Adam Granger self-published the first edition of Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar in 1979. A second edition was published in 1994. Now Mel Bay Publications presents the third edition of the book.
This 236-page book is the most extensive and best-documented collection of fiddle tunes for the flatpicking guitar player in existence, and includes reels, hoedowns, hornpipes, rags, breakdowns, jigs and slip-jigs, presented in Southern, Northern, Irish, Canadian, Texas and Old-time styles.
There are 508 fiddle tunes referenced under 2500 titles and alternate titles. The titles are fully indexed, making the book doubly valuable as a reference book and a source book.
In this new edition, all tunes are typeset, instead of being handwritten as they were in the previous editions, making the tabs easier to read.
The tunes in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are presented in Easytab, a streamlined tablature notation system designed by Adam specifically for fiddle tunes.
The book comes with a link which gives access to mp3 recordings by Adam of all 508 tunes, each played once at a moderate tempo, with rhythm on one channel and lead on the other.
Also included in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are instructions for reading Easytab, descriptions of tune types presented in the book, and primers on traditional flatpicking and rhythm guitar. Additionally, there are sections on timing, ornamentation, technique, and fingering, as well as information on tune sources and a history of the collection.
Mel Bay also offers The Granger Collection, by Bill Nicholson, the same 508 tunes in standard music notation.

This lesson is intended for players who are seeking a greater understanding of how to get beyond basic open chords, or first position, use the full fretboard. We will do so by understanding the concept of a movable shape. The tunes selected will slowly introduce you to a variety of shapes commonly used by the old-time masters to unlock the neck. In addition to learning these examples, I?ll talk about the logic that makes movable shapes work, empowering you to create your own uses for them. You will learn tunes that have become standards in the fingerstyle repertoire by Sam McGee, Big Bill Broonzy and Maybelle Carter. As well, I teach two arrangements I have put together of an old-time fiddle tune and a Jelly Roll Morton piano blues. Titles include: Angeline the Baker, Franklin Blues, Railroad Blues, Saturday Night Rub, Amos Johnson Rag, Victory Rag and Buddy Bolden?s Blues Detailed tab/music PDF file on the DVD. 112 minutes. DVD is region 0, playable worldwide.

The more you play the guitar the better youâ??ll become and the more fun and enjoyment youâ??ll have. When I asked Rev. Gary Davis when and how I should practice on my guitar his answer was clear. He told me to play first thing in the morning and then last thing at night. He said I should keep my guitar out of its case so that I could play it whenever I wanted. The message was to play and enjoy yourself.
This collection of blues, jug band tunes, rags and novelty songs should present you with hours, weeks, months and even years of enjoyment and challenges. The arrangements vary from easy to difficult. Includes access to online audio.
The tunes presented include: Going To Germany, Walk Right In, My Money Never Runs Out, Cocaine Habit Blues, KC Moan, Stealinâ??, Stealinâ??, You May Leave, Mississippi River Waltz, Heâ??s In The Jailhouse Now, Show Me The Way To Go Home, Guitar Stomp, Mississippi Blues, Blues For The Mann, Shine On Harvest Moon, Creole Belles - March and Two Step, The Teddy Bearsâ?? This book presents three of the greatest ragtime blues guitar players from the 1920s-1940s. They all possessed what Rev. Gary Davis called that sportinâ?? right hand. Each could sing the blues or play a dance instrumental. They favored first-position chords but produced incredible textures and rhythms from these easy left-hand fingerings. There are years of exciting fingerpicking challenges in these pages. But what fun it will be once you can play these tunes!

This solo collection presents 19 iconic melodies from the American traditional song book plus 6 modern original compositions by William Bay, president of Mel Bay Publications; all selections have been arranged in tablature for the 5-string banjo in gDGBD tuning by Catalonian multi-instrumentalist and bluegrass specialist, Llu?s G?mez.Any collection of American ballads would be incomplete without settings of the beautiful melodies penned by Stephen Foster, several of which appear here including Beautiful Dreamer, Darling Nellie Gray, I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair, and Hard Times, Come Again No More. Some of these tunes are arranged in uncommon banjo keys, all without retuning the banjo or using a capo. These keys may be challenging at first but will teach you a lot about the banjo fretboard. The authorÃ?s generous preface offers tips on practice, performance and interpretation rarely found in tablature collections such as these, but this book has it all, including online recordings of each arrangement.
