String quartet SKU: HH.HH462-FSP Composed by Ming Wang. String Quartet. Full score and parts. Edition HH Music Publishers #HH462-FSP. Published by Edition HH Music Publishers (HH.HH462-FSP). ISBN 9790708146711. Cicada larvae live underground for years, creeping about slowly and peacefully in the darkness until that sudden, beautiful brief moment when, one warm, damp summer’s eve, they emerge, metamorphosed into a highly mobile life form. Gaily they dance in the sunshine, singing ardently to the trees in all their greenery --- but only for a short while, for, just as suddenly, they are gone. The same process repeats year upon year. The life cycle of this string quartet resembles that of the cicada. Initially, two embryonic cells remain hidden within dense, gloomy note-clusters; over time they evolve into buds, grow and then blossom. They appear for the first time in their adult form in the fast middle section, where they assume the shape of two very popular Chinese folk melodies, Jasmine and Old Six Blows, albeit in wholly chromaticized and defamiliarized variants. After their grand efflorescence, these forms gradually dissolve into transparent wisps of sound. $31.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Programme Note During the composition of my tenth string quartet a flower-name, host-tidlos, came to my mind - and it would not me leave again. [hosttidlos is actually autumn crocus in English, but the composer prefers harvest-timeless, to maintain some of the associations of the Danish flower-name, red.] The paradoxical union of a seasonal time (harvest) and no-time-at-all was a good fit to the sections of the work that I had composed at that time, and I decided to tentatively stick to that title for the work-in-progress, and now, having finished the piece, I can say that is is still a fitting title - and it stands. Enough about the title, I will go on to describe themusic, a somewhat more precarious project. My tenth string quartet is probably the most basic string quartet that I have composed: melodically - and in sound - it employs the naturally based overtones and undertones (perceived at major and minor, respectively), and rhythmically it is based on growth, on the principles of the Golden Section, and the structure itself contrasts abundance and exuberance with sections of immobility and contemplation. However, Melos, melody, is definitely the dominating aspect of my STRING QUARTET NO. 10: behind even the most rhythmically complex or pure sonoric sections lies a firm - if hidden - basis of melodic or polyphonic ideas. The work was composed in 2004-2005 for the Kroger Quartet. $40.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

(PESSON GERARD) Français Piano Quartet: piano, violin, viola,

| Dawn Flight (DUFOURT
HUGUES) Français String Quartet: 2 violins, viola,
cello [Sheet music] Lemoine, Henry

Yann Robin / Quatuor A Cordes

Demanding salon music for string quartet (with double-bass ad libitum) is provided by Wolfgang Birtel in his 'Latin Dances' with four titles which can be played individually or as a little suite. The first dance is the chorinho 'Não me toques' by Zequinha de Abreu (1880-1935) who not only wrote 'Tico Tico' but also other rousing pieces of music. Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) is considered to be the 'inventor' of the Brazilian tango and waltz: He titled the waltz, which follows as second title, 'Ingenious'. These rather unknown titles are followed by two absolute worldwide hits: 'Bolada de Aficionado' by A.G. Villoldo and then the everlasting beguine 'Bésame Mucho' by the Mexican composer Consuelo Velázques (1916-2005). Whether individually or as a 'four-pack' - the fingers will be twitching and the toes will be tingling for this music carries away musicians and audience alike. / Quatuor A Cordes

Par MARTINU BOHUSLAV. Bohuslav Martin (1890-1959) was a prolific Czech composer, writing many large scale works. The composer moved to Paris in 1923 where he began experimenting in a variety of composition styles. His String Trio was published in 1951. Martin himself was a violinist and many of his experiments in composing for solo instruments and small ensembles saw him write for his own instrument and for the familiar strings. String Trio is made up of two movements; 1) Allegro and 2) Poco moderato. With a typical performance lasting about 15 and a half minutes, the String Trio for Violin, Viola and Celloprovides advanced string players with an exciting, challenging and inspiring ensemble work, addressing a variety of musical features. Martin 's String Trio is essential to aspiring string ensembles./ Répertoire / Violon, Alto et Violoncelle

An informative preface and critical commentary by Ales Brezina and Ivan Straus (Cz / Ger / Engl / Fr) - A new practical edition at the forefront of Martinu scholarship - All existing sources consulted. The String Quartet no. 6 by Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) represents a distinct step on the journey which the composer characterised as his development from geometry to fantasy and for which the almost continuous use of the principle of developing variations restless harmonic development the pulsation of minute rhythmic values and inventive work with sound are characteristic. The quartet which was written in New York in the autumn of 1946 constitutes the beginning of the composer's later works in which moods freely overflow regardless of any predefined formal layout. The editors of the new edition (based on the composer's autograph) have carefully removed all of the problematic and somewhat arbitrary editorial intervention in the sole existing edition dating from 1950 (actually 1955).With its urtext edition of the 6th quartet Editio Bareneriter Praha has continued in its series of new publications of works by Bohuslav Martinu - quartets nos. 4 and 5 have already been published for this instrumental line-up.

Schnee - Ten Canons For Nine Instruments was composed by Hans Abrahamsen in 2006-08. Commissioned by Westdeutscher Rundfunk for 'Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik 2008' with support from Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and The Danish Arts Council. Dedicated to Harry Vogt and Ensemble Recherche. Programme Note: In the beginning of the 90s I arranged some of J.S. Bach’s canons for ensemble – in total seven single standing works from his entire life span. I became totally absorbed into this music and arranged them with the intention of the music being repeated many many times as a kind of minimal music. Obviously I didn’t know which durations Bach had in mind but by listening to his canons in this way a profound new moving world of circular time was opened to me.Depending on the perspective on these canons the music and its time can stand still or move either backwards or forwards. In my own work an ongoing idea has persisted of at some point writing a work consisting of a number of canonical movements that would explore this universe of time. And when I was offered the commission for Ensemble Recherche and Wittener Tage it felt as the right time to do this.In Schnee a few simple and fundamental musical questions are explored. What is a Vorsatz? And what is a Nachsatz? Can a phrase be answering? Or questioning? The guideline or rule for the canons is very simple: We start out with an answering Vorsatz followed by a questioning Nachsatz. Throughout the time of the piece these two are intertwined more and more as more and more dicht geführt canons until at the end they are interchanged. Now the question and then the answer. The two canons are identical like a painting in two versions but with different colors. And where the first one does not include the space the second one does as well as containing more
