The piece was written originally for equal voice choir in 1929. A mixed-choir adaptation was made in 1961 at the request of Oxford University Press. This appeared in print in the same year with an English text under the title A Christmas Carol in a collection of Christmas songs, as well as in a separate print. The musical material of the mixed-choir version largely follows the original. There is one essential difference in verse 5, beginning at bar 35 ( Babe all holy ) where the tenor solo appears with a delightful eight-bar countermelody not found in the original. Since this version only appeared in Kodály s lifetime with an English text, this has been retained, but we havealso provided the original Hungarian text upon which the equal voice version is based. Zoltán Kodály s complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new, extended, edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A). This volume containing 51 compositions has been edited by the renowned conductor Péter Erdei, one of the most devoted interpreters of Kodály s choral works. The new edition takes into consideration the manuscript sources for the compositions housed in the Kodály Archives in Budapest. The publication features new, easily-legible music scores edited on uniform principles. For better readability, the new edition is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions.The present publication is an offprint from the renewed edition of Kodály s complete choral works for mixed voices. It has the same format as the volume, and has been printed on excellent-quality pale-yellow paper.

Liszt was one of the greatest piano virtuosos of the 19th century and a very influential teacher who played an enormous part in the development of modern piano technique. For this reason the majority of his works make the highest technical demands of the performer - this selection, however, contains only pieces at an intermediate difficulty level. In addition to the hits (D flat major Consolation, Liebestraum No. 3) the moderately advanced student or amateur player will discover real finds such as the three pieces in the Bunte Reihe ( Colourful Series ), the earlier version of the Valse impromptu and the Romance oubliée ( Forgotten Romance ) and the later, simplified versionthe composer made of the i>Grand galop chromatique. This publication was based on the EMB New Liszt Edition, but bearing practical considerations in mind. Playing - is just playing. It requires a great deal of freedom and initiative from the performer. On no account should the written image be taken seriously but the written image must be taken extremely seriously as regards the musical process, the quality of sound and silence. Besides Bach, Domenico Scarlatti is the other Baroque composer whose keyboard works sound really great on the modern piano. The editor of this volume has chosen sixteen pieces from the 555 surviving single-movement keyboard sonatas by Scarlatti. This compilation is designed to offer a representative selection in order to give a taste of the incredibly rich world of Scarlatti's sonatas in terms of their character, structure, and keyboard techniques: they include lyrical Andantes and powerful, etude-like, whirling Allegros, pieces inspired by Spanish folk music and guitar-playing, as well as sonatas that anticipate the Viennese classical style. None of these movements exceed amoderate difficulty level. Neben Bach ist Domenico Scarlatti der andere Barock-Komponist, dessen Werke für Tasteninstrumente auch auf dem heutigen Klavier gut klingen. For this reason the majority of the exercises are folk melodies or compositions created in the spirit of folk song. In addition to Hungarian folk music, the volume also contains folk music from other countries, and classical music. Of etudes in the traditional sense of the word we have included only as much as was absolutelyessential...' (Zoltán Jeney) In der vorliegenden Flötenschule waren wir bestrebt, durch gestuftes Aufschlichten des musikalischen und technischen Lehrstoffes den Entwicklungsweg für den Anfänger möglichst leicht und reibungslos zu gestalten. Unsere Absicht war eine moderne, den heutigen Erfordernissen entsprechende Flötenschule zusammenzustellen. Composer and violinist János Lavotta (1764-1820), as a member of the ''virtuoso trio'' who played a great role in the history of Hungarian music, was one of the pioneers of verbunkos music. (The other two key players being János Bihari and Antal Csermák.) Although Lavotta s Violin Duos Op. 49 must have also been used for playing music at home, they show the composer's clear educational intent since the fourteen consecutive pieces gradually increase in difficulty in both technical and musical respects. The relatively short and undemanding melodies (which can be grasped by beginners), the sequence-like structure that makes practising individual technical elements possible, therhythmical-harmonic accompanying forms, as well as the temperately applied modulations are definitely suitable for beginner violinists to achieve significant progress in playing. According to music historian Mária Domokos, Lavotta's duos could have been included in the syllabus of any contemporary music school at the time. The first publication of Easy Duos - which came out on the 250th anniversary of the Lavotta's birth - was edited by János Dombóvári who provided the fingering and the necessary instructions for performance.
