| Twelve short organ works without opus numbers Organ Carus Verlag
Organ SKU: CA.5027300 Composed by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger. Edited by Ma...(+)
Organ SKU: CA.5027300 Composed by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger. Edited by Martin Weyer. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Full Score. Carus Verlag #5027300. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5027300). ISBN 9790007298456. As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends. They are ideally suited for mass and organ lessons.
This organ volume brings together twelve compositions Rheinberger wrote for different occasions and at various points during his career. Included in the collection are seven short pieces in different keys that date from the early 1860s. Rheinberger wrote these at the request of his teacher Herzog and others for several organ collections of “easy, performable†pieces – and they are rewarding pieces for liturgical use. The works without opus numbers (WoO 10, 37, 56, 70) can no longer be regarded as early works. The Fugue in F minor WoO 10 of 1867, with its tendency to translate counterpoint into expressive chordal writing, already displays many characteristics of the late Rheinberger, the Canzonetta WoO 77 is a late work from autumn 1899, whereas the Romanze WoO 70 is a second version of no. 1 of the Miscellaneen op. 174 in the easier to play key of C major.

The posthumously compiled collection of ten smaller organ pieces WoO 25 brings together a series of interesting pieces from the years 1854 to 1896. It includes one of just two chorale settings by Rheinberger, the prelude on “Wenn ich einmal soll scheidenâ€. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Full Score. Composed 1883. WoO 95. Carus Verlag #5027400. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5027400). ISBN 9790007298395. Key: G major. As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends.
The Prelude in G major by Nikolaus Bruhns arranged by Rheinberger in 1882 specifically “for concert performance†shows Rheinberger as an editor skilled at “recreating†older works. He added individual voices or chords to the original composition, and occasionally restructured the part-writing – an interesting version for performing on a late 19th-century organ.

In 1897, at the request of the English publisher Novello, Rheinberger compiled a collection of six pieces for the series “Village Organist†and had these published as “Six Short Piecesâ€. He drew largely on older pieces for this, but also composed three new pieces. What resulted is a delightful group of little gems for worship or organ teaching, including a short character piece, “Consolationâ€.

Organ (Organ) SKU: HL.14005770 Composed by Charles Villiers Stanford. Music Sales America. Folk British Isles. Book [Softcover]. 8 pages. Music Sales #NOV590094. Published by Music Sales (HL.14005770). 9.0x12.0x0.047 inches. Charles Villiers Stanford was an Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor. Stanford composed a substantial number of concert works, including seven symphonies, but his best-remembered pieces are his choral works for church performance, chiefly composed in the Anglican tradition. Admitted to Queens College, Cambridge with an Organ scholarship Stanford had written a substantial number of compositions, including vocal music, both sacred and secular, and orchestral works before getting involved with the university's Musical Society. While still an undergraduate, Stanford was appointed organist of Trinity College, Cambridge. Part of the'Four Intermezzi Op. 189' Intermezzo On An Irish Air for Organ is based on the melody of the well-known 'Londonderry Air'. The traditional Irish tune was first collected in the mid 19th century by Jane Ross, and is recognised all around the world by the Irish Diaspora. Organ SKU: SU.80101404 For Organ. Composed by Carson Cooman. Keyboard, Organ. Score. Zimbel Press #80101404. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101404). Organ Symphony No. 2 (2017) was written for and is dedicated to German organist Philip Hartmann. In all of my works that employ larger-scale forms (not just organ compositions), I am continually looking for different ways of providing the form and structure. My first organ symphony (2013) comprised three larger movements that charted a progression from dark to light. By contrast, this second organ symphony comprises 12 shorter movements that together build a larger structure out of varied emotional states. Although the movements are different in character, there are connections of harmony and motive across them. One goal behind this work is that it be suitable for effective performance on almost any organ, small or large. Most organ symphonies require a large instrument. By contrast, this piece can be played effectively on even a small organ with a limited number of stops (even a one manual organ with an octave pedal board). It can also be very effective on a large symphonic organ with many different colors and a huge tutti. Registration is left to the performer's discretion, and the organist is strongly encouraged to use the full extent of whatever resources are available. Organ - easy to intermediate SKU: HL.49017948 Choral Preludes. Composed by Hermann Schroeder. Edited by Peter Alexander Stadtmueller and Raimund Keusen. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Organ Collection. Hermann Schroeder (1904-84) is one of the most important German composers of 20th-century Catholic church and organ music. This volume for the first time contains the most important chorale arrangements for the organ. Composed 1948. 68 pages. Duration 15'. Schott Music #ED20183. Published by Schott Music (HL.49017948). ISBN 9790001147439. UPC: 884088585631. 9.0x12.0x0.314 inches. Hermann Schroeder's abundant oeuvre in the field of chorale-bound organ music is much less known among organists than his free - especially the concertante - organ works, although Hermann Schroeder as an organist felt particularly bound to liturgy and liturgical singing. And according to him, any liturgical organ music should always bear a direct relation to singing. The purpose of the present anthology is to provide the player a representative selection of Schroeder's chorale arrangements. Most of these chorales are relatively short and of medium difficulty at most. The chorale melody can be heard well most of the time so that the pieces are ideal for being used in church services. In the alphabetical index, the beginnings of song titles are accompanied by the corresponding number from Gotteslob (GL) or the Protestant Hymnal for better orientation. $36.00 - See more - Buy online

