Men's choir SKU: BR.SON-435 Complete Works. Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Edited by Ralf Wolfgang and Wehner Goldhan. Linen. Complete Works. Romantic period. Complete Works. 504 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 435. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-435). ISBN 9790004803134. 9 x 12 inches. Works for male chorus or mens voices a cappella run through Mendelssohns oeuvre like a fine red thread. Whoever is only familiar with the six Lieder op. 50, which were printed during the composers lifetime, will be surprised that the Mendelssohn Work Catalogue lists altogether 38 such pieces written between 1820 and 1847. Mendelssohn apparently wrote a number of individual vocal pieces for private occasions, commissions, or as gifts to male vocal societies. Some of them are being published for the first time ever in this volume. The works are so conceived that they can be performed both by solo voices and by a chorus.
Consists of two subvolumes and a supplement. $661.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

The Leipziger Ausgabe der Werke von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy pursues the goal of making accessible to the public in an adequately scholarly form all of Mendelssohn's accessible compositions, letters and writings, along with all other documents of his artistic oeuvre. A considerable number of Mendelssohn's works are still waiting to be published; many others have been published in an unsatisfactory manner.Though the new Mendelssohn Complete Edition follows the ten volumes of the Leipziger Mendelssohn Ausgabe (LMA) published by the Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (DVfM) in Leipzig since 1961, it sees itself as a fundamentally new conception which reflects the present-day standard of scholarly editions. The first volumes of the new Complete Edition were presented in Leipzig on 3 November 1997 at Mendelssohn Festtage in Leipzig.SON 411 - 413 have been awarded the German Music Edition Prize 2006.

SKU: BR.SON-437 Complete Works. Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Edited by Clemens Harasim. Linen. Complete Works. Romantic period. Complete Works. 392 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 437. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-437). ISBN 9790004803158. 10 x 12.5 inches. Nine variegated Sacred Vocal Works with Orchestra by Mendelssohn have been compiled in this volume. They stem not only from various creative phases of the composer, but also in view of their vocal settings show up marked differences and thus reflect the variety of Mendelssohns creative oeuvre. One shared aspect is that all nine works remained unprinted during the composers lifetime. Only the Lauda Sion achieved celebrity; it was published with the posthumously attributed opus number 73 and took its place next to other choral works by Mendelssohn already in the 19th century. Now published within the Mendelssohn Complete Edition, it boasts a text-critically revised score available in many cases for the first time, and from which impulses for musical practice are sure to arise. $522.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Choir SKU: BR.SON-442 Complete Works. Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Edited by Clemens Harasim. Linen. Complete Works. Romantic period. Complete Works. 188 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 442. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-442). ISBN 9790004803509. 10 x 12.5 inches. This volume contains three reworkings and orchestrations of religious works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy which were originally set for smaller ensembles (solo voices, four-part chorus and organ). They were composed at different times and for different occasions, two of them as commissions. The anthem ,,Why, o Lord, delay forever MWV A 19 was originally the sacred vocal piece MWV B 33, published in England in 1841 with the additional title ,,[…] The Thirteenth Psalm, and in Germany in the same year as ,,Lass, o Herr, mich Hilfe finden with the title ,,Drei geistliche Lieder which was composed at the suggestion of the English literature and music lover Charles B. Broadley who also provided the paraphrase of the psalm text. After Mendelssohn had refused an initial request by Broadley to furnish the anthem post festum with an organ prelude, the composer did not want to turn down a second request to orchestrate the work and he even expanded the existing material with a lengthy closing fugue involving additional trumpets and timpani. The ,,Ave Maria MWV B 19 was written in connection with Mendelssohn's appointment as municipal music director, a position which at the same time included the responsibility for the musical organization of church services. The instrumentation of the work with an accompaniment of two clarinets and two bassoons as well as low strings was due to the fact that the organ in Dusseldorf's principal church St. Lambertus was out of order for an extended period of time, and Mendelssohn considered this solution explicitly only as a surrogate for the organ should there be none. A further psalm paraphrase in English, this time by William Bartholomew, of the hymn ,,Hear my prayer MWV B 49 was set to music in early 1844; the orchestration of the organ part commissioned by the distinguished Dublin musician Joseph Robinson was not completed until 1847 so that the premiere finally only took place after Mendelssohn's death. In the further course of the century ,,Hear my prayer would, particularly in the version with organ accompaniment, come to enjoy great popularity in Great Britain and Ireland. $248.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Arranged by Matthias (KA) Grunert. Choir; Softbound. Edition Breitkopf. The Missa Omnium Sanctorum is the last of the three transmitted Missae ultimae. The piano vocal score is based on the score published by Wolfgang Horn in volume 101 of the series Das Erbe deutscher Musik, now available as PB 5589. Mass; Baroque. Piano/Vocal Score. 100 pages. Duration 60'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 8052. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-8052). ISBN 9790004185148. 7.5 x 10.5 inches. The Missa Omnium Sanctorum ZWV 21 is Zelenka's last mass setting. It contains three extended arias (one each for soprano, alto and tenor), concertante choruses and unusually expressive choral fugues. Especially powerful in effect is the through-composed Credo in this mass, with a ritornello that is one of Zelenka's most beautiful inspirations. The score and parts material of this new edition are based on the corresponding volume of the Das Erbe deutscher Musik series, from which Breitkopf & Hartel also took over both its informative preface as well as the critical report. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. ISBN 9790004342695. 12.5 x 10 inches. Jan Dismas Zelenka's Missa Dei Filii is the second of three transmitted Missae ultimae, but consists, like other short masses of the 18th century, solely of a Kyrie and Gloria. Nevertheless, it is an extensive work, and the lengthy, multipartite Gloria is considered as the most impressive Gloria setting that Zelenka created in his over 20 masses. What remains to be answered is whether Zelenka had originally planned a complete mass composition. The full score and the piano vocal score are based on volume 100 of the Denkmaler edition Das Erbe deutscher Musik, in which the gaps in the musical text found in the autograph towards the end of the Gloria were cautiously supplemented. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Edited by Jerome Roche. Choir; Softcover. Eulenburg Orchestral Series. Renaissance/early Baroque. Part. 8 pages. Duration 70'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EOS 8024-15. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EOS-8024-15). ISBN 9790004789452. 8.5 x 11.5 inches. Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 is a work which has both fascinated and perplexed musicologists and performers for many years. It forms by far the larger part of the composer's first significant publication of sacred music, entitled: Of the most blessed virgin a Mass for six voices for church choirs, and Vespers for more voices with several sacred concertos suitable for princely chapels or apartments. By the time this publication appeared, Monteverdi had been in the service of the Gonzaga court at MantUrauffuhrung for at least 18 years, and he was seeking a change of employment, so that the dedication of the volume to the reigning pope, Paul V, may be interpreted as a form of self-advertisement. Originally issued as an Urtext study score, the edition is based closely on the extant printed source, the set of partbooks published at Venice in 1610, and retains the original note values, key and mensuration signatures. $7.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

