This piece was originally part of a major work for concert band called 'The Turn of a Wheel' which has received performances in many parts of the world since its premier in November 1999. In 2002 the finale 'Power and Glory' was performed in the Royal Albert Hall by a massed band of 250 young musicians from South West London as part of the Making Waves concert. The composer has skilfully adapted that finale for organ and it makes an impressive show piece indeed!

Jan Sweelinck (1562-1621) was among the most famous organists of seventeenth century Europe and an influential composer in the Dutch and North German tradition. Bridging both Renaissance and Baroque styles the Dutch composer is best remembered for the inventive sparkling music he wrote for organ and other keyboard instruments. During his formal music training he developed his main musical interests of music theory and composition while studying with William Baxter and Hugh Thomas. From 1966 to 1972 he was the organist and choir director at the Cathedral of St. Paul Minnesota. From 1973 to 1994 Dicie taught reading and vocal music in Nashville public schoolsand from 1976 to 1994 was organist and choir director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Franklin Tennessee. He then served as organist and Church Music Director at Trinity United Methodist Church Franklin Tennessee. With text from the Book of Jeremiah the four movements follow the prophet's feelings of abandonment and redemption by God. Twentieth century American composer Gordon Young was a prolific creator of Choral works and pieces for Organ some of which have entered the repertoire.

The idea for this book series is to give instrumentalists the opportunity to practice solo improvisational techniques while playing along to rhythm tracks of keyboards guitar bass drums/percussion in various different Latin styles including Calypso Mambo Salsa Songo Bossa Guaracha Samba and Latin-Blues. The 24 grooves totalling over 200 riffs/phrases and play-a-long tracks consists of a variety of tempos and keys. Each groove has a variety of riffs to learn that are generally 4 or 8 measures in length. It would be beneficial if you could memorize these riffs so that you can experiment using different permutations of the riffs as well as being used as a starting offpoint for one's own improvisations. Each riff has been recorded with a rhythm track with each style having an extended play-a-long track around 3 minutes in length recorded without the solo part so you can practice the riffs that you have learned. Also these musical phrases or riffs may be interchanged from one groove to another and should be learned in as many keys as possible.
