August lebe lebe König from Cantata 207a-A Festive Tribute (?Hommage festif?...(+)

The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto in F minor BWV 1056 is the fifth of the harpsichord concertos contained in the autograph score that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. / Clavecin

Was mir behagt ist nur die muntre Jagd BWV 208Congratulatory Cantata for the Birthday of Duke Christian of Saxony-Weissenfels and of Duke Ernst August of Saxony-WeimarThe hunting cantata the earliest secular cantata of Bach's which has come down to us was performed for the birthday of Duke Christian of Saxony-Weissenfels (23February) - according to most recent research very probably in the year 1713. It was later performed again for the birthday of Duke Ernst August of Saxony-Weimar (the co-regent of Duke Wilhelm Ernst).Bach's score employs taut musical forms; noteworthy - and entirely characteristic ofBach's early style - is the dominant role of the continuo in recitatives and arias. The St. John Passion was first performed in Leipzig on Good Friday of 1724. Written three years before the St. Matthew Passion it was a work Bach revised during the rest of his life in fact he did not leave us a definitive version either in print or fair copy. The sources give evidence of four different versions used at four performances - 1724 1725 around 1730 and during the last years of Bach's life. They often contain two or more readings for the same passage or even different movements that on different occasions occupied the same place in the work.Barenreiter's edition uses the final version IV as its basis with alternativemovements and readings contained in the appendices. All of Bach’s six authenticated motets were written between 1723 and 1727 for St Thomas’ Church Leipzig where Bach was appointed as director of music in 1723. During this period Bach composed most of his cantatas and it seems likely that for ordinary Sunday services he used existing motets from the seventeenth century tradition reserving his own motet compositions for special occasions. Four of his six motets were written for the funeral services of prominent members of the St Thomas’ congregation. Jesu Meine Freude (BWV 227) the longest most musically complex and earliest of the six was written in1723 for the funeral of Johanna Maria Käsin the wife of Leipzig’s postmaster. Jesu Meine Freude BWV 227 is a beautifully constructed motet for five-part mixed choir by J.S. Bach. This Urtext edition provides you with a clear and accurate realisation of the composer’s original intentions and includes thoroughly detailed editorial markings and suggestions as edited by Konrad Ameln. Cantata for Easter Tuesday-Ein Herz dass seinen Jesum lebend weiss BWV 134  Cantata for Easter Tuesday (third version).  Cantata  BWV 134 belongs to those works in which we can follow particularly  clearly Bach's custom of continually altering and improving his works  from performance to performance.  Although this cantata in the  course of its history became a valuable even a particularly festal  church cantata it does not disown its secular origin.  The complete  absence of blblical words and chorale is striking. One of the most gripping solo parts (following the pattern recitative aria recitative aria) is the bass recitative on the words of the Revelation with its highly expressive declamation of the vocal line and the naive graphicness of the pounding string accompaniment.Equally captivating is the following soprano aria which 'opens its heart' upon the Saviour's 'knocking' in amelody full of the cheerful tidings of Advent. The cantata ends brilliantly with a lovely figurative chorale movement enhanced by the interplay of a lively bustling Violin part which ultimately soars upward to breathtaking heights.Urtext of the New Bach EditionPerformance material (BA10061) vocal score (BA10061-90) & study score format 22.5 x 16cm (TP1061) available for sale.

All of Bach?s six authenticated motets were written between 1723 and 1727 for St Thomas? Church Leipzig where Bach was appointed as director of music in 1723. During this period Bach composed most of his cantatas and it seems likely that for ordinary Sunday services he used existing motets from the seventeenth century tradition reserving his own motet compositions for special occasions.Four of his six motets were written for the funeral services of prominent members of the St Thomas? congregation. Jesu Meine Freude (BWV 227) the longest most musically complex and earliest of the six was written in 1723 for the funeralof Johanna Maria Käsin the wife of Leipzig?s postmaster.Jesu Meine Freude BWV 227 is a beautifully constructed motet for five-part mixed choir by J.S. Bach. This Urtext edition provides you with a clear and accurate realisation of the composer?s original intentions and includes thoroughly detailed editorial markings and suggestions as edited by Konrad Ameln.Urtext of the New Bach EditionPerformance material and choral score (BA5132) available for saleComplete edition of the 6 Motets Vocal score with Piano reduction (BA5193-90) choral score (BA5193)
