It was commissioned by Banda Municipal de Barcelona (Barcelona's municipal band) and performed for the first time on January 30th 2011 at L'Auditori de Barcelona (auditorium of Barcelona).This concert is divided into three movements. The first, bearing the name of Preludi (Prelude), is slow and mysterious, with two alternating subject matters flowing gently. It is only towards the end that a rapid cadence of the piano leads to an orchestral tutti which will gradually fade within the general atmosphere.The second movement is a Scherzo-Cadenza, always in a bar of 6/8, based on triplets and twangs but also tied at the most expressive moments. The piano and the wind and percussion instruments embark in a contrapuntal dialogue in which a burlesque character alternates with forceful moments. The movement ends subtly, with a long scale flowing from a low to a high pitch.A cadence of the piano serves as a liaison with the third movement, an Allegro molto, the longest and most complex of the whole concert. This movement is clearly virtuosic and it consists of three main subject matters which alternate and blend. The atmosphere is lively and unmistakably burlesque, although there are three thoughtful moments in which it becomes mysterious. The coda is fast, bright and clearly conclusive.

Eina r Englund’s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1985) is beyond dispute one of his greatest works. Its finest attributes are its rich melodic invention, colourful instrumentation and immediate message. Add to these its rewarding solo part, and the result is truly one of his best concertos – and works. He himself did not hesitate to regard it as such. It was premiered in Helsinki on September 16, 1985, having been completed at Ljugarn on the Swedish island of Gotland at the end of June. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Leif Segerstam, and the soloist was the concerto’s dedicatee, Mikael Helasvuo. The Flute Concerto opens with a Ritornello in which the flute's playful, dance-like passages make sharp contrast with the orchestra's heroic stance. In the mellow Canzona which follows, the flute plays rhapsodically over repetitive orchestral figures. The work's action-packed finale hints at parody in its military march-like opening, but also gives rein to the lyricism already familiar from the second movement. Duet s are always popular, and these seventeen, written for small pianists, are very easy but nevertheless entertaining both to hear and to play. Adam Carse (1878-1958) was a master of composition and arranging for a number of instruments for young people and A Little Concert is an ideal entre into this oeuvre. The use of French is not without reason since titles include 'Do Do, L'enfant Do!', 'Les Cloches', and 'Dans les Gardes Francaises'. Among the other works are 'Folk Song', 'Toy Soldiers', 'Doll's Waltz' and 'Over the Water'. The boy depicted on the cover is inviting the animals to the concert since 'Little Bo-Peep', (the tenth work in the volume), has evidently lost her sheep!

English comments: Concertino for violin and string orchestra was composed in 1993. It is a pleasant score with a slightly virtuosic touch written with the idea of creating a relaxed atmosphere in which the soloist and the orchestra can display their technique and expressive capabilities. It is a work, similar in lenght to baroque concertos, and is divided into three movements, folowing the conventional form.: two fast movements around a slow one. Te first two movements -Allegro burlesco and Adagio cantabile- follow the ABA pattern. The third starts with a -cadenza- by the soloist which includes thematic material from the previous slow movement linking straight up to the -Presto- which uses as its main idea a more forceful version of the opening melodic sketch of the -Allegro burlesco- converted into three time. The work was specially creatied for the violinist Gerard Claret and the Orquestra de Cambra Nacional d'Andorra. Es una obra de duracion similar a la de los conciertos del barroco y dividida en sus tres tipicos movimientos. Dos rapidos enmarcando uno lento.