The organ is the instrument on which the young Giacomo Puccini began his career as a musician. Through the rediscovery of a considerable number of hand-written pieces, which he composed after 1870 as part of his duties as organist in the churches of Lucca, several primary sources are now available. These give an insight into the beginnings of his musical activities which have only been known about from anecdotes from his first biographers until now. Puccini's organ repertoire includes works which were typical for liturgical organ music at that time: sonatas for the main sections of the mass, versets which were substituted for Gregorian chant, marches, which were played after the mass (exceptionally even waltzes), and even a pastorale for Christmas time. This music was written with the sound of instruments made in Tuscany in mind. These have just one manual, a 8 foot Principale register and a small pedalboard always coupled to the manual. In addition there were several solo stops divided into bass and soprano.Puccini contributed with originality to the renewal of Italian organ practice, which began in his day to discard its operatic style in favor of a style more suited to the liturgy. $221.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Organ SKU: SU.80101396 For Organ. Composed by Carson Cooman. Keyboard, Organ. Score. Zimbel Press #80101396. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101396). Trilogy on B-A-C-H (2017) uses as its musical material a familiar four-note theme: the letters B-A-C-H (the last name of Johann Sebastian Bach) treated as a musical motive: B-flat, A, C, B-natural (H in German note naming). Starting with Bach himself, this theme has been used by a truly enormous number of composers over the centuries. Most B-A-C-H themed works (at least those for organ), tend to be extremely contrapuntal, likely taking their cue from much of Bach's own organ music. This piece explicitly goes in the other direction and use the theme primarily motivically/melodically and as a generating force for the kind of mixed modality that is typical of Cooman's music. The first movement is an energetic march. The second movement is a lyric meditation containing both an arioso and a short quasi-passacaglia, in which the B-A-C-H motive repeats slowly in the pedals. The last movement is a free fantasia: the motive appears both in chorale-like long notes and as a fast, turning figure. Organ SKU: BR.EB-8703 Reprint of the Leipzig edition 1900. Composed by Hermann J. (Hrsg.) Busch. Edited by H. J. Busch and Ludwig Sauer. Solo instruments; Softbound. Edition Breitkopf. Reprint of the edition Leipzig 1900. Please note: this edition has nothing to do with Arnold Schoenberg! The Schonberg in question is a town near Kronberg in Germany’s hilly Taunus region. Romantic period. Score. 132 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 8703. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-8703). ISBN 9790004180686. 9 x 12 inches. Please note: this edition has nothing to do with Arnold Schonberg! The Schonberg in question is a town near Kronberg in Germany's hilly Taunus region. Around the turn of the last century, the organist Ludwig Sauer (1861-1940) wanted to have a new organ built at his church there and came up with a novel way to finance it: he asked a number of composers to donate a musical piece. He eventually obtained 36 (!) pieces which he grouped together in the Organ Album for the Benefit of the New Organ in Schonberg by L. Sauer and had published in 1900 by Breitkopf & Hartel. Deserving particular mention is Max Reger's popular Introduction and Passacaglia in D minor, which was printed for the first time in that collection and which no doubt helped Sauer's project make organ history. The Schonberger Orgelalbum contains both free pieces and works based on chorales. Thanks to the brevity of the pieces, the book is ideal for use in teaching and in the religious service.. $55.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Organ - intermediate to advanced SKU: HL.49017070 Uber den Choral Morgenglanz der Ewigkeit. Composed by Johanna Senfter. Edited by Johannes Geffert. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Piano. Book only. Op. 66. 32 pages. Duration 14'. Schott Music #ED 20264. Published by Schott Music (HL.49017070). ISBN 9790001149433. UPC: 841886009639. 9.0x12.0x0.105 inches. The overall oeuvre of Johanna Senfter only includes three free organ works: 'Fantasie und Fuge' Op. 30a (in: Female Composers, ED 9741), the present variations 'Morgenglanz der Ewigkeit' Op. 66 and an organ piece in D minor without opus number. Together with the three cycles of chorale preludes Op. 30b, Op. 70 (Schott ED 9603) and Op. 73, the instrument of the organ occupies a rather small part in her oeuvre. That puts the obvious point of view, namely to see the composer of such a 'choral fantasia' mainly as a student of Reger, into perspective. It is, on the contrary, worth to get to know this major work as a facet of the long life of an artist whose major works still wait to be rediscovered. $27.99 - See more - Buy online