It opens an incompletely transmitted cycle of six masses which the composer himself designated as Missae ultimae. The musical text of the present conductors score is based on that of Volume 93 of the Denkmäler edition Das Erbe deutscher Musik. The new piano-vocal score has been edited by the reputable expert Andreas Köhs. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. Attractive alternative to the well-known St. Matthew PassionUrtext from the “New Bach Edition”Straightforward and easy-to-play piano reduction in the vocal scoreUnique to the market Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as we know it today evidently had a long history dating back before 1727. It is unclear whether the work performed at the Thomaskirche on Good Friday 1729 was based on a still earlier version. Whatever the case the surviving version of 1729 presents the work in a form strikingly different from its later incarnation. For example the opening section ends with the chorale “ Jesum lass ich nicht von mir ”which was replaced by the large-scale cantus firmus chorus “O Mensch bewein dein Sünde gross” for the 1736 performance. The well-known alto aria “Ach! nun ist mein Jesus hin ” is still assigned to a bass in the earlier version and the aria “ Komm süsses Kreuz ” calls for a lute instead of the later viola da gamba. Moreover the pieces for double chorus only require a single continuo group. Other differences can be found in the instrumental scoring and voice-leading. The early version of the St. Matthew Passion is thus a most interesting addition to the great concert repertoire. The corresponding volume of the “New Bach Edition” (series II/volume 5b) serves as a conducting score (BA5099-01).

Couverture Rigide. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Handel's 'Il pastor fido”, HWV...(+)
Couverture Rigide. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Handel's 'Il pastor fido”, HWV 8a, is the most modest of his Italian operas: With over half of its numbers drawing from musical material of earlier Italian cantatas, the work deliberately reflects the pastoral style of the Italian serenata. In order to capture the simplicity of this approach to form, Handel made use of several different techniques, such as a consistent use of high vocal registers, an abundance of monothematic da capo arias, and an overall prevalence of held-back arias.
'Il pastor fido” did not lend itself particularly well for an opera adaptation: Reducing the original text to the scale of an opera libretto posed an immense challenge. With drastic cuts, Handel's librettist Rossi condensed five acts with eighteen characters into three acts with only six roles. The libretto – a paltry sketch of the complex original drama – was not well received. But Rossi had actually done his best to add a sense of coherence to the story while preserving at least some of Guarini's poetic language.
This 'Halle Handel Edition' volume compares several sources that were not available for earlier editions. Amongst other things it presents the first modern edition of the complete overture, the complete stage instructions from the libretto, and an alternative ending for the duet of Mirtillo and Amarilli in the third act./ Répertoire / Conducteur
