Johann Joachim Quantz's On Playing the Flute has long been recognized as one of the primary sources of information about eighteenth-century performance practice. American composer-bassist Armand Russell has created a wealth of music for double bass over the past fifty years and more recently has arranged a tasteful number of works for the instrument. This four movement sonata (Adagio Allegro Largo Presto) by Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773) offers a new and accessible transcription for the good intermediate bassist who is confident in low thumb position. Only available in orchestral tuning there are musical and technical challenges in equal measure and much to enjoy for performers and audiences alike. Sonata in G major is also available in two editions for double bass (or cello) trio andstring orchestra. The accompaniment is playable by piano or harpsichord and the limited range of dynamics allows each performer freedom to create their own unique performance and interpretation.

A collection of the Flute Solos (no accompaniment) from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantatas Passions and Oratorios compiled and edited by Julius Baker as a Great Performers Edition. These solos would have been performed by the famous flautist and composer of Bach's time: Johann Joachim Quantz. A good edition for any flautist interested in the fascinating music of this time.

The Baroque flautist and composer Quantz not only wrote at least 20 Flute concertos but he was also responsible for many innovations in Flute design including the addition of keys to improve intonation. This edition contains apreface by Frances Blaisdell who edited the piece and dedicated it to George Barrere her own teacher who realised the cadenzas for this work.

6 Sonatas-J. J. Quantz wrote his Fantasias and Caprices for his Flute student Frederick the Great. The well-known Recorder teacher Gudrun Heyens (Fun and Games with the Recorder) has combined the best pieces of this collection into cycles resulting in larger units and rewarding concert pieces.
