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. Sonata; Romantic. Score. 80 pages. Duration 27'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9406. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9406). ISBN 9790004188804. 9 x 12 inches. Raff's Cello Sonata op. 183 appeared in print in late 1873; at a time when Raff's success was at its zenith with Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5 as well as many chamber works. Little is known about the circumstances of its genesis and possible performances. Since Raff did not dedicate this sonata to any distinguished artist, unlike most of his other chamber works, it apparently lacked a drawing card for distribution. While Raff composed several well-known works for violin and piano, the present cello sonata is one of his few outstanding works for cello and piano. Incidentally, in the first edition, the score is headed for piano and cello, as was quite often the case in the 19th century, for instance also with Brahms's sonatas. This is also evident in the music: Cello and piano are equal partners that develop the musical material and are challenged both technically and artistically. This current edition contains an Urtext cello part as well as a part with markings by Claus Kanngiesser. In collaboration with the Joachim-Raff-Archiv Lachen (CH)
With a preface by Severin Kolb. Contains 2 cello parts. $38.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-9391 Urtext based on the Complete Edition Jean Sibelius Works (JSW). Composed by Jean Sibelius. Edited by Anna Pulkkis. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. Late-romantic; Early modern. Score. 28 pages. Duration 12'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9391. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9391). ISBN 9790004188651. 9 x 12 inches. Jean Sibelius composed far less music for the cello than for the violin. Malinconia (op. 20) - published in 1911 but composed in 1900 under the title Fantasia - remained his only opus-numbered work exclusively for cello and piano. The Fantasia for cello and piano, an early stage of Malinconia , was premiered at a soiree in the Solemnity Hall of the University of Helsinki on 12 March 1900 and was given positive press reviews: The work, which mainly drew attention with its logical and clear structure, begins with a powerful and substantial cello solo, to which the piano responds with a glimmering series of arpeggiated chords. At the end where the instruments unite in a harmonious, deeply emotional song, the harmonic impression they create is very bright and lovely. The autograph manuscript of Fantasia shows that Sibelius omitted a larger passage of music between the present bars 24 and 25 and that he made further revisions to the work, either before the publishing process or in the proofs he read in April 1911 for Breitkopf. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Cello and piano (Cello Part And Piano Score) - intermediate SKU: HL.49019221 Composed by George Goltermann. Edited by Fritz Zumkley. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. String Solo. Softcover. Op. 92/2. 12 pages. Schott Music #CB246. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019221). ISBN 9790001180672. UPC: 841886018136. 9.0x12.0x0.092 inches. Georg Goltermann (1824-1898) left a plethora of works for his instrument, including seven cello concertos which still play an important role in the cello literature of today. In addition, he composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Rooted entirely in the romantic spirit of their time with regard to style, they are relatively short pieces of medium difficulty. It is not least due to its melodic and harmonic catchiness that the rather easy Reverie in G minor Op. 92/2 enjoys great popularity both in lessons and in concerts. The expression marking 'Allegro appassionato' refers to the fundamental character of the piece which demands, in particular, an expressive vibrato rich in modulation. $13.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Brahms completed his Cello Sonata Op.99 during the productive summer of 1886. The first public performance took place in Vienna on 24 November of the same year. Robert Hausmann played the Cello part and the composer himself was his partner at the Piano. Even though the work was generally received positively it took some years until it was fully appreciated and gained its irrevocable place in the Cello repertoire.Of particular value to the editors were the two early performance editions of the Cello Sonata Op.99 by Hugo Becker and Carl Friedberg as well as by Julius Klengel. Both cellists Becker and Klengel had aconnection to Brahms who very much admired and trusted Becker's playing and who performed together with Klengel. This edition not only incorporates Becker's and Klengel's performance markings but also Hausmann's for whom the piece was written. As such the Barenreiter edition comes with a Cello part marked with fingering and bowing by the editors which are based on the practices of Brahms' contemporaries. We also provide an unmarked Urtext part.An important part of this edition is the extensive Preface. Firstly it informs about the work's origin early performances its publication as well as early reception. Truly remarkable is the unique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors take the premise that already a few decades after Brahms' death a widening gulf developed between the composer's expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. In a very concrete and practical way the editors summarize some of the key issues in understanding Brahms' notation with regard to rhythm and timing dynamics and accentuation dots and strokes slurring and non legato Piano pedalling and overholding Piano arpeggiation and dislocation String Instrument fingering String Instrument harmonics and vibrato. In this way the edition offers an exciting and often surprising insight into Romantic musical interpretation.- A pioneering Urtext edition.- With an unmarked Urtext part.- With a second part including fingering and bowing based on the practices of contemporaries of Brahms.- With

