First performed in 1950 at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia The Consul was a phenomenally successful opera dealing with 20th century bureaucracy and socio-political issues. It is set in a totalitarian state in which John Sorel is a political dissident fighting for a democratic government. The secret police force him to leave the country and Magda his wife must obtain a visa to leave the country and join him. During the ensuing months Magda's baby and mother-in-law die and then she learns that her husband is coming home to free her despite the fact that he will be captured on his return. The Consul is a powerful and thought-provokingmusical drama in three acts by Gian-Carlo Menotti. This is the Revised Schirmer 2000 Edition of the Vocal Score with a Piano reduction by Thomas Schipper.

Long neglected and misunderstood 'Cosi Fan Tutte' (Thus Do All Women) emerged from obscurity in the twentieth century and has come to be regarded as among Mozart's finest works. The Libretto is by Lorenzo da Ponte and tells of two friends Ferrando and Guglielmo who wager with Don Alfonso that their lovers Fiordiligi and Dorabella will remain constant in their absence. To prove the point they depart under false pretences and return as 'Albanians' to try to woo the women away. Each of the six characters receives an equally insightful musical portrayal for example Fiordiligi transcends her role as the victim of cruel manipulation revealing a complex personality that issincere capable of growth and inarguably sympathetic. In contrast Guglielmo never progresses beyond concern for his own ego and interests; his music therefore remains within the stock traditions of opera buffa. The ambigous nature of the ending (who actually loves whom?) can be seen as appropriate given the emotional issues aired during the drama. This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score with an English version by Ruth and Thomas Martin.

Mozart's 'The Marriage Of Figaro' was based on Beaumarchais' politically radical play - the second of the trilogy which begun with 'The Barber Of Seville' - later of course adapted into an opera by Rossini. As in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' 'The Marriage of Figaro' depicted the aristocracy as buffoons controlled and outwitted by their cunning servants. This time Figaro and Susanna are due to wed but must first outwit the Count who is determined to exercise a master's ancient right to deflower the bride of his servant. This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score with an English translation by Ruth and Thomas Martin and an essay by Nathan Broder.

John Corigliano (b. 1938) is an American composer. The Poem In October was commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and first performed in 1970. Taking its text from a 1944 work by the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas it was later arranged for chamber orchestra by the composer as part of his Dylan Thomas Trilogy. It is cast in Rondo form with instrumental interludes interweaved with the vocal verses. While the metre and rhythms are irregular the melody line is highly lyrical reflecting the rich imagery of the text. It has been arranged for solo Tenor with Piano accompaniment.

The Anthology Of Modern French Song is a fantastic collection of thirty-nine songs for Low Voice with Piano Accompaniment. These are all compositions by French writers and composers faithfully edited by Max Spicker with English translations. First published in 1912 the content is beautiful expressive and rich typical of French songs from this period. It is important to note that though the title may cite modern French songs it was originally published at the start of the 20th century and therefore Anthology of Romantic French Song might be a more accurate description of the contents!