During my compositional preparation, I repeatedly found myself returning to this work. I had a number of different formal models in mind, but felt myself gravitating towards the rhapsodic character of toccata form so that my new composition for organ ultimately became a toccata developing from a pedal point on the fundamental note 'D'. As is appropriate to the volume of a large modern organ, my concept focuses on symphonic tonal layers whose suggestive maelstrom originates from the inner strength of repeating elements and their register- like augmentation, culminating in the unleashing of polyrhythmic progressions. The choral cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. This is true despite the fact that Reger himself does not appear to have considered the cantatas to figure among his principal compositions, as he gave them no opus numbers. Josef Rheinberger (b. 1839 d. 1901) was a prolific composer in almost every field but he found in the Organ the medium best fitted to his genius and temperament. This seems to be proved by the fact that his reputation as an Organ composer has grown and is now firmly established whereas his position in other branches has declined. His twenty sonatas and his numerous shorter pieces (about a hundred) make up one of the most important contributions to the Organ repertory. It may indeed be claimed that in the maintenance of a high level of quality and interest throughout a long series of works of both large and small scale his position as an Organ composer issecond only to that of Bach. Sonata No. 19:The G minor Sonata is one of a small proportion of the twenty - No. 15 in D is another - concerning whose merits players are divided. It does not meet one half-way. It is the longest of the twenty: some monotony inevitably results from the use of the key of G for all its movements : its difficulties are of the ungrateful type : and the vigour of its first movement is often rough-even harsh. Yet it appears to be among the favourites of those who know it well; the late Dr. G. J. Bennett (a pupil of Rheinberger's and a devotee of the Sonatas) placed it among the best of the later numbers. Sonata No. 20:In spite of some inequalities No. 20 makes a worthy end to a fine series. Rheinberger's failing health at the time of its composition is no doubt responsible for a few moments of indecision especially in the Finale. The invention shows little if any falling off. In all the sonatas there are few better themes of the broad diatonic type than that which opens the first movement ; and the pleasant tunes of the Intermezzo and Pastoral and the swinging subject of the Finale are in the true Rheinberger vein. But the lack of a substantial fugal section is felt: it might well have come as a central portion of the Finale which

Traditional church Organs are no longer the exclusive domain of Bach and the like - popular styles have conquered the “king of instruments” and found wide-ranging forms of expression. The only thing missing to date is a broad selection of suitable pieces. This is where Jazz Inspirations For Organ steps in. This comprehensive collection of moderately difficult pieces by various composers and organists offers “classical” swing jazz blues and Latin numbers side by side with rumba ragtime and calypso. A chorale prelude on Silent Night rubs shoulders with a Swing Fughetta and Latin for Lefties. The collection's great attraction lies in its personal treatment of the various themes. The editors are experienced organists fully conversant with the timbral possibilities of the pipe Organ. Their suggestions regarding registration are valuable tips that allow organists to develop their own style and be creative.

The Six Preludes Op.23 are typical of Merkel's style and have elegant melodic lines combined with graceful contrapuntal technique. They are miniatures which well represent 19th century German organ music. These short pieces arranged by Bryan Hesford are especially useful as voluntaries.

