Charles-Louis Hanon (July 2, 1819–March 19, 1900) was a French piano pedagogue and composer. He is most well known for his work The Virtuoso Pianist In 60 Exercises which has become part of the standard method for modern piano teachers.
It has been a recent trend for music schools to hold a Hanon Marathon, Church Street School for Music and Art being the first to have coined the term and held the event, in which Hanon exercises are played competitively.
Although the Hanon method is not without its detractors. Critics have questioned the merits of the independent finger technique which the exercises seek to cultivate, with some pedagogues, such as Abby Whiteside, considering them to be actively harmful.
Famous pianist Vladimir Horowitz supposedly took a book of Hanon's exercises to his grave. Said Horowitz, 'I never want to do anything without warming up; that includes dying.' (Retracter) ... (lire la suite)
Note Globale : Difficulté : I downloaded Hanon after being
inspired by a pianist friend
in her late 70s. She recently
completed a recording session
and said she prepared for this
by playing Hanon every day.
And as a bonus, she noticed
her arthritis had just about
vanished - a great reward for
virtue.
Note Globale : Difficulté : Here is another grateful
practitioner! A BIG THANK YOU
for this free download of
Hanon's exercises which my
teacher recommended!

Note Globale : Difficulté : You can make these as easy or
hard as you like. These are
definitely the best way to
train your brain to talk to
your fingers.
