Dvorák composed his Terzetto op. 74 in 1887 as the result of a spontaneous desire to write some domestic music. Inspired by neighborhood violin lessons, he wrote these four little movements for two violins with viola accompaniment in the space of just a few days. This Terzetto is thus not technically difficult to play, though with its flowing melodies and spirited rhythms it still offers the best of Dvorák. It is not surprising that his publisher Fritz Simrock immediately snatched them up when Dvorák told him in 1887 that he was working on little bagatelles. The autograph of the score that contained many corrections nevertheless makes evident just how much hard work went into these little bagatelles. It also served as the engravers copy for the first edition. Both these sources were consulted for this Urtext edition that offers today's players an authentic text of this musical jewel.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, in 1878. He composed the work for his longtime friend, famed violinist Joseph Joachim, who premiered it in Leipzig with the Gewandhaussaal on January 1, 1879, Brahms himself conducting. The program also included, at Joachim's insistence, Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, on which Brahms modeled his own concerto. While the critical reception of the time was mixed, the audiences at the various early performances received the work well. Most complaints directed at the concerto addressed the role of the solo violin, noting that the soloist does not offer much of the melodic material or include much in the way virtuosic passages, a consequence of looking more towards Beethoven's serious aesthetic rather than Paganini's flashy one. Joachim himself, before a falling out with the composer over personal reasons, included Brahms' concerto among the best German offered, saying: The Germans have four violin concertos. The greatest, most uncompromising is Beethoven's. The one by Brahms vies with it in seriousness. The richest, the most seductive, was written by Max Bruch. Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost created with Contrasto Grosso for recorder quartet and string quartet a jewel of chamber music. The title highlights two important aspects of the piece: it describes the musical dialogue that takes place between the two quartets, and it refers to the three contrasting movements that make up the piece. Chamber music at it’s best! Le titre met en évidence deux aspects importants de la pièce : il fait référence la fois au dialogue entre les deux quatuors (dans le style du Concerto Grosso baroque) et aux contrastes entre les trois mouvements qui composent la pièce.

Celobrium was de Romeinse naam voor Soleuvre (Zolwer in het Luxemburgs, Zolverin het Duits). Het werk beschrijft een beroemde sage die al eeuwen bekend is in de regio. The Legend of Celobrium (“La légende de Celobrium”) est une œuvre de commande pour l’Orchestre d’Harmonie de Soleuvre au Luxembourg l’occasion de la célébration de son centenaire, en 2007.Celobrium est le nom donné par les Romains la ville de Soleuvre (Zolwer en luxembourgeois ou Zolver en allemand). Il autorisa l’épouse d’Alexandre quitter les lieux avec son ne et emporter avec elle tous les biens précieux que l’ ne pouvait porter. Il lui accorda le droit de s’installer en lieu s r aussi loin que l’ ne pouvait la mener. Magnanime, elle choisit d’emmener son mari avec elle, consciente que sa fuite serait ainsi ralentie. Avant de partir, elle jeta son or et ses précieux joyaux dans un puits profond du ch teau.Le voyage fut long et difficile. force de ténacité, ils réussirent se mettre en sécurité au sommet d’une colline avoisinante. Ils s’y installèrent et érigèrent un nouveau ch teau, le ch teau de Differdange.Les siècles passèrent et le ch teau du Zolwerknapp n’était plus qu’un amas de ruines. Jamais personne n’avait osé y chercher le trésor qui sommeillait dans les profondeurs du puits. Mais un jour, le prêtre local réussit persuader sept hommes braves de descendre au fond de l’obscur goulot pour récupérer l’or.
