Shadings was commissioned for The American Composers Orchestra UnSafe series and premiered at Zankel-Carnegie Hall._x001A_In Laura Schwendinger's Shadings richly scored shimmering music ebbed and swirled in tandem with a series of enigmatic photographs projected above the orchestra. A truly joyful tale is told in this new work from Peter Terry. Several sections in slighly different tempos are tied together with the buoyant and energetic melody. There are excellent dynamic shadings presented throughout as the melody is transferred from section to section.

Well- orchestrated, hard-swinging figures abound in this chart for proficient groups that's highly reminiscent of Coltrane's classic Equinox. Frequent use of triplet arpeggios and effective dynamic shadings add to its appeal. Solo space is included for alto and bari sax, along with an open solo section. Recording courtesy of Summit Records. Duration 7:35.
