When The Spring Comes Round?(original title in French: Quand nos bourgeons se rouvriront) is a song for solo Soprano Voice part of a staged recitation with orchestra ?Une voix dans ledésert? (A Voice in the Desert) written by the English composer?Edward Elgar?in 1915. The words are by the Belgian poet Émile Cammaerts and were translated into English by his wife Tita Brand.?In this Novello edition the orchestra part has been transcribed into a Piano accompaniment.Many of Sir Edward Elgar?s works have entered the British and international classicalconcert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the Enigma Variations the Pomp and Circumstance Marches concertos for Violin and Cello and two symphonies. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924.

The Lost Words by composer James Burton takes its inspiration and text from the award-winning ?cultural phenomenon? and book of the same name by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris: a book that was, in turn, a creative response to the removal of everyday nature words like acorn, newt and otter from a new edition of a widely used children?s dictionary. Both the book and Burton?s 32-minute work, which is written in 12 short movements for upper-voice choir in up to 3 voice parts (with either orchestral or piano accompaniment), celebrates each lost word with a beautiful poem or ?spell?, magically brought to life in Burton?s music. At its heart, the work delivers a powerful message about the need to close the gap between childhood and the natural world. Burton?s piece was co-commissioned by the Hallé Concerts Society for the Hallé Children?s Choir and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The piano accompaniment version was premiered at the Tanglewood Festival in 2019 by the Boston Symphony Children?s Choir, of which Burton is founder and director. The Hallé Children?s Choir will premiere the orchestral version of the full work in Manchester, UK, post-pandemic.

Par SZYMANOWSKI KAROL. The composition of the Princess Songs marked the beginning of a particularly productive phase for Karol Szymanowski. Based on a series of poems by his sister Zofia, Szymanowski composed this colorful and glittering music in 1915; its exotic, lyrical and fantastical world is expressed in the coloratura soprano’s many passages, featuring trills and rapid runs. The princess herself remains mysteriously undefined. Love is her only recurrent theme. By withdrawing into internal fantasy during a time of war, Szymanowski found an opportunity to retreat into a dream world, and composing songs remained an important part of his lifelong work; in 1933 he arranged three of the six Princess Songs for voice and orchestra.
