Written after William Shakespeare, Ophelie?s death is a piece by Hector Berlioz. For two female voices (Soprano and Contralto) accompanied by a Piano, this piece tells the story of the death of Ophelie, while she was picking some flowers next to a torrential river. Even though the end of the story is sad, the music is highly lyrical resulting from the combination of the two voices, and the Piano part could be played by an upper intermediate player. Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) was a French Romantic composer who made a significant contribution to music. His best-known pieces are his ''Fantastic Symphony'' and his ''Requiem''..

Among the numerous Requiem settings of the 19th century, only very few are scored for male voices. Although several compositions (by, amongst others, Max Reger and Peter Cornelius) are designated 'Requiem', these are usually only single-movement works, not settings of the entire text of the ordinary. To date, only four complete settings for male choir - by Luigi Cherubini, Franz Liszt, Hugo Kaun and Lorenzo Perosare - are known. With the first edition of the Requiem by Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck for solo voices, male choir and organ, a further work is being made available for performance. Rinck, celebrated as the Rhenish Bach and as a worldwide famous composer, wrote it in 1836.

A Requiem for Mr William Lawes is a contemporary work for male voices and viol trio with texts by Thomas Fuller, Antony Wood, and John Jenkins. The music evokes and quotes passages and harmonies from Lawes' consort music; the unresolved dissonances, sometimes verging on atonality, the quirky off-kilter rhythmic structures, and the vocal quality of the lines. A Requiem for Mr William Lawes was first performed on September 7, 2016 by Gallicantus at The Trigonale Festival, Austria. This product is Printed on Demand and may take several weeks to fulfill.

Through works such as Verdi’s Requiem or Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, we know that the great composers of Italian bel canto opera also wrote marvelous sacred music. Yet most of these pieces are rarely performed. This is also true of Gaetano Donizetti’s Messa di Requiem, which he composed as an expression of grief at the early death of Vincenzo Bellini in 1835. Neither performed nor printed during Donizetti’s lifetime, the Requiem is ripe for rediscovery. A rich and highly intense work, it features dramatic choruses with full orchestra, fugues, and a cappella passages that alternate with lengthy cantilenas for the soloists. These solo cantilenas are often scored for three male voices accompanied by low winds to create a dark timbre. The soprano and alto soloists do not themselves sing any solo arias, instead remaining part of the solo ensemble.Carus is offering a critical edition of this editorially challenging work complete with vocal score, choral score, and all orchestral parts.. Score available separately - see item CA.2732200.

Peter Schindler's full-length secular choral work Sonne, Mond und Sterne (Sun, Moon and Stars) narrates a love story based on old texts which are given a new interpretation through these musical settings. Some individual numbers were published in spring, and now more movements with piano accompaniment are available in print and digitally.- choral work of medium difficulty- will appeal to experienced Brahms Requiem singers as well as ambitious chamber or youth choirs with a gospel, pop or jazz background-cross-over between jazz, chanson, and chamber music Peter Schindler about O Ewigkeit:We step on the stage of life, pull the curtains wide open and venture a glance at the eternal course of the stars. A powerful choral tutti sounds, the key note of C held on in the basses emphasizes the steadfastness of eternity, and above this is chromatic movement in the upper voices which produces friction. In the following softer central section, female and male voices sing separately. They sing in characteristic Gregorian style in vivid images of the immeasurable sand in the ocean, of tears and trickles, of the great beginning and the end of the cosmos. The verses from 1625 convey an image of astonishment, of seeking and not least also of comfort. The text functions as a framework, as it is repeated in a shortened form in the last number of Sonne, Mond und Sterne. It encapsulates the many life situations which are sketched and sung about in the staged cantata in metaphysical questions.

He wrote his poem Gedanken uber die Zeit in his early twenties; it was first published in 1634 as an epitaph. All the nuances of the concept of time are artistically contrasted, and the motif Zeit (time) is explored and played with in a dialectical manner. The male voices begin in unison at an andante maestoso tempo, followed by a leisurely progress in homophonic writing in a slightly freer rhythm. A lively middle section follows which leads into the opening motif again in the last section. The third section contains a fugue, and the end is unison once again. And so the words are like a manifesto by the poet.
