In Times of Turbluence is a dramatic and powerful concert work from the pen of prolific composer Robert W. Smith. Beginning with a soft and stately chorale, the mood quickly changes to sounds of turbulence in a contemporary setting for the developing band. Biting dissonance and powerful rhythmic percussion sustain the turbulent atmosphere as it develops throughout the ensemble in a minor mode. The percussion and winds exchange powerful musical statements leading to the final triumphant resolution in a major key. An excellent choice for concert or festival performance.

A simple and easily singable song to the familiar tune MELITA, this piece was written to be used in worship as a way to pray for those who have suffered loss, for the first responders to any crisis, and for all who provide aid and support. A text and arrangement to return to again and again in turbulent times.

Mund y was among the youngest of a group of significant composers whose lives bridged the turbulent times of the Reformation. Though preserved in Elizabethan sources, his Latin antiphons most likely date from the reign of Mary. They are the last examples of a genre cultivated by English composers for two centuries.

There can be no doubt about it: The Bachs were a family of musicians. One of them was Johann Bach, who lived from 1604 to 1673 and experienced the turbulent times of the Thirty Years' War. When he - as the first in the family - found joy and fulfillment not only as an organist, but also as a composer, he would certainly never have imagined what historically great steps his successors were to take, especially his great nephew Johann Sebastian.Johann Bach's motet Unser Leben ist ein Schatten was published in 1821, but was erroneously attributed to Johann Michael Bach. Unusual is the scoring with one six-part main chorus and one three-part off-stage chorus (Chorus latens) which gives the piece a spatial sound depth and thus a very particular atmosphere.

Takes its title from the 700-mile flights the composer takes to visit his fiancee several times per month. This turbulent ride is an unstructured set of thematic variations which include fugues and canons. Several soloists are featured in the middle section. Melodic material from the middle section returns at the end of the work in a majestic statement by the full ensemble. Recording courtesy of GIA Publications, Inc.
