Long a standard of organ repertoire, this set of short preludes and fugues, commonly attributed to Bach, is now available for pianists and organists who use minimal pedal or lack adequate pedal boards. While retaining the 'sound' of the original, some adjustments were made to octave doubling and voicing in order to make the pieces playable without a pedal board. These pieces are enjoyable to play at home and serve as excellent postludes for worship.

Befo re Rheinberger came to public attention as an organ composer with the publication of his first Organ Sonata op. 27, he had already written a few shorter works for his favorite instrument. These include the three Preludes and Fugues JWV 10, 13 and 16 which Rheinberger composed at the age of just 15. He dedicated his early contributions to this tradition-rich genre to his organ teacher and supporter Johann Georg Herzog, who found these to be of such high quality that he offered them to a colleague for publication.Separate edition from Supplementary Volume 3 of the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

The rediscovery of the original manuscripts of Max Reger's works for violin, viola and violoncello op. 131a-d in the Prague Conservatory Library represents a small sensation. These late works for solo strings dating from 1914 and 1915, the last of which appeared only posthumously, were previously known only from their first prints. The three duosop. 131b for two violins were composed within a few days, shortly after Easter 1914; it is particularly in this case that access to Reger's autograph is of great value in terms ofproviding insight into the genesis of the works.

As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends. The posthumously compiled collection of ten smaller organ pieces WoO 25 brings together a series of interesting pieces from the years 1854 to 1896. It includes one of just two chorale settings by Rheinberger, the prelude on “Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden”. With short trios, preludes and fugues in different keys, the collection is particularly suitable for use in worship, but also for teaching. Prelude and Fugue in C BWV is taken from the Eight Short Preludes and Fugues, a collection of works for keyboard that were most likely used as teaching pieces for beginners. There has been back and forth about the attribution of these works, but most scholars agree that they are by Bach, just simplified for his students. Matthew McCrady has beautifully arranged this 4-5 minute work for Brass Quintet and included parts in C and B-flat for the Trumpets.