The first three movements of Johannes Brahms? E Minor Cello Sonata were composed in 1862 the last movement was written in 1865. During the first years of its performance the work was received with mixed enthusiasm. By the end of Brahms? life however it was widely performed and by the first decades of the 20th century it was firmly embedded in the repertoire of many distinguished cellists. It was notably Robert Hausmann?s advocacy of the work which seems to have contributed greatly to its promotion.Of particular value to the editors were the three early performance editions of the Cello Sonata Op.38 by Cornelius van Vliet andEdwin Hughes Hugo Becker and Carl Friedberg as well as Julius Klengel. The cellists? van Vliet Becker and Klengel?s fingering and bowing allows for a better understanding of their performance practice. Par DYSON GEORGE. The Cello Sonata by Sir George Dyson (1883?1964) is the most substantial of the composer?s earliest surviving works and is a welcome addition to the repertoire of romantic British cello music. Within Dyson?s small yet distinguished output, it merits recognition both as a significant instrumental score in its own right, and as a precursor of a corpus of scores expertly written for solo or ensemble strings. Evident throughout this work is Dyson?s appealing and characteristic strain of melody and harmony, both recognisably English and distinctly personal. / Date parution : 2021-11-03/ Répertoire / Violoncelle et Piano

Written in just two days in February 1849, Robert Schumann's Fantasy Pieces Op. 73 were first performed by his wife Clara and the clarinettist Johann Gottlieb Kotte. Initially entitled Soirée Pieces, the composer later had the works published under the name of Fantasy Pieces, thus establishing a connection with poetical aspects. The first edition published in July 1849 contained not only a clarinet part but also a violin and cello part. Since then, they have become an integral part of the Romantic repertoire for cello and piano. The pieces contained in this album encompass 300 years of French music ranging from the gamba music of the Baroque period to the impressionism of Debussy. While the technical difficulties encountered in these selections seldom go beyond the intermediate level the interpretation requires versatility from the performer. The seventeenth century compositions should be played with crisp articulation and an incisive rhythm. The romantic pieces require a rich full tone whereas the selections by Faure and Debussy should be treated with subtlety of phrasing and tonal refinement.

for Violoncello and Piano-Cesar Franck?s Sonata for Piano and Violin is one of the most treasured works in the Violin repertoire a masterpiece of cyclic form with a gracefulness and expressive force almost paradigmatic for the age of musical Romanticism. This work was composed in 1886 and was dedicated to the Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe.Franck?s friend the cellist Jules Desart was so impressed when he heard the Violin Sonata performed at the Société nationale de musique in Paris that he adapted the work for his instrument. This arrangement was first published in 1887 by inserting the Cello part into the Piano score of the original edition. For this purpose thePiano score had received a new cover and the publisher had expanded the title of the composition to ?Sonate pour Piano et Violon ou Violoncelle?. This version by the cellist Jules Delsart for Piano and Violoncello is the only arrangement of the work authorized by the composer and its first edition represents the main source for Bärenreiter?s new scholarly-critical publication. This Barenreiter edition also includes a separate movement ?Mélancolie? first published after Franck?s death in 1911 again for the same instrumentation Piano and Violin or Violoncello. This short piece is based on a solfège exercise and was written at the height of the composer?s creative powers at about the same time as his famous Violin sonata. The edition is rounded off by an informative text on the genesis and reception history of the two compositions (Ger/Fr/Eng) a complete list of sources editorial notes and a Critical Commentary (Eng).Pioneering new Urtext editionInformative text on the genesis and reception history of the two compositions (Ger/Fr/Eng)Detailed Critical Commentary (Eng)Also available:Sonata; Andantino quietoso Op.6; Mélancolie for Piano & Violin BA9425.Sonata arranged for Piano & Viola BA10918.Sonata in A major arranged for Piano & Flute BA8734