Vol. 1-3-Collected preludes and minor pieces for organ volume 1-3. Edited by Birgitte Ebert and Bendt Viinholt Nielsen. The Rued Langgaard Edition Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen 2017. With the publication of Rued Langgaard’s preludes and minor pieces for organ in three volumes the contribution made by the composer to this repertoire is being presented in its entirety and all its diversity. The publishers have decided to include as many ofLanggaard’s small pieces for organ as it has been possible to present in an authentic form rather than to carry out a selection based on aesthetic or formalcriteria. The 112 compositions are presented in chronological order in accordance with Bendt ViinholtNielsen’s catalogue of works Rued Langgaard’s Compositions (1991). The intention to include as far as possible all the completed compositions in the edition has resulted inconsiderable editorial challenges. In certain cases Langgaard’s own handwritten manuscripts are so unclear or incomplete that the editors have had to abandon the possibility of arriving at a form of publication that lives up to the strict requirements made by the Rued Langgaard Edition regarding authenticity and a critical approach to the source material. Therefore the editors have made no attempt to include a number of mainly untitled and undated preludes which Langgaard left behind in so loose a notation that publication in anything approaching authentic form is not possible (these pieces are registered in the catalogue of works in the appendix of omitted works as U10-U20). per organo. Par VASKS PETERIS. Peteris Vasks has written a large number of pieces for the organ, both original works and arrangements of his own pieces which had originally been written for strings. The Riga-based composer created his ideal sound image after listening to the famous organ of the Cathedral of Riga. The basic idea of the organ work 'Cantus ad pacem' is, as with almost all of his compositions, the personal understanding of nature: the beauty of nature, on the one hand, and the destruction of nature by man, on the other hand.
Not presenting any great difficulties, Vasks' organ music displays an impressive variety of sounds, from the most intimate, restrained sounds to powerful chordal outbursts./ Répertoire / Orgue

Für Orgel. Par JOST CHRISTIAN. There is no other work more closely associated with the organ than Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata in D minor. During my compositional preparation, I repeatedly found myself returning to this work. I had a number of different formal models in mind, but felt myself gravitating towards the rhapsodic character of toccata form so that my new composition for organ ultimately became a toccata developing from a pedal point on the fundamental note ’D’. As is appropriate to the volume of a large modern organ, my concept focuses on symphonic tonal layers whose suggestive maelstrom originates from the inner strength of repeating elements and their register- like augmentation, culminating in the unleashing of polyrhythmic progressions. The “Little Organ Book” perhaps the most celebrated collection ever of chorale preludes owes its title to J.S. Bach’s application for the post of Cantor at St Thomas’ Church in Leipzig. Lacking an academic degree Bach wanted to demonstrate his qualifications as a teacher through his compositions – including his Inventions Sinfonias and the “Well Tempered Klavier”. This also led him to append a misleading title to the most ambitious project of his time at Weimar: he called this collection of chorale preludes - originally meant to number 164 pieces - pieces for an “aspiring organist”. In fact the44 completed compositions of the “Little Organ Book” are demanding masterpieces which give an impressive display of the full range of the so-called short chorale prelude. This new critical edition returns for the first time to the format of the principal sources dating from Bach’s time in that most of the pieces are reproduced on two systems rather than three.

(Ausgewahlte Orgelwerke, Band 1). Par SCHROEDER HERMANN.
In the alphabetical index, the beginnings of song titles are accompanied by the corresponding number from Gotteslob (GL) or the Protestant Hymnal for better orientation./ Répertoire / Orgue

Oratorio-Immediately after completing “St. Paul” in 1836 Mendelssohn mulled over the idea of composing a further oratorio. However a whole decade elapsed before the composition of “Elijah” which takes as its theme the story of the Biblical prophet from the 1 st Book of Kings. When he received the invitation to write a major work for the Birmingham Music Festival Mendelssohn finally embarked on work on the oratorio. “Elijah” was premiered in 1846 in Birmingham with great success and has enjoyed great popularity ever since.Following the firstperformance Mendelssohn undertook a revision of the oratorio in which whole numbers were removed and new ones substituted. This is the version which was first heard in 1847 in London and which is still performed today. To mark the Mendelssohn anniversary year 2009 the Mendelssohn specialist Douglass Seaton Professor at Florida State University prepared a critical new edition of the oratorio. The edition reflects the latest research findings and includes both English and German singing texts.A critical commentary completes the new edition.- One of Mendelssohn’s most popular works in an edition reflecting the latest editorial knowledge- Bärenreiter-Urtext including numbers from the original version for the first time- English and German singing texts- Critical Commentary (Eng)
