The text, Isaiah 9:6, is found as the offertory for Christmas in the Roman Missal. The music is pure classical period—think Haydn, to whom this piece, incidentally, has been wrongly attributed. Scored for organ and choir, with three strings and two trombones, it includes both Latin and English texts. SATB. GIA is pleased to offer this edited and translated version of the Christmas offertory Parvulus filius by Franz Schneider. Based on research from the Melk archive of the Benedictine monastery in Lower Austria, Jane Hettrick has prepared a fantastic edition of this little-known historical gem. The text is provided in both Latin and English, and a continuo of two violins, cello, and two trombones (which double the alto and tenor voices) is also available. Editorial slurs and articulations are also provided.

Steele's superb song-cycle Autumn Sequence was written for the pupils of Stockport Grammar School, and is scored for speaker, solo voices, chorus, flute or piccolo or recorder, tubular bells, handbells, organ pedal and piano, being the rather idiosyncratic resources then available at the school. It was first performed on October 3rd 1969 in the schools Hallam Hall, where the composer had been responsible for the specification of the recently installed organ. Douglas Steele himself played the piano part in his own inimitable style extending and improvising the cadenzas between the movements. A recording is available on Campion Cameo 2040/1 featuring Richard Baker narrating and choirs from Carlisle Cathedral, with John Turner on recorder.Autumn Sequence can be heard on the album Autumn Sequence: The Music of Douglas Steele and his circle.

In the first setting, unison verses alternate with harmonized verses. Cantor, choir, and congregation may sing this setting unaccompanied or organ can be added to support the choral harmonization. The alternate setting is designed for congregations that know this piece well. Unison verses featuring a contrasting organ harmonization are sung in response to each falsobordone choral verse. Vintersalme-Musik (1980) - Choral prelude for Organ. Orig. title: Vintersalme.
Programme note: When in 1975 I had finished composing my 3rd Symphony (begun in 1973), I wrote three simple melodies for two psalm texts by Ole Sarvig “The Year” and “Choral Hymn”. One of these was later included in the Danish Hymnbook under the title “Året – Som året går” (The Year). These three “Sarvig tunes” were derived from the same material as the second movement of the symphony and could be harmonized together in several different temporelationships at the same time - like fractals. This inspired me to write several choral and instrumental works in the following decade based on these melodies: for instance “Frost Psalm”, “Winter Cantata”, “Cycles”, “Cantica” and this piece for organ, all coloured by the Nordic and mythic poem by Sarvig, the beginning of which goes: The passing year will pass its deep So shall our mind reach winter´s sleep. And as the tree stands leafles, bare, Is winter´s realms: our minds aware. Per Nørgård

Hymn preludes and choral arrangements by Bendt Fabricus (2018). Foreword: This small collection of preludes and choral arrangements is a selection of movements, created through more than 30 years of work as an organist in the Danish National Church. The collectionis first and foremost intended as a useful work tool for all my colleagues around the Danish organ benches. There are movements thatare suitable for the small one-manual organ in the village church and others that are intended for the concert organ in the large city church. Some movements are easy to follow, even with a simple and traditionally constructed structure, while others, both harmonious and rhythmic, offer greater complexity and degree of difficulty. Virtually all the kits composed for two manuals and pedal can also be realized on organs that have only one manual and pedal. As far as registration instructions are concerned, my statements are only intended as a guide to the sonorous expression in a given movement, as of course everyone is free to find exactly the registration that is deemed appropriate on the instrument in question. It is my wish that all organists can benefit fromthe collection and that it will prove to be a useful and beneficial supplement in the daily work. Bendt Fabricius.

The present triptych follows the structure of the Italian overture fast, slow, fast. Its style is mostly ornamental, with two lively movements framing a rather contemplative central chorale.

In Jubilate Deo Kim André Arnesen goes back to the music to which he was introduced from a very early age as a chorister at Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway. There he sang regularly in concerts and services, and many of his favourite works come from the repertoire for choir and organ. Although the composer has not written a lot for those forces, they are perfect for the character andemotions portrayed in this piece. The joy and exuberance of the music reflects the Latin text (the opening two verses of Psalm 100: “Rejoice in God, all the earthâ€, and verses from Psalm 57: “I will sing and make musicâ€), with dancing, syncopated rhythms and a more solemn, soothing middle section. A real showstopper, made even more effective by the optional percussion (tambourine and hand drum – an extracted percussion part is included in the vocal score).

Bright Mass With Canons by composer Nico Muhly was originally composed for SATB chorus and Organ Accompaniment, but this arrangement features Two Pianos and Percussion. This is the set of Parts for this unique arrangement of a wonderful composition. This work was arranged by Buck McDaniel in 2014 and features an intriguing mix of percussive instruments like the Triangle, Glockenspiel and Vibraphone, together with the Two Pianos, creating a wholly new piece that takes the original composition and transforms it with an entirely new sound and dynamic. The work is divided into four sections, Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus & Benedictus and Agnus Dei .

The Choral Collection Psalms contains over 50 settings for mixed unaccompanied choir from six centuries. It is a true treasure-trove of compositions in various styles and levels of difficulty: with some unknown new discoveries and some classics of the choral literature, the selection will enrich both worship and concerts. The 150 psalms of the Old Testament express rejoicing, joy, confidence, but also lament, grief, anger, and even doubt. The psalms are present throughout Christianity and Judaism to this day, and are sung worldwide in countless settings. The Choral Collection Psalms displays the whole stylistic and linguistic variety ranging from contemplative, simple Anglican chant through Russian Orthodox homophony to virtuoso motets with jazzy echoes. The linguistic spectrum is equally broad: English, French, German (some with added singable English translation), Estonian, Icelandic and, of course, Latin psalm settings are represented, as well as works in Church Slavonic and Hebrew (both accompanied by transliterations and a singable German text). The foreword (German / English) offers many hints regarding the performance of the psalm settings, and a detailed index will help with choosing appropriate pieces for the liturgical occasion according to the Anglican, Protestant, or Catholic calendar. Over the last ten years editor Stefan Schuck has performed two psalm compositions every week in his NoonSong series in Berlin. From the resulting 800 works, he has selected the most interesting compositions arranged according to level of difficulty. The choral director's volume includes a CD with recordings of selected works, sung by sirventes and conducted by the editor, which will help with learning and rehearsing the repertoire. over 50 psalm settings from six centuries for worship and concert use stylistic variety and mixed levels of difficulty: from Anglican Chant to virtuoso motets for four-part mixed choir, some with organ/piano accompaniment transliterations and German singing texts help with practising cross-cultural repertoire liturgical classification of all settings for Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican lectionary includes many unknown jewels such as Boze, Boze moj (Cesar Cui), Jauschew be seser eljaun (David Rubin), and Schubert's setting of Psalm 23 in the first Hebrew version CD recording (sirventes berlin, cond.
