Django wanted to have two rhythm guitars behind him when he soloed to give him a full sound. Then when Grappelli soloed, Django would interject himself between Grappelli and the rhythm guitar section. From this vantage point, he would \'push? Grappelli with a series of well placed shots, shuffles, and turnarounds that would have the effect of driving the group to a greater energy output as the song approached its conclusion. In this DVD, the classic 4-to-the-bar rhythm is broken down into four separate unsable styles. After that, Django\'s syncopated rhythm shots are analyzed and presented by example from a simple backbeat to 2-bar long syncopated strums. My own philosophy is that the rhythm guitar section is the most important component of the Gypsy Jazz group. The rhythm guitar should be in a position to drive and not follow the group. The information contained in this DVD will give you the rhythmic tools to infuse the sound with the energy that this genre of music deserves. Héros de légende s'il en fut, Django Reinhardt le devint dès sa prime jeunesse. Tout d'abord parmi les siens, subjugués par l'éblouissante virtuosité de ce petit prodige du banjo, ensuite auprès des musiciens musettes, d'où sa réputation d'extraordinaire instrumentiste qui gagna comme une traînée de poudre les milieux du jazz, univers plus propre à l'épanouissement de ses ambitions musicales qu'il concrétisa à partir de 1934 (au sein du Quintette du Hot Club de France avec le violoniste Stéphane Grappelli) par d'étonnants chefs-d'?uvre comme Djangology (1935) ou Minor Swing (1937), qui gardent toute leur fraîcheur. Django et sa guitare... Virtuosité d'autant plus légendaire qu'elle dut triompher d'un terrible handicap, le guitariste manouche ayant perdu, comme on le sait, l'usage d'une partie de sa main gauche dans l'incendie de sa roulotte en 1928. La vogue incroyable d'un swing à la française fit parfois écran à la dimension profondément novatrice de son art et à l'intransigeance musicale que Django manifesta toujours, tant dans ses improvisations les plus vertigineuses que dans ses compositions les plus populaires, tel l'universel Nuages (1940). Pour dépasser la légende, les auteurs insistent sur l'aspect purement musical d'une démarche créatrice qui confondit aussi bien Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins et Duke Ellington que Benny Goodman, John Lewis ou Dizzy Gillespie. En commentant avec pertinence chacune des pièces qui jalonnent son parcours, ils appréhendent en son entier l'?uvre immense de ce véritable génie qui fut moins le batteur d'estrades qu'accrédita trop souvent une fascination suspecte pour ses performances instrumentales que le plus important musicien de jazz que le Vieux Continent ait jamais engendré.
