With this arrangement it is possible to present the work in a performance space of limited size. Haydn's original orchestration is filled with vivid tone painting and this reduced version represents Haydn's score using accurate colors for the obligato melodies and appropriate instrumental voices for the colla parte passages. It follows the format and content of the critical edition by Carus (ed. W. Gersthofer) and may be used together with the other materials from Carus 51.990 (choral and vocal scores, string parts). Modern performances of Creation use sometimes 50-60 players. It is hoped that the present reduction will make this beautiful work available to smaller groups, smaller performance venues, and groups with smaller budgets. Score available separately - see item CA.5199000.

Franz Schubert's Mass in A-flat major: A work that time and again occupied the composer anew, with which he, in his words, strived towards the highest in art - and perhaps only wished to receive a court appointment in Vienna. His efforts to present a new, individual mass led, at any rate, to unconventional solutions (and an unusual key), a renunciation of plain acclamation, a reduction of pathos in favor of an exceptionally elaborate composition, particularly the first part - a brilliant missa solemnis for the ceremonious organization of the court church service and, at the same time, the public presentation of an ambitious composer's artistic competence. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4065900.

This critical edition sheds light on the special qualities linking RV 198 (here published for the first time) to the musicians of the Saxon court, and offers the first detailed comparison between two versions of the concerto. Passages of brilliant figuration and finely spun diminutions characterize the solo episodes in the fast movements. An alternative Adagio is included in each of the various formats (scores, keyboard reduction and parts).

From the composer: After many years writing cadenzas, transcriptions and reductions of orchestral works, I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at writing a piece of my own. It is my privilege to dedicate this first effort to Viviane Spanoghe, my musical partner, muse, and benevolent critic for the past 40 years. Another considerable debt is to the composer Peter Swinnen, whose formidable erudition and expertise helped transform an idea into a musical word. Lastly, I discovered Hildegard von Bingen, whose genius struck me so forcefully through the ages; she gave me the material prima and the will to complete this essay..
